200. omg

A.  i swear that there is some physchotic connection between music teachers & jolly ranchers, ours gives us them for helping to organize or clean the room.

B.  i have to go write that damn report now, so this letter's going 2 b short

C.  there was a scottish highland games in livermore {my boring city} this weekend that rocked endlessly, i got a lot of unimportant, albiet fun stuff done.  There was also a street party that had several totally awesome bands at it on sasturday night.

199. 42 blowing in the wind.

Mostly_Harmless is good- let's just go with that.

Let's start the letter in the time-honored tradition of:

"Dear Muse,

Print this letter or we'll sic our trained army of pink bunny emoticons on the world, the editors, the tenrecs, and the rest of society." and every few lines put in a plug for a website located at www.musefanpage.com. Which, by the way, is a very nice website - neat, easy to navigate, pretty, and actually prints our letters.

I was thinking the other day (always dangerous), and I realized that six times nine isn't the answer to the universe and everything- the question got distorted in Arthur Dent's brain, since he wasn't an original inhabitant of Earth, so the question is probably something more like, "what is six times eight? 42." or something.

The online rhyming dictionary didn't include "belly"??!?!

I go to practice violin, which I have been doing a whole lot lately (on my last practice record [we're done with them for the year! Yes!!! {except that we get jolly ranchers for turning them in, yay, hard candy}] last week I practiced 1170 minutes- I don't know where I get that much time)

Lizzie

I think "belly" was the word I wrote in the "find rhymes" slot of the search form. That's why it didn't appear among the rhymes. "Kokopelli" himself was the glaring omission. The list in the four-syllable section went straight from "giacomelli, giovanelli, iannelli" to "locatelli, lucarelli, mancinelli" with nary a "k" in sight. —WM

198. a limerick i didn't write

when i was in my mom's choir, we used to sing this as a round:

there was a old man from perth
who was born on the day of his birth
he was married, they say
on his wife's wedding day
and he died on his last day on earth

let's write the whole entire letter in limerick form

i suppose morbid knos this, but i didn't:
there's a star {like a large hydrogen cosmic body kind of star} called lalandae, although it might b lalande, & i just read it wrong

Someone stole my future evolution issue of Muse..... Grr... I had brought it is for my bio teacher to look at and she looked at it and then put it on the desk and then it disapeared! Grr....

196. Contrary to Popular Opinion, The Rain in Spain Stays Mainly in the Hills
Flanders and Swann

I approve of Plan Mostly_Harmless. Good luck on the 10-hour rehearsal, Duncan.

There once was a woman from Ryde,
Who ate 90 apples and died.
The apples fermented
Inside the lamented
And made cider insider 'er inside.

There was a young man from Australia,
Who painted his foot like a dahlia.
A penny a look
Was all by the book
But sixpence a smell was a failure.

There once was a gardener from Leeds
Who swallowed a packet of seeds.
A big yellow rose
Grew out of his nose
And his beard was a tangle of weeds.

"How does an elephant hide in a tree?"
I asked of my friend, Iguana.
"She paints herself yellow," he calmly replied
"And pretends to be a banana."

There once was a Queen Julietaini
Who most people thought was crazy.
"No way," she replied,
With the greatest of pride,
"I work very hard: I'm not lazy. "

I wrote the last limerick myself. I think it's very good. Oh, and by the way, I have a suggestion about how to start off the letter. What about

"Dear Muse,"? And then we could end with "Insanely, The Fans Mobbing the Gaboomba."

Codenames?

Codenames?!?!?!

OOOOO!  OOOOoooooOOOOOOoooooOOOOOoooooOOOOO!!!!! I WANNA BE AGENT MOTHMAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It'll be all, like, "Agent Mothman to Huggy Bear, we have a code green, all systems go, prepare to fire, do you copy?"   "Roger that, Agent Mothman, the missles are ready for launching, I'm gonna refer you over to Bloaty The Pig, over and out?" "Bloaty The Pig to Agent Mothman, subject Bo Didley is on the move. Have you got 'er locked?" "Lock, stock, and barrel. Ten-four, Bloaty The Pig, let's move out."

That was so magical.

-Morbid

P.S. We have laptops in Algebra.  I named mine Milton and I'll admit I occasionally sneak on here. Morbid.  Bad.  Bad little nerd girl.

194. Mostly Harmless...

... is an awesome name!

Calo anor na ven,

^_^Elassë~Adæl^_^

193.The Rain in Spain Stays Mainly in the Plain

I say we use Mostly_Harmless as our plan’s official name.

Cel --- ugh!  I had to do a report on effects of the Civil War earlier thin year, but it was only five or six pages.

Here’s my special limerick:

There once was a girl named Kay
            She went outside to play
            Must’ve ran out of luck
She got hit by a truck
And she hasn’t been the same to this day

I’m off to a ten hour rehearsal (My Fair Lady)

Woohoo.

---Duncan_Quagmire, the person who is too lazy to think of anything exciting to write here.

"Mostly Harmless." I like the sound of that. —WM

192. Hey! Take me to your readers...

A LETTER FROM THE NONEXISTENT BUT STILL COOL PALACE OF KIADOR

Regarding Weirdness, But Then Again, What Isn't Here?

I totally second the vote for Project World Domination (PWD Pies Work Deliciously) Or, of course, Rule_The_Earth, RTE, or Read To Everybody. Or we could just call it supercagifragilisticexpealidocious. Sigh. My fingers hurt.

That aside, I must say rim hennaid to D_Quaggers for correcting me about Zaphod B, condolences to Celadon-I mean Celebrian-about her essay, and I heart Lizzie's lovely, linear limerick.  Incidentally, my friend Bumbles's limerick starts out the same way.

Well, I've got to go, so I am working on the MM (mob starts) and it's closer to being done (mob sighs) so don't worry. (mob sleeps) Love, peace, kudos and Nutella on a triple to everybody,

There once was a Muse, Kokopelli,
Who used to go into a deli,
And order some pies,
Made with key lime surprise,
And throw them at people named Nelly.

-Lizzie

man, it's hard to find things that rhyme with Kokopelli.

Cruelly hard. Here's all one online rhyming dictionary had to offer, apart from a bunch of Italian names and other obscure words (including Nelly). Add capital letters as needed: delhi, deli, ellie, jelly, kelley, kelli, kelly, shelley, shelly, smelly, tele, telly, allele, comb jelly, grape jelly, new delhi, old delhi, apple jelly, royal jelly, torricelli, machiavelli, mineral jelly, petroleum jelly, evangelista torricelli . —WM

189. If all the world's a stage, we want better lighting...

WM --- If we write a letter, of course we’ll mention the Fan Page.  But you may want to keep quiet about the whole world domination thing for now.  People never seem to go for that type of thing.  Perhaps we should come up with a secret code name of sorts for our plans for world conquest.  Any ideas?

---D_Q, the <insert adjective here>

The plans are right there in black and white on the FAQ page. The idea was that being absolutely open about what we're up to will lure Them All into a sense of false security. But code names could be useful, too. As the man said, any ideas? —WM

187. Oy with the poodles already!

Here’s an idea --- why don’t all of us here at the GABOOMBA put our heads together and write a letter to Muse?

---Duncan_Quagmire, the busy

P.S.  Has everyone seen the new Narnia trailer yet?

If you do write a letter, please put in a plug for the Fan Page. It's been ages since D.L. printed our URL in the magazine, and the lack of recognition is seriously delaying our plans for world conquest. Thanks. —WM

Another bunny one that I've seen on people's AIM info, etc is:

Although it's hard to get it to align properly..

Happy (late? early? on time?) birthday, E~A!

Ice cream is good stuff. I like chocolate.. and mint.. and the kind that has the girl scout cookies in it.. and most other kinds..

Talking about petitions, http://www.baselinemag.com/print_article2/0,2533,a=138516,00.asp shows some ways an online campaign could be run... http://www.ktoo.org/gavel/guide/classGuide5-1.htm I think shows how you get on a ballot... I think it changes for all 50 states.

Apparently some people have spotted some ivory-billed woodpeckers!! I think it was in Arkansas... The problem with ivory-billed is that people tend to see pileated woodpeckers and think that "ooh, it's an ivory-billed", since there is a tendency to want to see them, but I think that they are pretty sure that it is an ivory-billed this time..

Why did the bunnies become hot pink in the first place? Why not neon blue bunnies? Is there even such a color as neon blue?

Lizzie

42. Happy b-day, E~A!

42. WAY too many acronyms here, i.e. TOPFOT, E~A, D_Q, RMP, etc.

42. Why would we send the petition to the White House?  I don’t think they’re in charge of who’s on the ballot…

42. Anyone here know who does that?

42. If you don’t, I can just look it up someplace.

-TOPFOT

PS 42 I looked up adoption on the neopets page, and there is no way to adopt unless you abandon MusePet_Chad at the shelter and wait for someone to pick him up.  Unfortunately, there’s no way to be able to tell who got your neopet afterwards, and there is no way to rig it so only one person can get him, so even if one of us would try to get him, it wouldn’t be 100% guaranteed.

If we timed the dropoff/pickup right, I think we could be reasonably confident that Chad would wind up in the right hands. I'm willing to give it a try. He was in good shape the last time I checked, but that was last week. —WM

176.

Yea, verily and forsooth, Elassë-Adæl. It is a good investment. Here I present the Guide to Getting A Nigel Molesworth Compleet Set:

73. Find a Borders bookstore. Bike, walk, or use public transportation to save the environment.

2. March into bookstore. Ask person at counter if he or she can find you Molesworth by Geoffrey Willans and Ronald Searle. Explain that a friend of yours purchased a copy at a Borders bookstore. If the person says no, ask even more nicely if there might possibly be a chance the Borders could get one from another store. There usually is.

42. If 2. does not work, my advice is to find a used or quaint book store out somewhere. Or resort to Amazon.

A trip to Madagascar is in order. I have always wanted to go to Africa.  Plus there are some cool little islands around Madagascar that look like they will be fun to visit.

Lizzie, I think the no-unnatural-hair-colours rule is v. stupid. My school is quite lenient, but there is still only hats on Friday, no skateboards, no pets, and-gasp!-no political campaign stickers excepting election days!!!!!!!!!!!! AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!

Welcome Parmandiriel! Hello random-person-with-no-name-or-identity.

luv to all concerned, and especially tenrecs and p.penguins,

174. Hmm..

Kokopelli seems to have been running wild on the site, changing message colors.. Therefore, I will write in green from now on, if I can figure out how to change it to that without messing up all my e-mail, which I can't, so... eh, never mind.

Maybe Pwt'll finally give up on catching Crraw? Wait... it says something we've been waiting to see.. so maybe something happens to him/her/it/themuseofchasingcrows? I don't know, I haven't gotten my magazine yet..

Lizzie who has decided to not write in various colors, because she is too lazy to figure out how to, but will instead ponder what color to dye her hair when school finally gets out and she is free of the stupid rule that says "no unnatural hair colors", even though green is a very natural hair color (think sloths- they have greenish fur from the things growing in their hair)...

173. Random Meeces

42. Umm… is it safe 4 me 2 say that Celebriän and I already know u, “person with no identity”?  Because I think u r the Random Moose Person.

42.        Qu’est-ce que c’est “Nigel Molesworth”??

42.        I always pronounce Pwt as if I were saying “put” and Aeiou as, well, A-E-I-O-U.

42.        Welcome, Parmandriel.

42.        How does one go about adopting Neopets if they are not at the pound?

42.        Whatever happened to the links to Morbid and Juliette’s sites???  I can’t find them anywhere!

42.        We should all go 2 Madagascar 2 save the tenrecs.  That would be a cool field trip!

42.        In the new issue they say Pwt’s going to do something we’ve been waiting 4 him 2 do 4 years…  What do u think that will be???

-TOPFOT

Morbid started getting flamed—harmlessly, but I decided that the links violated the Fan Page's privacy protection policy. I don't know how to adopt Neopets, but I wish someone would find out and rescue Musepet_Chad from my immiserating ministrations. —WM

172. wobbly green parts

Last week I bought a copy of The Amazing Maurice and His Educated Rodents (excerpted in the July/August 2002 issue) (also known as the cat issue)!!!!! It's really really good. Even though I still have no idea what the wobbly green bit you're not supposed to eat is, though. Hey, I never said I was good at rat anatomy..

ooh! Yay! I made the HG2Gab!!! Thank you! My life now has a purpose!

Actually, it still doesn't, but hey..

You can get the (a) Nigel Molesworth book at amazon.co.uk. It's currently at spot no. 5,473 in the sales ranks...

Quote to "a new person who has no identity":
"There is no me. I do not exist. There used to be a me but I had it surgically removed."
- Peter Sellers, Muppet Show, season 2, episode 43, while doing "a grand impersonation of her late majesty Queen Victoria, whilst on vacation at Bognor Regis in the year 1888," despite the fact he couldn't remember what she looked like, and playing trained chickens. Great episode. You have to love the Muppet Show.

Hmm.. Muse_song3 (the one by D_Q) is called "a magazine called muse" but titled Oh, Better Far to Throw a Pie..

2021 will be the 42 anniversary of HG2Galaxy- only 16 more years!

You can get The Compleet Molesworth at Amazon U.K., too. It'll cost you, though . —WM

168. Muse pronunciation...

I say Pwt like that too, Lizzie- but I've alway's mashed the vowels together on Aeiou, so it's sounds like I've chopped the "H" off of "Hey, you".

As well, I came to the conclusion of Pwt's masculinity on the same quote. They refer to Pwt as a guy once more in that issue, but I can't remember where...
(fishes through bookcase)

Morbid, again.

167. yay

I finally got a chance to peruse the new issue thoroughly (I got it on Tuesday.. busy week) (at least I think I got in on Tuesday. Who actually remembers that far back?)! I really really like the siege machines of myth and legend by Roland Harvey. Especially the giant chicken. And the tree at the bottom of where the two pages join. And the "dungeon viewing times". and the little guys wearing the wicker siege-basket thingys and looking like little haystacks. And the clothesline. And the entire thing. Minor quibble though: shouldn't Little Red Riding Hood's House be Little Red Riding Hood's Grandmother's House?

Out of curiosity, how do you guys pronounce Aeiou and Pwt? For some reason, I say Aeiou ahy-ee-eye-oh-you but I say Pwt Phwit, or something like that (rhymes with twit) (with the p pronounced as a p, not as a f). And while I'm on this topic, I think that Pwt's a boy- that one comic with "his running has slowed, his nose needs to be blowed" and if Larry Gonick doesn't know what Pwt is, who does?

And I also like the first page Reading Rover thingamajig. Wasn't that picture in another issue also- I forget which one? And how do dogs hold cards in their hand-paws, much less their feet-paws?

We have some moonflower vine seeds that we wanted to plant, and the package said to soak them overnight and so I put them in a container with water, and some of them sank to the bottom and others didn't- why did only some do that? Any idea?

Why is spell-check taking such a long time? Why am I running spell-check in the first place?

Lizzie

Larry calls Pwt "he" in Attack of the Smart Pies, too. Still, he just draws the Muses; I suppose it's possible that he could be mistaken. As for the moonflower seeds, my guess is that your packet contained seeds from two batches, one of which had dried out more than the other. The dry ones floated, and the damp ones sank. Or maybe the damp ones started out plumper and held on to their moisture better. I'd have used a magnifying glass to see whether the ones that floated looked different from the ones that sank. —WM

166. oops

i should have done the "sit in front of famous place reading muse" thing in japan ! {except my camera was acting rather strange, so who knows, maybe it wouldn't have worked} i'll try 2 do it this summer when i'm in Europe. i have decided 2 take Lizzie's approach 2 life & live in a state of denial; it makes things so much easier.

165. France!

Okay, granted, I'll give you the "genius, deified hero" etc stuff, and he might be kind of demonstrative, but he's definitely not an operating system, so I don't see where you're getting this.. [all definitions from dictionary.com, with slight editing on the part of me, Lizzie, to make them more e-mail friendly: ie, getting rid of excessive blanks, pronunciation keys, etc]

d. I'll be in the Bay Area.

e. I'd take the Neopet, but I don't play neopets, sorry.

f. I like binary, but I was wondering the other day- how would you say, for instance, 4.5 in binary? 100.101 ? Is it even possible?

g. and, Andrew R. , what do you have against demons? When has an operating system done anything to you?

h. and what are you doing here anyway? Got bored with Morbid's site?

i. E~A - have you seen Hard Day's Night (the movie that the "Arthur" quote [by George Harrison] came from)? It's pretty good- there's a script at

I, personally, prefer Help!, but they're both good. As is Yellow Submarine. I haven't seen Magical Mystery Tour. off off and away riding into the sunset (which by the way is kind of annoying because the driver can't see where they're going and so you have to turn off the music so they can concentrate and all this time there's this glare from the road shining into your eyes)

Lizzie

f. 4.5 (base 10) = 100.1 (base 2, i.e., binary). —WM

162. OMFG

*Strongly disapproves of Message 161*

—Celebriän

161. AUGHHHHHHHH!!!

—Andrew R.

Well, technically he's a cartoon character. But don't worry: he may not face much opposition at the moment, but between now and 2008 somebody is bound to turn up to give him a run for his money. —WM

157. ah, the joys of waking up and finding it's an hour later than you thought it was

!. Now I know why I couldn't figure out who Milton Rupines was! I just found that issue under my history spiral from 7th grade that I had vowed never to look at again! I wonder how it got there..

@. That was a truly horrible class. Boring, the teacher was mean, all we did was color in the stupid spirals and get graded on it.. I like history, but I hated that class.

#. This summer I will be in California...

$. Next year I will be taking geometry pre-ap, english pre-ap, spanish 2, and hopefully latin 1 if I manage to test out of world history..

%. how long is the Museical delayed for? If you still need people to be tenrecs, can I be one?

^. Ack, my computer doesn't change the time all by itself. That's no fun.

&. Also, does anyone know how to do accents on Linux, which I am running?

*. Have fun in France, E~A!

(. I don't know- you kind of have to admire Milton Rupines for having the chutzpah it takes to admit to hating LOTR in a magazine full of LOTR worshippers.. !).

So if we were still on Elizabethan spelling, would we still have those dreaded spelling tests?

Lizzie, where the future is being made today.

156. LOTR ROCKS!

Lord of the Rings rocks! milton rupines is stupid!

--Daniel F.

155. see spot run. see spot run into a briar bush. laugh in spot's face.

A. It is I, Queen Julietaini the Flamablamablous of Kiador.

B. Elizabethan spelling WAS "devil-may-care-but-what-the-hey"

C. I am really sorry about being the bearer of bad news, but the Muse Musical is delayed. Why? Oh, maybe because I have enough work for wirnayam twenty people and no employees. Just me. C'est la vie.

D. Welcome, Lizzie!

E. Celebriän, now that you have learned to make accents on a Macintosh computer {my rival}, would you share your knowledge?

F. is not for Fahrenheit.

G. Peace to you all. Please don't spear me for the delay.

QUEEN JULIETAINI OF KIADOR, MIZDICT THE GREAT AND HEY KID MOVE

154. i am going to KILL milton rupines 4 this

1. milton rupines has popped up on morbid's site recentley, & appears 2 b in league w/ AJR

10. unfortunately there isn't a easy way 2 kill people over the computer

11.  the ithilien is really beautiful, but nicely wild @ the same time, it's given to Eowyn & Faramir after the war of the ring, and the end of the 3rd age. it's where my house {actually, it's a fleet} is , but i wander all over middle earth. :)

100.  there r 10 types of pplz in the world - those who understand binary & those who do not

101.  Elvis is scary, & if i here 1 more return of the king joke involving him, i'm going 2 scream

10000. i finally learned how 2 make accents on a mac, so i can spell my name{the 1 i use here ne way}

Namárië,

Celebriän

1. You can't be sure it's the real Milton R. Somebody else may be using his name. Online, who knows?
1111. The "dh" sound of edh is pronounced like the "th" in "this," not like the "th" in "thick." It's like the difference between z and s, or between v and f. At least, that's the system nowadays. People were more devil-may-care about their spelling 800-odd years ago, we hear.
—WM

153. also..

Who is Milton Rupines? I never figured that out..

Lizzie

In the Muse Mail section of the May/June 2004 issue, a reader complained about the December 2003 issue. "When I saw an issue devoted entirely to Lord of the Rings, I mentally puked," he (or she) wrote. "The Lord of the Rings movies STINK!" The reader signed the letter Milton Rupines—an anagram of his/her real name, he/she said. Musers have been arguing about it ever since. —WM

152. tired

A. why does our English teacher make us do research on notecards (and we had to have 300 of them!and we only use one side! I mean, that's a major waste of paper! You could fit that amount into less than 30 sheets of paper, which could be recycled!) ?

B. At least the student teacher isn't teaching that class anymore.. she taught a unit on the Civil War and actually said that the Dred Scott decision was in Dred Scott's favor, and she kept making grammatical mistakes on papers and tests (she would spell "a part" [as in "an engine is a part of a car"] "apart").. I mean, that's pretty bad for an English teacher.

C. Does anyone play an instrument? I play violin, and can get around on various other instruments with various amounts of competence.

D. I like the LOTR books, and haven't seen the movie(s)..

E. it's always very tempting for me to make an Elvish/Elvis pun, even though I really don't like Elvis (we had to play an arrangement of his stuff for All-Region Orchestra and I hated it and I hated the original songs)

Lizzie.

151. Salut tout le monde!

A. I take algebra II/trig and I took french III last semester. I will be taking french IV next year (my sophomore year)

B. I live in Il[dh]rin near the city of Aeryneä. My house is on a cliff near a waterfall and there are tunnels from the basement of my house that lead through the cliff. There is even one that leads straight to the palace/school in the middle of Aeryneä! (ihlth-rin) (ehr-in-ay-ah)

C. Does anyone here read books by Mercedes Lackey? She is a good fantasy author. If you would like to read her books I would recomend that you start with Arrows of the Queen.

D. I will be in France over my spring break from April 2-8th.

Calo anor na ven,

^_^Elassë~Adæl^_^

That "[dh]" is supposed to be a letter edh, but edh is hard to make with my computer. In The Lord of the Rings, Ithilien is a region east of Gondor but west of Mordor. —WM

Calo Anor Na Ven,

Celebriän

148. Oy.

1.School days= tons of homework. tons of homework= not much time.

2.Inari is this sushi thingy. It's sweet, vegetarian, and really good. Especially in soy sauce.

3. Dark side of the moon thingy- it's an album by Pink Floyd. If you turn off the Wizard of Oz (original version) soundtrack, and start the album playing when the lion roars for the third time (or the second lion third time, if you have the reprint) and have the cd player on album repeat, it should line up with the action. I haven't tried it..

5. I live in a state of denial..

6. Not really, but that line's too good to be passed up.

E. where are u from Lizzie ? {both imaginary & reality}

Ic beon na fisc! - guess what language that is????

Paul- Morrowind looks cool! When are you going to write another article for Muse? Your other articles were enthralling.

Happy Easter/Purim/Equinox/other to all!

Calo anor na ven,

-TOPFOT

I wrote a haiku (sort of):

Ruler of cosmos,
O great magazine named Muse,
I bow down to you.

—Lizzie!!

Aw, Lizzie, you don't
Have to bow. But we're glad you
Like the magazine.

F. Inari is really really really
