Oh, Better Far to Throw a Pie

contributed by Juliette R., age 10

Inspired by the Pirate King's song "Oh, Better Far to Live and Die" from Gilbert and Sullivan's operetta Pirates of Penzance.

To be sung reading, a Muse-Ical Production in Kokonino County, or anytime you darn well feel like it. Keep a copy next to your Muse collection. Original lyrics, may be tweaked at your own expense. Enjoy!

For A Muse-Ical Production: Editor is conducting. The chorus is the nonactive Muses or readers.

For readers: Sing the part of your favorite Muse. If Muse is Aeiou, please sing Crraw's part or ask for me to make a sub part for Crraw.

Kokopelli:
Oh, better far to throw a pie,
Into a Muse's indignant eye,
Than to play a bookish, timid part,
With a Muse's head and a Muse's heart!
Reading that issue, that one too?
Then come and join our league, yes you,
For many a reader have met I,
And thrown a key lime in their eye!
For I am a joyful Muse, 'tis true,
And it is, it is a glorious thing to
Be a joyful Muse!

Chorus:
It is! Hurrah for the joyful Muses!
Hurrah for the joyful Muses!

Bo:
When you sally forth to read my page,
Help yourself in a royal way,
For royal are you in our fray,
And respected in every way!
We all are pleasant, smart, and true,
And never will leave you blue,
Though you might start off non-smart,
You'll feel a great easing in your heart!
For I am a great and glorious Muse,
And it is, it is, a great and glorious thing,
To be a joyful Muse!

Chorus regular

Urania:
We try to a-Muse,
And blow up a fuse,
But sometimes we bomb it, true.
If the planets align,
Then read this mag of mine,
And please do not spill any wine,
For liquid will damage,
My beautiful prowess,
And don't forget
Your under-age ness!
For I am a finely dressed Muse,
And it is, it is, a finely dressed thing.
To be a joyful Muse!

Chorus regular

Feather:
Oh dirty work,
Have we done,
And soiled out hands
In the fun!
I'm speaking of the issue hence,
Oh Feb/March 04
With soil most dense!
Gardening is my best trait,
With a green thumb and
A doughnut weight!
For I am a strange and genial Muse,
And it is, it is, a genial thing,
To be a joyful Muse!

Chorus regular

Crraw:
The Muse of poetry am I,
The one who always, always tries,
To get in a line or two,
And always to avoid you!
Oh Pwt, thou who always seek
To damage my beautiful beak
Try to keep your large, uncomfortable net,
Away ere the sun does set!
For I am a poetic, persecuted Muse,
And it sometimes is not a great thing,
To be a persecuted Muse!

Chorus:
It is not!
Naught for the persecuted Muse!
What does naught mean?

Mimi:
We bicker and quarrel
And argue a ton,
We hide in the margins too.
So read out candid comments,
And we'll try to be polite,
Bur don't read about organisms at night!
For I am a rather muddled Muse,
And it is, it is a debatable thing.
To be a muddled Muse.

Chorus regular, again. One-two-three-
Muse ROCKS!

End of song. Muses bow and Kokopelli throws a pie into Mimi's face. Readers can do anything they want.
