YES!!! I have my dress designed. I’ll email it to the GAPAs soonnish.
I’m emailing them at the moment. I hope they get it… if they don’t I’ll try again.
I’m sort of a neophyte. Why do we have to E-mail the GAPAs our dresses?
You don’t have too. It’s just a common thing that the female MBers like to do.
Oh, like you male MBers have never done such a thing? I can easily envision Beavo sending in a picture of his strapless mini for the GAPAs to post.
Well, my toga’s not exactly picturesque, at least not without me in it.
I am assuming you are picturesque?
Ideas we have so far:
– Colorful theme
– Vegetarian menu
– Wungs, guinea pigs, or gerbils taking our coats
– Guinea pigs to eat? (Please, no.)
– Ice sculptures that melt away to reveal flower sculptures
– Colored/lit fountains (with drinkable fruit juice?)
– Maze of rose hedges
– Easter egg hunt? (Might be hard to pull off.)
– Puffin Puffs (I have no idea what they are, but they’ve been suggested.)
– Wedding between MissSwann and Red-Tailed Hawk? (Apparently it’s forbidden by law, but maybe in a alternate universe it could work.)
– Sherbert
– Fruit
That’s all the ideas that support has been expressed for. The ones ending in question marks have been argued against.
My observations/complaints/additions, not to you specifically (well, not all of them):
1. I still don’t get the idea of something taking our coats. I find it unnecessary.
2. What’s wrong with eating guinea pigs?
3. Why ice? It’s supposed to be spring.
4. Yeah, not liking any sort of “hunt” either.
5. Puffin puffs haven’t been suggested; they’re just a fact of any MuseBlog ball. I’ve already begun preparations for them.
6. Sherbet, not sherbert.
7. Several people are wearing non-Western garb, e.g. kimonos, tunics, or togas.
8. Formality is required, as at each MDB.
I think the idea of the ice sculptures is that they have more permanent (wood? metal? plastic?) sculptures of flowers inside them, so they melt to reveal the flowers.
I don’t know what’s actually wrong with eating guinea pigs (after all, we eat chickens, pigs, and cows), it’s just something I’d prefer not to do.
I don’t really get the coat-taking thing either, but it’s been supported by numerous MBers.
Tunic? Perhaps I should wear a tunic. *goes on epic quest to find tunic*
Vegetarian menu sounds good to me.
And I don’t get the coat thing either… why can’t we just hang up our coats in the cloakroom?
At formal events (and some not so formal) a cloakroom attendant is expected to do that for you. Guinea pigs would seem a trifle too petite for the job, however. And guinea pigs tall enough to handle cloakroom duties…no offense to anyone, but I really don’t want to meet them.
*shudders slightly*
Mutant guinea pigs. Scary.
Hmm… how about pixies?
The whole point of the sculptures is the flowers.
Actually, Piggy, why don’t we eat you? Your name is half a guinea pig. Amd Rebecca, after my pictures of adorable little Emmett and Jasper, why would you not want to eat them???
I’m confused. I don’t recall opining in one direction or the other on the edibility of guinea pigs. I mentioned only that I didn’t particularly want to encounter one that was big enough to carry around a human-sized coat.
Oops, I meant meet them. Not eat them. No one eats my little babies. And Piggy, someone else could make the food.
No, I don’t think so. I’ve trained the wungs to not obey anyone except Master Baker and me, so singlehandedly making all that food would be impossible. Mwahahahaha…
Um, excuse me?
Well, they’re also polite, so they’re bound to obey Lady Bunniful, S.Q. as well. I wouldn’t encourage rudeness, after all.
I should hope so, considering I built this tea room, pixel by pixel, with my own two hands. Not to mention all the tea I drank and scones I ate in the name of thorough, painstaking research. Or all the blood, sweat, and tears I put into its creation. Okay, so no actual blood. And only metaphorical sweat. And there was laughter among the tears. But still…
Really, I had been thinking it would’ve been offensive to say I trained them to obey you as well, considering what an obvious fact that is. It would’ve lessened your greatness, o Queen.
Well, when you put it that way….
(Aside: I have a feeling you will go far in my life, my friend, possessing such wisdom thus early.)
What is thy bidding, my master?
(Let me savor a moment the sound of that.)
Carry on. As you were. I trust your judgment instinctively.
Well, I’m making the food, so if you ate me, you wouldn’t be able to eat anything else.
HEY!!!!!
NNNNNNNNIIIIIIIIIIIIIICCCCCCCCCCEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Oh! Idea for the easter egg hunt:
The GAPAs could put little, random easter eggs around the ‘Blog. They would be brightly colored, and if you click them, music plays, confetti sparkles, or koko comes and pies you someone.
5 – That might be a bit hard for the GAPAs to pull off, especially as we’re all just getting used to the new blog. (I would reply to you using the nested-comment thing, but this stupid school computer won’t let me.
I need to find a dress…..I can’t believe it’s almost May!!!! (I’ll be 13!!! w00t!!)
i made a Polyvore of my outfit, is it all right if I link it?
I designed an invitation to the May Day Ball…I tried to post it on MA, but something went wrong…GAPAs, could you find that and post it here? Or should I post a link? Or send you the picture? Or what?
You can’t post pictures on MA. Not even GAPAs can, except in the main post. The software strips out the code. You can send us the picture by email as usual. gapa at musefanpage dot com.
Still i like new mb! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! !
E-mailing my dress right now! Sorry if the colours are all wonky.
Is this ball formal or casual?
(What that really means is will I get pied if I come in jeans?)
Formal. Yes.
Hmm, I don’t have a dress yet, nor do I plan to draw one. Maybe I’ll change my mind, but this way I will describe it with words so everyone can imagine their own versions. *lazy*
I don’t feel like sketching one either so I shall describe it too… long red ( BRIGHT red) halter with lots of sequins to be tacky.
I have sent my invite pic to the GAPAs…
GAPAs– Did you get my e-mail?
I’m trying to leave work right now, therefore I’d better not stop to look through email, but I’m pretty sure I remember one from you. After dinner I’ll try to catch up with posting MBers’ artwork.
Okey- dokey. Thanks, Rebecca. Have a nice dinner.
I’ve drawn/scanned/sent my gown in. You can post it here, or wait till the ball if that’s less complicated.
Will a sweater vest and kakis cut it as formal?
That would be a big “no.” This is a virtual ball. All the clothes are comfortable and flattering and you will all look amazing. Use some imagination. You can wear a sweater vest and khakis 364 other days of the year, if you like. The whole point of a ball is that it is another world, a dream, an exercise of wonderment. Not “come as you are.” <GAPA_paroxysm>
Formal means, at a minimum, dinner jackets (a.k.a. tuxedos) and floor-length gowns.
18- I don’t really know a lot about fashion, so I can’t say.
What? There are only 19 posts but it says 30 at the top. Oh well.
So when does this ball take place?
That’s because it includes replies in its total number, but since they are subsets of the initial post numbers, the number of new initial posts is much lower. Did that make sense?
I don’t really want to draw my dress (I’m not much of an artist) so I’ll just describe it.
Long, green, with lots of embroidered somethings on it.
I have a picture of my dress, if it is okay to link to it [I made a copy in Photobucket. ~Rebecca]:
Thank you! I am also wearing a large red rose pinned in my hair and a small embroidered handbag covered in beaded flowers.
CTN’s chiton:
Invitation created by AthenianPsycho:
How colorful! I love it!
Hmmmmm. I shall probably attend. I can’t decide between the following two dresses, however:
What do all of you think?
i like the dark color, but the lighter one’s style. I think I like the lighter blue one better… but I don’t have much of an opinion.
Thank you, GAPAs, for posting my chiton.
The dark blue one!
I like the lighter one.
I think I like the lighter blue one.
I Like Dress #1.
Dang. So I drew up this awsomocity ballgawn, but my email isn’t working and my scanner doesn’t connect to the printer. So Its brown, like a kimono, but a little more fitted in the upper arms. It has a green belt in that pointy western style and lots of brown feathers coming out of the slit below the belt.
The dark blue one !!!!!
The colours on mine are destroyed. The top part of my dress is yellow silk, the skirt is pale yellow taffeta. I like the lighter one, Luna!
Is this better, Silver Lining?
Yes. Thank you.
SFTDP.
Whoops. Peace*’s screen name was programmed into my computer first. Sorry.
Nice dresses. I’d go with the light blue one.
Did you get mine? I sent it with two other sketches last night.
Yes, but when the email arrived, I was already shutting down for the night.
Oh, OK. Would it be possible to post those three pictures today at some point? Thanks.
4- AHHHH! You don’t know what Puffin Puffs are!? Well, I have some explaining to do. Puffin Puffs are a rare delicacy (baked and puffed by the Wungs) that we have every Ball. They’re quite delicious, really. (Granted it takes some time to chew.) Before eating, most people rip the beak and the feet off (I dip them in guacamole separately) although IBCF has been known to eat them whole, in one bite. Where is he? I haven’t seen him in ages. So, the boatload of hors’ devours that should be arriving soon…who will be there to eat it in three gulps? I guess I’ll do it.
/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\
\ /
\ ___:evil:___ /
32 – They’re made of actual puffins? But that wouldn’t go with the vegetarian menu. Also … ew.
Wait, it’s all vegetarian? No non-vegetarian menu selections?????? Even virtually, I’d rather not eat just vegetarian dishes…..
How about this: we can reverse the usual “vegetarian options” and make the menu vegetarian, with a few “meat options.”
I wouldn’t want to eat vegetarians! If there aren’t any non vegetarian selections, then we have to eat vegetarians! And I don’t want to be a cannibal!
Why is this thread still open? Why isn’t it closed?
[‘Tis closed now. –Admin.]
3.1.1- Right, yeah.
3.1.1.1- You’re wearing a toga? That could be interesting, but rather hard to dance in….
25- I like the darker blue one.
33- Yup. In all ways. XD But some people like them. And we have to have them, otherwise it wouldn’t be the MDB.
I don’t really know what I’m wearing…. Something blue and satiny, possibly strapless. I am unable to visualize it in more detail than that, however, so I guess just imagine it however you like.
Puffin puffs were first mentioned on the Planning thread for the original May Day ball, comment 136, with further elucidation (if you can call it that) in comment 166.
*shudders*
Erm. Yummy. *weak smiles*
Oh no, I need to find a dress! *rapid and intensive googling*
36- I already knew what mine looked like, so I drew it. I’d like to hav eit for our formal, in a little under a month, but it’d be pretty hard to make.
By the way, Rebecca, when you post it, would it be possible to fix the color? It’s supposed to be cherry blossom pink, not… whatever that weird color is that the scanner gave it. And the ribbon flowers are purple.
So when’s this ball going to be? Is it going all through May or just for a few days?
I think I’ll wear a bowler hat with a kakhi suit and black pointy shoes.
And I defintely do not want to eat puffins.
GAH I just remembered that I have to draw/google my dress!
32(Eragon)- Hmm, and where’s Elwing? I will probably wear something red. I know.. strapless, shortish matching red shoes.
What is this all about? I’m a neophyte(did I spell that right?) and I don’ t get Muse either, I get Cricket tho. And I’m on the Chatterbox. Is attendance required?
No. The May Day Ball is just a dance we put on each year on May Day, or May 1st, which continues for a month or so since MuseBlog runs more slowly than real life. If you want to stop by and see what it’s like, you may, or you can ignore it. There’ll be virtual food, music, and dancing, and real socializing, and very real fun. Welcome to MuseBlog, by the way. Don’t worry about not getting Muse. There are a number of people here who don’t, and they get along just fine, although you may miss out on some inside references.
Thank you.
Thanks! I like dancing, so I might come. So, whats on the menu? I’m allergic to milk, eggs, peanuts, beef, and orange JUICE (but I can eat oranges themselves in moderate amounts without getting sick), so I would like to know what will be on the table beforehand, because if I need to bring my own food, I would like to be aware of it. Again, thanks for explaining!
PS. I like your name, Piggy!
Thanks. Yours is neat too, though rather death-related. Oh, don’t worry about the food–there’ll be more food on the buffet than could be listed on MuseBlog, thanks to the unusual physics of the Oasis.
How is “fireandhemlock1996” death-related?
Your name reminds me of Lord Of The Flies, which I once read the first few pages of before getting bored and forgetting about it. There was someone who everyone called Piggy, but he hated it.
As for allergies, perhaps we can make some sort of genetically modified food that no one’s allergic to. Since it’s all virtual, we could plausibly do that.
Yes, there was a discussion regarding my name in relation to that character’s on an old Muser parody that never took off: Lord of the Pies. As for fireandhelock1996 being death-related, hemlock is a plant that Socrates used to carry out his execution, and fire, well, I’ll let you figure that one out. You’re smart. And in 1996, I’m sure at least a few people died, but that’s beside the point.
Given that a “few” people die every day, I think that, yes, it’s safe to assume that a few people died in 1996.
Carl Sagan for one.
Excuse Moi? I was not thinking of death at all, quite the contrary! It’s a reference to my favourite book, “Fire and Hemlock”, and, as I was born in the November of 1996, it’s just a reference so people can see how old I am. But death? Nono. Not at all, Piggy! And, don’t worry about food, I can bring my own food.
I was born in 1996 too! We must be close to the same age!
Did something happen to my email? Do I need to resend it?
See my earlier comment, in which I said we received it. Your files will have to be converted into a usable format, a task I haven’t been able to get to yet. And probably won’t be able to until after I get home from work tonight.
Oh, really? I didn’t know the format wasn’t usable! Why isn’t it?
We can only post JPG, GIF, and PNG files on the blog, everything else has to be converted. Not a big deal; it’s just extra steps. We do a fair amount of converting, resizing, compensating for bad scans, and the like.
Ah. Yes, my scans were PDFs.
I think I shall wear this dress:
Ummm…. how should I say this? It looks a little…. bunniful. Overly fancy. Uncomfortable.
Bunniful? As in, hot pink? It looks more light pink to me. Compare it with this: .
And as for comfortable, this is a virtual ball. We don’t have to deal with real-life problems like allergies and uncomfortable clothes. Everything’s comfortable.
I will wear a similiar dress, but with shorter arms, silver rims+it’s golden. Just not that pinched up.
Beautiful!!!!!!!!
Did my documents work? I used word, but i don’t really know.
44- Me likes. I’d google something, but I’m kind of afraid my parents would think I was crazy…
47- Then draw&scan one!
47-If they ask what you’re doing, tell them! Geez!
Can we have sesame chicken at the party?
My tummy’s rumbling already. *rumbles*
Or is that thunder?
47- Aye, I sympathize. My parents think I’m off the wall anyway, so I’ll probably google something nevertheless. They’d think I’m weirder if I drew/scanned.
50- I want!
You’re a MuseBlogger. Of course you’re off the wall.
51, 51.1-We all are, aren’t we?
It seems a lot of people are getting their dresses from the same site. I just went there and found my last year’s gown. This year I will go for something more interesting though. I’m deciding between the many choices I have found. Maybe if I were good enough at photoshop, I’d make something with all of them. Should I go for puufy skirts or not? I’ve found this really gorgeous puffy thing, but I don’t know…whatever, I’ll think about it. I still have a few days to think about it.
Oh noes, I can’t decide on my dress. *yanks hair out*
How can i post a picture of my dress?
Is there a way to link google pages to museblog? I found a fancy dress I think I can find online, but my emails still fried. (needs to stop signing up for forums and such with zero knowledge of electronics)
Give us the link in a comment and we’ll see what we can do.
48- I’m not good at drawing, though. I would, but it would turn out with absolutely no style whatsoever.
49- I’m pretty sure they wouldn’t understand even if I told them, and anyway they don’t like me websurfing. My parents are very paranoid of the Internet.
50- YES. DEFINITELY.
Oh well, whatever. I don’t know if I’m allowed to ask this under the blog rules, but what should I Google to find a good dress-pic site, if I do decide to be brave and look?
Hmm. I did a slightly adequate ( ) drawing of my dress for the Boat Dance, my school’s version of the eighth grade prom. I might find out how to scan & post it… I like the dress. It’s prettiful.
2 days ’til May Day!!!
Can someone please tell me how to post my dress off the internet?
Email it to GAPA at musefanpage dot com.
I’m depressed. I have this big Girl Scout event on Friday, so I’m probably going to miss the first day of the ball!
59: OHMIGOD SO DO I. Do you live in orange County?
59- It’s okay, it’s going on all month.
To what address would one send their dress to be pictured on the thread? I have a nice, orange-y yellow one that I’d like to send in.
GAPA at musefanpage dot com.
Isn’t the adress gapa @ musefanpage.com?
Why did that come out as a link?
Anything you write in that format will automatically turn into a link. That’s why Piggy wrote the address as he did, and why we add spaces to perform delinkification.
A description of my dress:
Sky blue, with white lace straps and white lace trim. The skirt is light and flowy, made of layered sheer fabric.
^.^
The description of my Tux:
Black
White
And Tux-like
Oh dear. I seem to have been forgotten.
You haven’t been forgotten. It’s just been an extraordinarily busy week.
60–Er, no. I live across the country, in zee loverly land of Massachusetts.
My dress: a red gown, fitted and draped at the bodice and then flowing down into a full skirt. See post 22 =]
I also have a red embroidered bag, like such:
and a large red rose in my hair.
Yay! I’m so excited! =D
More ballgowns.
For Rose Quartz:
For Sunrunner Bramblewood:
For small but fierce:
Oooh, yay! Hmm, one problem, though. The color is a bit pinker than that. Would it be possible for a kindly GAPA to adjust the color to something like this? (It’s my dress for our school formal. )
I had a problem with scanning. Sorry, it turned all black. It’s white, though.
That’s easy to fix, small but fierce. Take another look.
I’m looking…is it cuz I’m using a Mac? Or cuz I put it in a word document?
It’s now white with black lines. Refresh your page or, if that doesn’t work, *all together now* clear the cache of your browser.
67- Nice, SBF. I wish I could draw like that….
Thanks. Now it’s working! Yay! *happy dance*
CATKOPELLI:
The May Day Ball has already started. Not surprisingly, it began on May 1st, or May Day. I see that you know this already, since you have posted there, equally obnoxiously. Please do NOT post multiple times. Just because you can reply to posts, it doesn’t mean that it’s not EXTREMELY annoying when someone posts four times in a row on the same thread, especially when they have a ridiculously long, misspelled if I might add, name. “Catkopelli The Great(43 MBETW Points+wungs (*-*),(-_-),(o-_-o),(^-^),(O-O),(p-q)+57 PotterPoints.)+Hermionie’s Biggest fan?” First, what, exactly, is a MBETW point? Second, you really don’t need SIX wungs. Plus, several of them already have owners. And you really can’t be Hermione‘s biggest fan if you can’t even spell her name right. Are you a neophyte? I didn’t think you were.
The PoPoPo fines you 30 choklit bars and confiscates anything in your name that is in parentheses. I would suggest you become simply “Catkopelli the Great,” or even “Catkopelli.”
Sorry if this is a bit harsh, it was just getting REALLY annoying.
Wanna be treasurer of MBers for the Ethnical Treatment of Wungs?
Catkopelli, I hope you meant to make a friendly gesture, but in context, your words comes across as disrespectful.
Playfulness is one thing, and we welcome it. It is quite another matter when someone repeatedly posts comments that are disruptive and contrary to the spirit of the threads they are intended for.
In the long run, you will enjoy MuseBlog more if you reply or comment appropriately. Other MBers will be more friendly toward you and more likely to reply to your comments.
Did you mean “Ethical?”
PLEASE take all the parentheses out of your name. We see that you have points. We don’t care. And p-q, o.o, and, I believe, ^-^… possibly -_-… already have owners. Take the wungs away. YOU are the one who is not treating them ethically.
I know you’re really excited to be on MB and all, but you don’t have to post SO much, or SO pointlessly, or with SUCH a long name.
And you haven’t given me the fine.
You also don’t appear to have actually read my post.
PUR-LEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
