Life, the universe, pies, hot-pink bunnies, world domination, and everything
A few days into April — but then, the weather is lagging, too.

My parents came to visit for Greek Easter today, we had brunch at a Greek restaurant on 5th Avenue that someone recommended to Dad and ate our first meat in a week. The food was really good, but I filled up on the appetizers so much that I couldn’t finish the lamb once it actually came. (That was okay, though, we just got it to go and I had it for dinner.)
After that, Mom and I dropped Dad off at the Met and we walked in Central Park. Every day, more and more trees have buds, and the cherry blossom trees are turning pink, but not quite in full bloom yet. There was a good breeze, so even though I was freezing, at Conservatory Water, I rented one of the toy sailboats and steered it around for half an hour. I did a lot better than the last time I tried it, in the fall– I managed to get little #30 all the way around the basin and then, at my Mom’s suggestion, sent it across to the other side.
When the rental time was up, we joined Dad at the Met and saw the exhibit on paintings of gardens and parks in fin-de-siècle France before closing time. (The scenes in the paintings felt a lot like what we’d just come in from! After all, Central Park was designed in the late 19th century, too!)
Then they drove me back to campus and Mom helped me pack up my heavier winter clothes and some of my books to take home, so that there’s less to do when I actually move out at the end of term.
Sounds like a perfect day!
Besides being a little chilly, it really was! This weekend should be nice and springy.
Listening to it again, “Watching the Detectives” is a pretty dark song and I’m kind of surprised it was used as the theme song for an educational PBS show about historians, which was where I first heard it.
So, all geared up for Yuri’s Night?
NYUri’s Night was great! We made cheese stars and moons and macaroon meteorites again, played music and sang along, and decorated the dorm lounge with cardboard stars, spaceships, and meteors painted gold and silver! Even though some people were embarrassed by how they did in the trivia contest, everyone learned a lot and the winners got prizes from the AMNH!
And because one of the questions was about the “Enterprise†at the “Intrepid†museum, the students from the hall council decided that we should make a visit to the “Intrepid†a dorm event if we have enough fun and money left this year.
You have more fun than anybody.
When I have fun, it’s a lot of fun, but the rest of the time, I have a lot of work.
Happy birthday, bookgirl and Grant O!
Many happy returns to both!
Thank you both!
And to you, Piggy, on Sunday!
Thankee kindly in advance!
Concurrent felicitations.
I confirmed our reservation for Newport! Now I just have to survive finals in order to get there…
Update: In the hotel lobby in Newport, not dead, all work done except the GIS project I got an extension to finish next week, and… NOT DEAD OR INSANE!
That’s good news!
*clears throat*
I haven’t been by this place in many moons, but I’ve been reaching back into the depths of my brain to try to process some things from high school. MuseBlog and the friends I made here were a huge part of my life then, so I thought I would stop by.
It’s good that the forum still exists, even if it’s rarely used. Just seeing the format of the web page sent a lot of memories rushing back. I absolutely lived on here for a while. Looking back, my situation at home was less than ideal, and since I was homeschooled I didn’t have an escape from my house. The internet really saved me, and I’m grateful something led me here.
Good to see you! You’re always welcome here.
Hey! Always good to hear from you. *Pies*
It’s so good to hear from you!!!! I know I’m not alone in having wondered if you were doing well and what you’d been up to. You’ve been missed. Even though MB isn’t very active, there are lots of people still around and talking regularly.
I miss you guys! I’m still alive out here in Boston.
Where in Boston are you?
MONTY! We miss you so much. Please don’t hesitate to reach out through any of our old channels <3 I'm so glad you were there, especially in college, and I wish we could've kept in touch better. I hope you're well.
R.I.P. Alan Bean, fourth person to walk on the moon. Not many moonwalkers left now. Just four, I think: Aldrin, Schmitt, Scott, and Duke.
And the first artist on another world.
So, Manhattanhenge?
I’m home on Long Island this year, so probably not. And on the July dates I’ll be in Turkey.
I just went on a great bike ride with my Dad! We had tried riding last week, but I’m too short to ride J.’s bike, so we couldn’t. We found my old bike from Middle School in the basement and took it to the bike shop for a tune-up, but they said it would cost as much to fix it as it would to buy a new bike, so yesterday we bought a new one in my size. It’s shiny white and has 7 gears, but I mostly stuck to 2nd and 3rd for the hills in our neighborhood.
It must have been years and years since I last rode a bike that wasn’t a stationary one in a gym, but I really did just innately remember how to balance and pedal. We went south a bit until we almost reached the highway, then north along the backroads for a loop that went back to our house. I tried to pick a low-incline route back as Dad was feeling tired, based on walking those same roads, and while he did have to walk a bit, he did like that I picked a downhill road back to ours.
Now that I am home with J., we get to talk about Dungeons and Dragons a lot, and I actually got to play a session with him and one of his online friends yesterday. I have a lot of character ideas that he is helping me create character sheets for, and I recently discovered the Seeker Warlock class, a sky/space themed spellcaster who got their powers by making a pact with a supernatural being that seeks knowledge (you get to decide exactly what being is your patron).
I could play a follower of Urania.
Happy Tau Day, one and all!
