We’ll kick off this new edition with a question from the end of the previous thread:
Do you have any weird habits/ticks? When I’m concentrating I run my finger along the underside of my eyelashes. I have no idea why I do that. (asked by Silver Lining)
First non-GAPA post! (hopefully) I often crack my neck, my back, and my knuckles (all the knuckles, not just the finger-base ones). I have no idea why.
Hmm. I have quite a few caused by stress.
Eating my hair. Well, putting strands of it in my mouth, but only while still connected to my scalp.
I do that too…It drives my poor mother insane.
I do that too. When I’m thinking, especially, strands of hair seem to end up in my mouth… and then it gets sticky and yucky. XP
Haha. The other day my dad was quizzing me, and I started chewing on my hair. My dad’s like “Don’t do that or I’ll cut off your hair.” and I’m like “oh I was chewing on my hair?!”
When I go down the stairs, I always run my right hand along the wall. The wall is quite bumpy and it’s a cool feeling.
Oh, and I shake my right leg up and down really fast when I’m sitting down, like right now. It helps me concentrate a bit, I think. I am typing faster than before, and I’m not making as many mistakes.
I do that too! My friends make fun of me Do you think it’s Restless Leg Syndrome?
Me too!
I twitch my nose. And I compulsively try to tuck my hair behind my ear when I’m nervous, even if it’s already there.
I adjust the footjoint of my flute a lot at band practice, even if it was in the right spot already and I end up puting it right where it was before. I have no idea why I do this.
Oh, I have lots. But when I’m reading something on the computer that’s long, like a story I’ve written, I shake my hands really fast up and down. I know that’s weird, but it’s hard for me not to do.
1.3 and replies- I do that.
When I hold a sandwich in my left hand, I put my littlie finger on the same side of it as my thumb. I sometimes run my hand along a wail/fence/rail when I walk along it.
I wiggle my ears a little or do this weird thing with my fingers (thumb under my chin, middle finger curved below my lower lip, index finger sticking straight up next to my nose) when I’m thinking about something. Or spacing out. Usually the latter.
This is delayed, but isn’t it “tic”, not “tick”?
I got a mental image of someone with ticks all over them… Eww…
Ooh, ticks. I had a tick in my bellybutton a few years ago. *pays PoPo fine*
Ewie….
When I rest my head on my hand, I usually fold my fourth and fifth fingers under. I don’t know whether anybody else does that.
I do that, too. I don’t know why really, I just do I guess.
When I’m nervous, I pull my ears back.
I have a sort of tick, I guess, with my eyes/eyebrows; I’m not sure if I can describe it though. First I raise my left eyebrow, then I raise both eyebrows really high then scrunch them down while rolling my eyes. When I do it, it’s usually repeated about four times before I stop. According to the mother, I do this often while reading/using the computer. It drives her nuts.
When I’m nervous, I play with my hair.
When I push my glasses up, I push my nose down afterwards. All the time. :S
I’m sure I’ve got more…. But those are the main ones that bug me and/or people around me.
Pull your ears back? Like a cat?
Erm..
I don’t know. I can wiggle my ears back and forth…
oh wow i was just scrolling past and saw this and i do two of the four things you listed (the ears and the nose)
It’s not a tick, really… but when I’m writing something, words come to me best when I’m walking around. I have no idea why.
My eye twitches.
I bite the inside of my cheek, twirl my hair, tap my foot, and the one that bugs people the most: I have to take my shoes off to think. I always wear sandals and slip them off whenever possible.
New question: What is everyone’s birth order? As in, are you the inly child, oldest of four, what? I have a very complicated family, but I usually say that I’m the second youngest of five. Three of those are my half-siblings, so I could be considered oldest of two…and then when you add the in-laws, life gets really complicated.
Youngest of two.
Younger of two, strictly speaking.
And I knew that, too. Well, that’s what I get for hitting the “comment” button without reading my post first.
Middle of three.
Older of two.
I am an only child. But not a lonely child!
Middle of three.
Oldest of three.
Eldest of two.
Elder.
Darn it!
I’m an only child, but I have 12 cousins on my dad’s side and 2 ex-cousins on my mom’s.
Eldest of one.
Eldest of two. And pray that my younger sister never joins the ‘blog. She acts like a four year old.
But if you’re asking about the people I consider be my siblings as well, I don’t know. I don’t have time to figure it out right now.
Elder of two.
And the younger is on here as Beetles.
Oldest of three. I think you guys have “met” Tangy and Hib.
Oldest of, ah, one completely-related sibling, one stepsister, and one half-brother.
Older of two. Half the time I hate my little brother, and half the time he’s my best friend.
Younger of two.
1-Running my hands through my hair. Or shaking my head like a wet dog.
6-Middle of three kids.
Oldest of three! One of whom is Pseudo! The other of whom is six years old!
How did you find MuseBlog?
Through Chatterbox. Found the link to that in the back of the Cricket we used to get, went on it, kept hearing about MuseBlog on there, came to find it, found it, abandoned Chatterbox. Very nearly. I went back fairly frequently for the first while, but then stopped going so often. Now, if I were to go back, most of the friends I made during my brief stay would be gone, and I have so many more here, that it’s really not worth it. Not to mention I have a really difficult time being active on two sites at once. Don’t ask me why.
I saw it in a letter in an issue of Muse. I think.
Same here!
Through Chatterbox, like Errata.
Through my Muse mag. I was flipping through some older issues, and I saw a couple of people from Muse Mail mention the site and the URL. Out of curiosity I logged on.
I sort of remember coming on ages ago, maybe posting once or twice, but then leaving. I finally decided to come on again though, which is why I’m here now!
Through Loreena/AP (who was NAPOI when I first came around).
She was also the one who got me to read Muse.
Through that very, very old contest in a very, very old issue of Muse, when people were asked to take the test that judged your racial stereotypes and blog about it. I came on for a while, posted < 5 times under another name, and then left for a while.
Speaking of which, my 4 year blogiversary is coming up (4/18/06). Generation 3, baby! (According to the latest generations tally, anyways.)
Does anybody know which issue that was?
THE RACIST ISSUE! OMGeorge! I remember that!
Thank God for the cactuses! That’s racist!
Sorry. I keep finding DW/TW references in everything. (tractor trailer accident = Ianto’s tractor, for example)
The main Muse magazine website. I clicked the link and there I was. I lurked for a while, though.
I was trying to go to the Muse website and was redirected.
Habits/ticks? Probably loads. But I can’t think of any at the moment.
Birth order? Only child.
Aaaand, I can’t think of any other questions. Oh well.
SFTDP
How did I find MB? Letting Muse, I think. Just looked it up as soon as I began to have regular computer access, and started posting.
Aeiou, by way of Crraw, left a URL in one of her messages to a fan-letter. So I got the address from there, then my cousin told me about how she had joined so I did as well.
Oldest of three.
Eldest of three.
6 – Elder of two
8 – The Wikipedia page, I think. I don’t really remember.
6- Elder. I have one sister.
8- Through the muse fan page (after googling MB when I was bored).
8- Pseudonym.
8 – Through Enceladus. I think he found it through Chatterbox, but I’m not sure.
I found it through the official Muse site. There’s a button on it that says “Visit the MuseBlog!”
Yes, they seem to think we call ourselves “the MuseBlog.”
I thought so too! Whoops…
wait, i call you the museblog! should i not? i always thought of this place as a thing that requires an article. it sounds weird just saying “i’m gonna go comment on museblog”
i may choose to persist in my willful ignorance of MB article preferences. Just fyi.
And I just say “I’m gonna go MuseBlog”. Thee hast been verbed.
MuseBlog wouldn’t be MuseBlog without inconsistency.
“The MuseBlog” sounds more harmless….
New question: Does anyone but me (i.e. anyone else under 80) prefer tonic water (without the gin, of course ) to Sprite, Mountain Dew, Pepsi and so on?
i prefer normal water to all of the above. i don’t like pop. or any fizzy things, really. or french fries, or ketchup, or deep-fried things. i have been accused of communism based on my un-American tastes. (as a joke, obviously)
No. I’d take Sprite over Club Soda any day.
Nope, I love soda. But I can’t drink it for more than a year. *points at braces*
What are your favorite random words? Mine are squiggle, elk, biscuit, velociraptor, salad, emu, and quash.
We must squiggle the elk biscuit in order to quash the salad emus!
I love the word “moose.” I don’t know why. Moose, moose moose.
Contusions and lacerations. They’re fancy words for bruises and cuts, respectively. Quash is cool, too.
Purpuraceous. It means “being Purple-y”
Crept and ninja.
My favorite words are apostrophe, sonic, shenanigan, quidnunc, and spiffy.
I think I would not prefer Sprite to tonic water.
I don’t really prefer either. Lemonade is much better, but if I had to choose, I think I’d choose soda, because I don’t like tonic water much.
6 – I have one older adopted sister, then me, and then two younger sisters.
17 – I prefer Sprite, sorry. What’s tonic water? (I should probably know this.)
Sparkly water, I think. It tastes like flavorless Sprite. Yech!!
No, flavorless carbonated water is called seltzer water or soda water. (Club soda has a little salt mixed in, too, I think.) Tonic has a bitter taste. It’s flavored with quinine, a chemical found in the bark of a tree that originally came from Peru. I’ve been told that the British colonial rulers of India used to drink tonic water to protect themselves against malaria. (Quinine is an anti-malaria drug.)
Isn’t tonic water fluorescent under ultraviolet light?
The internet says Yes.
That’s a pwnsome fact I should memorize (“Well my drink is fluorescent under ultraviolet light. What does your coke have to offer?”).
aaah, that would explain why it’s called tonic water. clever GAPA is clever.
so a gin and tonic is really gin and quinine then? well, at least there won’t be any malaria parties! (super-old xkcd? anyone?)
I am currently using a program called the Dialectizer and viewing the MB in Swedish Chef language. I’m going to show what this post says in my next post.
ah’s currently usin’ a program called th’ Dialeckizer an’ viewin’ th’ MB in Swedish Chef language. I’m a-gonna show whut this hyar post says in mah next post.
Sorry, that was Redneck. THIS is Swedish Chef:
I em coorrently useeng a prugrem celled zee Deeelectizer und feeooing zee MB in Svedeesh Cheff lungooege-a. I’m gueeng tu shoo vhet thees pust seys in my next pust. Um de hur de hur de hur.
When someone says something like “Oh, it’s not until May,” what pops up in your head? For me, a green calendar page pops up for January, then it disappears followed by a pink one for February, then a blue one for March, then a pink one for April, then a yellow one for May, then a yellow one for June, then a white one for July, then a pink one for August, then an orange one for October, then a brown one for November, then finally, a dark red one for December. Choklit if you read all of that.
*takes choklit* I see a piece of cold pizza. Don’t ask me why, it happened when I read your post. “Oh, it’s not until May.” There it is again.
No one has honestly said that phrase to me before.
May poles or math team states. Both of which should be pretty self-explanatory.
The really scary band competition/Silverwood trip!
I picture a red rose and Torchic. I think you’d know why.
TORCHIC!!!
I don’t really like May. Or feel strongly about it. I associate colours or events from last year with the other months, but May is always on the fringe. Maybe nothing mmajor has ever happened to me in May?
Do you use mechanical or regular wooden pencils? Or other?
I use mechanical.
I mostly use mechanical, (I don’t know, I’ve just always seemed to like them better) but often I can’t find ones that have lead in them in my house so then I have to use a “regular” wooden one.
I use pens. Pencils annoy me.
I prefer regular wood pencils to mechanical, but pens to both usually.
Same.
I use mechanical pencils, usually, because I don’t like how regular ones always go blunt.
Both, but I always have to use a knife when I sharpen regular pencils bucause pencil sharpeners hate me.
Whatever I can find/steal/get from begging someone.
I know several people like that. I was like that with paper when my paper in my ELA binder ran out.
Regular wooden ones.
Wooden.
Depends on what you’re doing with the pencil. Writing: mechanical. Drawing: wooden
Mechanicial.
I prefer using mechanical, but I usually don’t have them at the time I need them so I just use regular pencils.
I use pens, since pencils most teachers won’t accept assignments in pen (pencil = eraseable). But when in need, I use wooden ones- it’s too hard to chew on mechanical ones XD
Which is better? Peep chicks or bunnies?
I agree with you on the pencil question.
I like the Peep chicks better. The bunny ones, well, I can’t eat them without bursting out in laughter ever since the Kokon…(Speaking of which, when are the pictures going to be up? *puppy dog eyes*)
Kokon pictures from both MA and NC will be up sometime this weekend. They were Overtaken By Events, but I should finally have some time to pull things together today or tomorrow.
YAY
YAY!!!!!! Thank you, Lady B!!!!!
Oh dear. *barfs*
I don’t want to even think about that. (Peeps covered in soy sauce and sweet-and-sour sauce)
If I had to choose…both. No, really. They’re the same thing. But the chick Peeps are cuter.
Neither. Bleh.
Peep chicks. I had a peep bunny once that was… Hot pink.
Peep chicks-oh, you mean the extra-sugary treats! I thought it might mean something else…oh, never mind.
For Doctor Who fans:
You walk into a voting booth, and the only two options for Prime Minister of the Universe are
Harold Saxon
Dalek Sec
Who do you choose?
~~~~~~~~~~
For everyone else:
You walk into a voting booth, and the only two options for Prime Minister of the Universe are
The Red Queen
The Queen of Hearts
Who do you choose?
25 part 2- THEY’RE THE SAME THING, AREN’T THEY? IT WOULDN’T MATTER!!!
Nope. Different characters from different books. One was a playing card who liked to order beheadings; the other, a chess piece who liked to run. Tim Burton’s “Red Queen” was actually the Queen of Hearts, and he should have called her that.
Oh. Then I would just pie them and scream random things.
Well, I guess that the Red Queen got her head lopped off, and the Queen of Hearts took the title. Hey, that could work! Also, I would vote for the book’s Red Queen.
I don’t remember who Harold Saxon was, so I pick Dalek Sec. At least he was nicer when he was part-human.
Harold Saxon was SPOILER DOCTOR WHO SEASON 2 SPOILER DOCTOR WHO SEASON 2 SPOILER the Master.
Oh yeah, I forgot his “real” name.
Still Dalek Sec.
It doesn’t even matter. They’re both going to destroy the world.
I’d pick the Master because the Doctor would find him faster than Dalek Sec.
My vote would e Harold Saxon, because Dalek Sec would kill everyone because he feels he needs to (he is a Dalek), but the Master would kill everyone because it makes him happy. So why not make someone happy?
I would vote for Harold Saxon because the Daleks are more awesome when they’re in the act of taking over the world. Also, Harold Saxon might leave me alive.
Queen of Hearts
Why can’t we choose the white queen!!!??
Because (I assume) you’re supposed to choose the lesser of two evils.
25- I’d vote for the Red Queen (easier to assassinate), for the simple reason that she doesn’t run around screaming “off with ens head” 24/7.
Well actually, I wouldn’t vote.
If you turn on the radio, and the only stations were Hannah Montana or the Jonas brothers.’, who would you listen to?
I would turn off the radio.
No, actually, I would probably listen to the Jonas Brothers if I had to but it depends on whether you’re talking about Hannah Montana or Miley Cyrus because I like Miley Cyrus better. (According to this one crazed fan in my class, there’s a difference and she writes different songs, and I guess I like Miley Cyrus better…)
Oh yeah. Miley Cyrus isn’t too bad. Hannah Montana is.*agrees* But the Jonas Brothers are WORSE.
Actually, I think that the Jonas Brothers are *better than Hannah Montana, but Miley Cyrus is *better than the Jonas Brothers. I actually do like her song The Climb, but that’s one out of very few.
*not saying much
Jonas Brothers. If I listened to Hannah Montana, my head would explode from the sheer badness.
Hannah Montana.
Jonas Brothers.
I would take a pencil and gouge out my eardrums.
EWWW PIGGY!!
/ would take a pencil and gouge out whomever decided to broadcast the songs’ eardrums, and then their eyes.
I guess it depends on the song that they are playing because some of their songs I just can’t stand, and some are a bit better.
Hannah Montana.
I would turn my radio off.
I would turn off the radio.
Techniclay, Hannah Montana and Miley Cyrus.
I’d pick Hannah/ Miley and hope for the best,
27 piggy, you could just hope the radio breaks( that’s what hopes for the best means)
What is your absolute favorite word/words?
Either
Purpuraceous, which means being purple-y
or
Serendipity, which means good things happening to you that you didn’t expect
or
Hippopotomonstrosesquippedaliophobia, fear of long words (literally fear of hippopotamus sized, monstrous, foot and a half long words)
Speaking of Serendipity, my friend just gave me a book by that name that I should probably go and read.
Actually, serendipity means finding useful things that you’re not looking for.
Ah, I thought it expanded to anything that could happen.
Basically, it’s finding one good thing when you’re looking for something else.
I liked the first word.
PURPLE ROCKS!!!
Those are my favourite words, too. (I made a parody of the TSwizzle/Taylor Swift song “Fifteen”- “There are, fifteen syllables in hippopotomonstrosesquipedaliaphobia..” and sing it all the time.)
Sesquipedalian. It means of or relating to long words.
Hippopotomonstrosesquipedaliophobia, the fear of long words.
“Oh, no! I have Hippopotomonstrose-AAAAAHHH!!!!”
Obstreperous, Czechoslavokia, Kwakiutl (awesome to say)
oubliette. It sounds so cool to say, and it means a secret dungeon where the only access is a trapdoor in its ceiling.
Linearbandkeramik. The culture of the first prehistoric farmers in Europe.
And, my absolute favorite although I’ve never remembered how to pronounce it, mamihlapinatapai. A look shared by two people with each wishing that the other will initiate something that they both desire but which neither one wants to start.
27- I would listen too “Margaret destroys a radio with her bare hands”.
Your name is… Margaret?
Yes, but I’m not the same one who posted here long ago.
30- pizzaz? let’s have ben and jerry’s? the :idea:s are destroyed forever? i have too many favorites.
30~ So many….but I’m fond of “masticate”. It sounds like something dirty and possibly illegal, but isn’t.
And klangfarbenmelodie. That’s a good one, meaning color-tone song, basically, a musical term.
And….don’t get me started. Words are way too much fun.
Ms. R says that!
“You are masticating! To the trash can!”
30 – Probably “latibulate” or “You’re a sewer-rat decaying in a cesspool of pride.” (*coughShawnBulpopularcough*)
Do you stick posters and stuff on your walls? If you do, what is it?
On my wall:
Pictures of the Beatles/Queen and their album covers
A painting of a squid that I made
Miniposters of the URO
A picture of Bowie
A “resistance is Museless” sticker
Stuff from the 2007 World Series, as you know.
*time for my inner jock to come out of it’s shelf* *cringes* *hates the term jock*
Ok, let’s see…
-1 Yankees World Series poster
-1 article about the Yankees after they won the World Series
-1 American Girl magazine picture of a dog
-1 picture of my soccer team from last year
-1 piece of paper with a bunch of random pictures of my friends
-1 picture of my basketball team from last winter
-1 “Peace, Love, Happiness, and Pie” doodle I drew
And I have this bulletin board on my wall (Which is where most of the things I just mentioned above are on, and they’re all pretty small, so it’s not as much stuff as it looks like) that has a bunch of random magnets and buttons and stuff. It pwns. But I definitely need more Muserly things, especially ones related to pie.
My World Series are all stuff from the Red Sox winning in 2007! Oh, and I have a poster saying “It’s Not Hard To Peace Together” and a peace sign made up of puzzle piece shapes stamped in black ink that I made.
Oh, so are you that Red Sox fan from the Alter Ego thread?
I thought that was Castle….. * pays PoPo fine *
Oh, you mean me? Fried Lard π has yet to be guessed!!
Pseudonym, I’m not Castle. Have a nice day!!
On my wall:
A poster that says “Peas on Earth”
A print of a painting whose name I can’t recall with a girl lost in the woods being assailed by fairies
Another print of a painting whose name I can’t recall of a girl reading
Some of my artwork
A mobile of oragami african animal figures hanging fromt he ceiling
A post that says “Is it Friday Yet?”
Okay, I have…
Laminated National Geographic map of the world (This takes up almost one whole wall, it’s really big.
Hubble Space Telescope poster.
Orion Nebula poster.
Solar system poster.
Athens 2004 Olympics poster.
Mars Rovers poster.
National Parks calendar.
Framed signed photo from Robert Ballard!!
Pictures of the surface of the moon, Mayan ruins in Palenque, Petra in Turkey, and Angkor Wat that I cut from newspapers.
-a map of the world
-copy of the Magna Carta I bought when I went to Hereford Cathedral
-translation of said Magna Carta (it came with it)
-Mappa Mundi (also in Hereford Cathedral) poster
-Mappa Mundi’s translation
-Daily Telegraph/Sunday Telegraph free Kings and Queens of England poster
-Several oil paintings, some by me and some not by me (I used to do oil painting quite often before I got too busy)
-A bulletin board with random paraphernalia, like starr
I’ve got
1. A picture of a cat
2. A plaster square with a phoenix painted on it that I made
3. My favorite Garfield comics
That’s it. I’ve got a ton of posters in my closet, though.
I have:
1. Lots of pictures that my friends have drawn for me ( a wolfmuffin, a monkey, a cartoon version of myself) and birthday cards. These are right above my pillow because I love my friends.
2. On the outside of the door there are “motivational” posters that my mom puts there to make me feel like a rotten teenager.
3. On the ceiling I have my favorite book quotes, written in code.
4. I also have a Mardis Gras poster that my brother had up before he gave the room to me, which I keep to remind me of him.
5. A really stupid still life that my mom put up.
6. A Liberty’s Kids poster
7. A shadowbox with knickknacks from Europe.
8. A something=or-other I made for my mom when I was 2.
I don’t think that 2+5 should count, but they’re there.
Here is the list of everything on the walls in my room:
Yep, that’s it.
Wow! I have almost the exact same things on the walls of my room!
Me too! The only real difference is that there is paint on it!
i have
purple walls
a bulletin board
a book case
windows
and…. thats it.
I’ve got
-turquoise walls
-A Beatles “Help!” movie poster
-A mirror
-A framed photograph of a hummingbird by my mom
-A framed photograph of a seal
-An unframed artpiece which I made by simply throwing paint at it in a rainbow spiral pattern (think tie-dye)
-A hatrack
-Shelves
-A magnetic board and a round blue bulletin board, on which I’ve hung:
A drawing of The Beatles as Christmassy tiktaaliks made by Kate
A drawing of Chico and Eliza by Kate
A card made by Lily
Some clothing designs made by yours truly
A little beaded mermaid that my uncle’s girlfriend made
An artpiece that I made
A photograph of my kindergarden class
My favourite Get Fuzzy comics
A metal sign that says IMAGINE
I detest that song, “Imagine.”
What’s your favorite thing to draw?
For shame! I like it…
My favourite things to draw are people, flowers, surreal images, and clothing designs.
I like to draw The Doctor. And The Master. Sometimes together!
Daleks.
Mainly bearded smiley faces.
I’ve got
-A calendar
-A mirror
-A random square of cute wrapping paper behind the door
-Some cross-stitch pieces (shells, cats, and a dog) I did.
-A cat wall hanging
-One of the “A subcription to Muse is on its way!” things
-Some other stuff you really don’t want to know about, especially if you were shocked when you saw what SR was holding in the kokon photos.
What was SR holding in the Kokon photos? HPBs?
New Moon. *shudders*
Ohhh…*comprehension*
Stuff on my walls…
At my mom’s: Umm, paint? I’m planning to put up an enormous map of the world, when I find one priced right. One wall technically is a bookshelf, because I share the room with my sister, so…
At my dad’s, I have a few prints of paintings that were put when I was little that I never bothered to take down, one side wall is covered in an enormous bookshelf with my bunk bed on top of it and otherwise there’s another bookshelf (surprise, surprise) and my closet.
SFTDP:
What’s so scary about the name Margaret? *is curious*
Then people mix you up with me.
Walls:
Poster from summer reading program from 2003- I love that poster.
Banner-thing my mom made, has my name on it
Lamp-thingies sticking out of the wall
Dreamcatcher that my grandma gave me
One of my piano competition certificate things that my mom framed and put on my wall
And I’m considering putting up my “I Love Cats” thingy I made back in elementary school, just for laughing at. The cat is pink with purple eyes. XD and has a bow on it’s head.
I have a dreamcatcher too. It’s small and pink.
When someone says a word, do you occasionally spell it out in your head? For example, whenever I hear the word “occasion,” I automatically go “O-C-C-A-S-I-O-N” in my head.
No…. but when I say, look at, or spelll out a word on paper many times, it starts looking like the word is spelled wrong or just looks wrong. Does this happen to anyone else?
Yup. Like, take sugar. If you stare at it for long enough, it starts to look funny and you feel as if it’s spelled wrong.
That happens to me often, especially when I try to think only in words and end up thinking in the wrong language. “Zucker? That so weird-shouldn’t it be spelled sugar? No, that’s english. Zuger?”
That reminds me of something that happened to me just now.
I was writing out my ‘Vote Isabelle for President’ stickers and I started to think, ‘Shouldn’t that be votre?’ I had to restrain myself from adding an R after the T.
Good luck with your campaign!
Yes to both LBK and Adeia.
If I say a word over and over/write a word over and over, I start feeling like it isn’t actually a word. I love chanting random words over and over- it annoys people so much and makes them feel like whatever word I’ve picked to chant isn’t actually a word.
This happens to me. Suddenly a word starts to seem very weird to me. Like ‘donkey’. Why is that a word? Why do these two syllables make a word? Don. Key. Donk. Ey. Do. N. Key.
The walls of my room are mostly bare. There are a few stains and handprints on the wall above my bed, though, form me jumping on it and hitting the wall. There’s a clock… The calendar fell off my wall, but it was a 2009 calender anyways. Some Arabic calligraphy-quilts. Yup, it’s boring.
My floor, on the other hand…
-clothing
-knitting needles and yarn
books
backpacks
blankets, pillows, stuffed animals
random papers
all my furniture, especially…
…my bed, which lacks a bed stead
46 – No, but if I stare at words in writing for a little while, I start to make anagrams in my head. It’s strange. Maybe because I play Bananagrams so much.
I love Bananagrams despite being horrible at it. My family always beats me. It’s addicting though.
If I stare at words in writing, I start to calculate what percentage of the letters can be found in the phrase “scientific method”.
I do that with words too, Nym.
Sometimes… For stuff that I know as a spelling word. For example, we’re doing a poetry unit at the moment in lit, and when someone mentions a villanelle, I think of the spelling.
Oh my gosh yeeeess and then I can’t stop I’ve posted about this before. It drives me maaaaaaaaad. Especially if the words have a prime number amount of letters. GAH
Yes to you and Adeia. I’ve started half-thinking/half translating my thoughts into French during and just after class. I love it when I do something weird like this and half of MuseBlog says they do it too.
I’ve had several dreams in French. It’s weird.
Yup. I do that. only with spanish.
I, also.
What’s the weirdest thing you’ve ever eaten? For me, it’s alligator meat, but I’m sure people have eaten weirder. And yes, items that are usually thought of as non-edible count.
I’ve ingested loads of paper over the years. Lollipop sticks, random sheets, sections of important documents with personal information written on them… But I’m sure people can do better than that.
-A
Chocolate covered cricket.
I’ve eaten paper like Gradster, but a lot of people have probably done that.
I eat the plastic forks they have in our Cafeteria…
Hmmmmmm. Depends on what you consider weird. I’ve eaten lots of stuff. Snails, fried squid, smoked eel, chicken hearts, gator jerky, etc.
Eh… Fish eye is probably my weirdest. I’ve also eaten fish eggs, sea urchin…
I went over to a friend’s house for dinner once, and they were eating salmon. I received strange looks when I ate the skin. Is eating the skin not normal?
Eating the skin really isn’t that normal…..Nothing wrong with doing so, I suppose, but pretty sure people don’t normally eat the skin.
Uhm… Paper is good, but my personal favorite is straws. As for food, I’ve had ostrich, alligator… Various wild foods- greenbrier, honeysuckles, day lilies…
Part of a Post-It note after I lost a bet.
Sometimes I chew up candy wrappers.
I don’t eat them, though; just chew them for many minutes.
Two questions:
1) Where did the name you use on MB come from?
2) Do you have a photographic memory?
.
I’ll answer:
1) The character in the Harry Potter books. He seems wise and slightly crazy.
2) I *think* so… I can remember where specific phrases are on the page of a book, and I remember what my notes look like, and where certain pieces of information are.
.
47- Ostrich, it was delicious. And I’ve had alligator too, but it was a little bit too rubbery. I have an aunt in NC, her neighbors actually go out and hunt squirrels to make squirrel stew. :O
Tics- I flip my bangs when I’m thinking.
48-
1. My favourite book, Fire And Hemlock by Diana Wynne Jones, and the fact that I was born in 1996.
2. Yes, extremely. If I think about it for three seconds I could tell you exactly what was sitting on Mr. S’s desk in his studio, and I’ve only been in there three times, I think. (A clock that looks like a piano, a pen, and some paper)
47-
Hm…. Raw fish eggs? Except I’ve eaten them all my life. OH I KNOW!
Natto! It’s fermented soybeans, and if you start thinking about the texture of it while eating it, you feel like you’re going to barf. But it’s one of my favourite foods, as long as I make sure NOT to think about the texture and consistency.
Tics: I chew on my hair when I’m thinking, my ears go backwards if I’m nervous, I pick at the skin on my thumbs all the time, I do my weird eyebrow scrunch/eyeroll thing, and my fingers are almost constantly in motion.
1. I just like it. I forget where it came from. I’m the only Princess_Magnolia that I know of, although I’m not sure whether Mongolia has a princess.
2. No.
My name…I don’t really know. Well of course there’s the saying Every Dark Cloud Has A Silver Lining, and I guess I always look on the bright side of situations when I’m upset.
Yes, I have a photographic memory. Always have.
The weirdest thing I’ve ever eaten was squid. Yeah, I’m not big into trying new foods…
1) I was just thinking of a blogname for the MuseBlog, and muselover just came to mind.
2) No.
1) I thought up this name for a school project a while ago. I took two people I admire, the Hawai’ian princess KAIulani, and Captain Jacques-YVES Cousteau, and put their names together.
2) Only if I’m interested in the topic.
1. I think I was influenced by muselover’s name, and I liked maths. The heart was mostly because I wanted a symbol that no one else was using because it would help tell me apart from muselover, and it was the first to come to mind.
2. I can remember where some phrases are on the pages of a pages of a book are etc., but I’m not sure if that counts as having a photographic memory or not.
1) Hm… I’m not really sure. I think I just wanted a different name from the one I started with, and I thought of this one.
2) Er… I don’t know. Not really.
It’s a combination of Rainbow*Star and Silverstorm, two names I couldn’t decide between. And it just sounds cool. And I like the contrast between rainbows and storms.
1) Have you ever heard the expression “the cat’s meow”? It’s apparently from the 20’s, but I didn’t know what until I just Googled it. Anyways, I think my brain was thinking somewhere along those lines when I came back and decided to pick a completely new name from the one I’d posted with about three times.
2) I’m not sure. I have a pretty darn good memory when I actually try to remember something, and like other people have mentioned I can remember where phrases are in books and what my notes look like. But I’m bad at those images where you’re supposed to look at it for a while and then answer some questions about it from memory. I always focus on certain things, which I’ll likely remember, but then I don’t pay attention to the number of spots on the dog, or whatever.
I like kiwis.
Nope.
47- Elk and lamb hearts. Delicious.
48- 1) Ducky was my nickname before I even had ducks. 2) I don’t think so.
Oh, and I’ve shot a couple of squirrels. Didn’t eat them, though. Too many fleas.
48- 1) It all started when Cskia invited me to MuseBlog. I thought it was awesome, but wasn’t sure what to call myself. I wanted my name to end in 101, a tradition that started with an online strategy game. I thought at first to call myself Weirdo 101 or Weirdosity 101, but I felt that they just weren’t right. Because of a game that I played with Cskia, and how bad I was at it, en thought of Telepathy Failure 101, which I liked, but I thought there could be something better. I ended up choosing my name because I like being random. And I liked the sound of it.
What is your least favorite Harry Potter book? I think mine’s the seventh.
NO.
That’s a lie. The seventh is the best.
I didn’t like GoF. I think I don’t like it because the movie was pretty horrible.
That’s my favorite.
Mine too! My least favorite was probably the first, only because it was really detached from the rest of the story. It was still great, though.
I think the sixth. Not that it doesn’t have it’s good points, but I don’t like it as much as some of the others.
The second, because it gave me nightmares.
The fifth was the only one that really scared me. I read it in fourth grade, right after reading the fourth one, and the part at the start with the dementors scared me so much that I didn’t open them again for 3+ years.
The third.
Ahoy! Are you “ginerkid” or “gingerkid”? Just curious.
Oh, goodness. I apologize. It’s “gingerkid”. Was in a hurry, and typed in the wrong thing. I was at my town’s public Library, and had to rush. But thank you for inquiring. Pardon my fault.
Er…neither. Wrong reply, I suppose?
The second. I couldn’t sleep for about a month after reading it, and still have a lingering irrational fear of bathrooms.
I don’t like the second one. The Basilisk gives me the creeps and I don’t like the plot that much.
fifth. Harry’s too bipolar in that one. lol
48- My name came from the “trust snape” bumper stickers. I don’t know who I would trust more, Snape or koko. As for memory, I have a good one but not a photographic one.
Which is worse, mental pain or physical pain?
I would trust Snape.
48 – MB name: I have absolutely no idea. It just came to me suddenly. I like it, though.
Photographic memory: I couldn’t look at a book and memorize every word on the page, but I can remember things like where things are in a room, sort of like Fireh, I guess.
HP: I would have to say the 3rd, but only because it’s the one I’ve read the most so it’s the one I wouldn’t choose to read if I had all seven with me. I don’t know, though. I love all of them.
I would trust Snape. At least he’s hotter.
I guess mental pain is worse. It depends what type of physical pain.
Snape is WAY hotter.
Hm… proabably mental pain that is also physical.
Mental. I can deal with physical, I usually just ignore it.
So what would being crucio-ed count as? It’s not really physical, because there are no marks… Does the curse work on your brain? Or on your nerves? Or does it really hurt you, but cover it up?
46- Yes, I do that all of the time, sometimes I just say the syllables and sometimes I spell the words out.
47- Frog legs caught and cooked by my uncle. They were barbecued frog legs to be exact. (:
48- name- I started out on chatterbox and experimented with names there. I wanted to have night in my name and so I tried Nitelite but didn’t like that. I then-for some reason that I have forgotten-added hawk to my name. After Nitelite it was Nitehawlk but I didn’t like the misspelling of hawk, so I changed it to Nitehawk. Eventually I got tired of the misspelling of nite and changed it to Nighthawk.
Who would win in a fight?
A) A ninja
B) A pirate
C) A left sock
With weapons or unarmed?
You decide.
I’m going to say a ninja if they don’t have weapons, and a pirate if they’re armed.
Could we add an HPB to the list?
I was trying to use one of the popular rivalries, ninjas v.s. pirates. (Which historically makes no sense, ninjas were rebel farmers in Japan and a pirate was absolutely anyone who robbed at sea. Some were funded by royalty!) And add a left sock. I will make a poll with HPBs in the future, though.
Contrary to common belief, ninja were actually a kind of Samurai. (Mythbusters lied to us!) They were usually made from the lower class however, trained as spies, and the other samurai did despise them.
Yes, the ninja were historically lower-class people hired as spies in Samurai wars rather than people born into the Samurai class. (Because sneaking around like that was beneath them.)
How do you distinguish the left sock from a right sock?
A left sock believes that social welfare programmes should be expanded.
The left sock. No one suspects it.
It’s a trick question. The Left sock is a ninja in disguise who is a pirate on the side for the gold.
Argh! You caught me!
Well, a ninja. Because everyone knows that ninjas are way better than pirates.
See, you can compare pirates and ninjas to the Spanish armada and the English fleet during the Battle of Gravelines in 1588. Ninjas are faster and more agile, whereas pirates, though they may be larger, are less skilled, and quite frankly, drunk. So ninjas always win.
54- A ninja. Left sock would come in second though.
54-The ninja would put on the left sock and repeatedly kick the pirate, thus adding to the pirate’s already aching head.
Who would win in a fight:
1) an HPB
2) Mr. Joe (assume he had both will and intelligence enough to fight)
3) A hot-pink left sock
4) a hot-pink bunyip.
1) An hbp with a hot-pink left sock on.
5) The Ninja.
There is no more ninja. The ninja from the previous poll got baked into the cake, which isn’t a lie, your reception of it is. So there is no more ninja.
Then in that case:
6) Sweeney Todd. He gives all participants a free shave, the closest he ever gave.
Question!
If you could choose, would you have (fully functioning) metal bat wings or metal bird wings?
Metal bird wings.
Bat wings, definitely.
If you could choose any natural hair color, what would it be? And what texture? How many people would choose their own hair?
Either smooth, super long, bright blue hair, or silky black hair. I hate blonde, and all the jokes that come with it. *humph*
A dark metallic blue, somewhat wavy, and feels like it actually is made of metal, and cold all the time.
It would be two or three shades lighter blonde than my current hair, and much more smooth.
Same color as my hair is now, except wavy.
It would be less thick than my hair is now and a bit lighter.
The kind of shade of blue you get from Jolly Ranchers that claim they’re raspberry-flavoured. (One wonders what kind of raspberry is blue.) And it would be really smooth and soft and fine and really straight.
-58 Bat wings
If you had to build your house out of one of these materials, which one would you choose:
A) Gummy Bears
B) HPB Skins
C) Chocolate
E) Left Socks
(Yes, I know this is utterly ridiculous. It’s supposed to be.)
Left socks.
HPB skins, most definitely.
“Save a Planet: Use Hot Pink Skins, a perfectly insulating material. As an added bonus, it will keep insects away!”
Chocolate.
-60, I chose D. But wherever did that answer go?
If I can’t choose D, Then I choose C. A nice little foot by foot house of chocolate sounds quite appetizing.
You have enough money to buy one comic book. Do you purchase:
A) a collection of Get Fuzzy,
B) a collection of Pearls Before Swine,
or C) The boring one that has a left sock on the cover.
C) What can I say? I like left socks.
A)
Unless Calvin and Hobbes is a choice…
B
I’ve never really liked Get Fuzzy.
Oops! The Left Sock option was supposed to be D.
C) Maybe a comic book I’ve never seen before could actually hold my interest, unlike any I actually have seen.
59- Curly and ginger.
60- Chocolate. I’d eat it, though.
What’s your favorite time signature?
Mine is 6/8. On an unrelated note, we’re doing a field show to a piece in 5/4. I can’t march to 4/4 in a straight line. Jeez.
You’re marching in 5/4 too? Oh my goodness, my band isn’t the only crazy one! It’s at the beginning of the third movement, and we’re marching it as dottedquarter/dottedquarter/quarter/quarter (which is how the melody goes). It’s better than what my band director initially wanted to do, which was march half notes (which doesn’t work, at all) but it’s still a little weird. What’s your show based on?
My favorite time signature is probably 6/8 as well. Or maybe 7/8; we played a piece in band last year called Slava! that had a really fun middle section in 7/8.
We’re just marching to each quarter note, so our leading foot changes every measure. Often, if we’re marching the right way, we end up with a foot sticking out. But it’s Mission: Impossible, so the tune is easy to pick up on and easy to play. In the opening set, we’re a bomb, then the color guard light us on fire, and we explode.
I’m listening to a Japanese elementary school band playing Slava! right now. It’s scary, these kids are like, five, and they’re better than our Wind Ensemble. But it’s an awesome song.
Oh, that’s pretty cool! Yeah, marching quarter notes is the most logical way to do it but doesn’t really work for our show, since the melody doesn’t divide up that way. That sounds like a pretty awesome show!
Is the elementary school playing Slava! back up? That was an incredible video. They were better than us, too! My favorite band piece we’ve ever played is Mannin Veen.
59- Black, long, straight, and silky.
62- 3/4
Just feel like going through and answering some questions on this thread that I haven’t….
48 – 1) My name was originally soccer starr, the only reason was because I like soccer (duh) and needed a noun at the end of it, so star came to mind. To make it more unique I added another “r” at the end of starr. Eventually I just shortened it to starr when I went through a “I don’t like soccer so much” phase and had a really bad experience on a team.
2) Sort of. When we’re studying something in school, often I can remember where on a page (top, bottom, left, right) the answer is found, but not what the answer is. (Yes, this presents an obvious problem…)
54 – NINJA POWA, I don’t care if it’s a trick question.
58 – Metal bird wings.
59 – I would basically choose my own hair only a tiny bit lighter in color (it’s black…well, very dark brown) but otherwise I like it.
25 – 1) I’m not sure. I agree with Enceladus that it would make the Master happy but not the Daleks, but the Master would probably give people more drawn-out and painful deaths for his amusement.
2) The Red Queen. As I remember, she wasn’t evil, just cold and calculating. Although if the King of Hearts would also come with the Queen, I’d choose her, as the King pardoned everyone she condemned.
48 – 1)The scientific name for the spotted salamander.
2) A little. I can remember specific images if I try to, and can often remember where on the page in a book a particular scene takes place.
58 – Metal bird wings. If they weren’t metal I might go for the bat wings, though.
46 – I’m worse. I often spell it out IN SIGN LANGUAGE. Sometimes in my head, and sometimes actually with my fingers.
But yes, either way, I end up spelling it out. And some Spanish words really should exist in English. I want there to be an English equivalent of conocer, for example, because there are some sentences where I’d rather “to know” started with a c.
A Spanish word that should exist in English: entrepernar. Its meaning: to put one’s legs between those of another. Its reason for existence: I haven’t the faintest idea.
If you can only choose one of these, would you choose:
A) A three pound bag of tan M&Ms,
B) A half pound milk chocolate bar shaped like a left sock,
C) A half pound white chocolate bar shaped like a left sock,
or D) A half pound dark chocolate bar shaped like a left sock.
Dark chocolate. Quality over quantity. (And they’d all stick together and be gross.)
C, please. I love white “chocolate”.
A). What can I say? I like M&Ms.
Oh goodness, is this even a question? Dark chocolate, always, for everything.
Dark chocolate. I’m allergic to the others, so that really isn’t a question at all…
What’s the scariest place you’ve been recently?
For me, it’s the starting line at an XC meet just before the gun.
The dark sidewalk between my dorm and the library. There is a snowmobile at the end of the path that looks like a dark, cloaked, menacing being…. Fifteen minutes ago.
A completely empty hallway, well lit, with nobody visible through any of the windows, and completely silent except for my footsteps.
I love it when I can go to my locker during a study.
A darker sidestreet in the city with its own special thugs at the corner and I was completely lost. It was dark and cold and I was late.
Who would you rather kill in your NaNo,
a) the sweet but admittedly not contributing to the novel (If you didn’t have her in there, it would only change a bit) character or
b) the annoying,bossy character, but you would have to make your main character be a leader, when you want her to be weaker because she’s too powerful, and at least she’s now pretty quiet?
a) And then let the bossy girl and the leader try to blame each other, spilt them up into different groups and let them fight for a while, then let the main character lose and crawl back, then let the bossy character be overconfident and get ensself killed and then let the main character struggle to keep a lid on the people who object to her being the leader and let her desperately try to reunite the group, which doesn’t work so well and one of bossy person’s minions runs amok and kills a third person (if the group is too small for this, make it an innocent bystander) and then leaves the group with a second person (possibly even a former follower of the main character) , the third bossy person minion joins main character and the remaining now tight-knit group fights the ones that went bad + do whatever they were doing before this.
No, I’m not morbid and never overcomplicate things. You know me
What are the top five usernames you would use on MB if you couldn’t use the one you have?
For me:
1) Baikonur Jedi
2) TierOneGirl
3) Amarna Heretic
4) TranquilityGirl
5) Horizoneer
1.Endless Silver Sky
2.Sora
3.The Lovely Lunatic
4.Aislynn
5.Mizuki
Interesting…
1) Idyllic madness
2) Non sequiter
3) Sequiter
4) Flim- Flam!
5) Beret Guy
As you like, but I should point out (before one of our resident Latinists does) that the Romans spelled it “sequitur.”
The Romans did, yes–as do English-speakers. “Non sequitur” is a rather established phrase in our language.
Ah, that would be a better name. Thank you!
1) Violet Sky(e)
2) Bekahira
3) Möwe
4) Pooka
5) skybluebunny
1- from a mika song, 2- a nickname I made up for my NaNo fanfic, 3- german for seagull, 4- a celtic spirit, 5- my gravatar username that I considered because people would know if from when the blog crashed, but many of those people aren’t around anymore and the others probably won’t remember. It sounded a lot better when I was 13.
How could I ever destroy my name-bond with Meow? *gasps in horror* Hmm. I guess…
1) bookbook
2) Dr. Chili Pepper
3) Dreamweb
4) ZeppelinCaptain
5) Poppies
1) Roxxy
2) Shiny Zangoose of DEATH
3) Clawz
4) Purple Gloves
5)My Soul has been Eaten
I had some good ones, but I forgot them now.
What is the first word, image or scene that comes to mind when you hear this word:
Wonder
(A starry night sky, with smoke from the last embers of a campfire rising up. The sky a very dark, nearly black purple, and the sound of a single panpipe playing. The smell of the aforementioned campfire, smoky, but only somewhat there. )
White clouds, sparkly and bright agaist a deep blue sky; the feeling of soaring above the clouds; a burnt orange sky, with twin suns shining in the distance. Uplifting heart.
Also a starry night sky, but viewed through a door that’s suddenly been flung open by a small child who looks on, speechlessly.
I–there’s not a single image or scene or idea that appears first. The entirety of nature rushes into my imagination. The night sky, with nebulae bursting like fireworks against the black. A pure green woods, the wind breathing through silky leaves. A stone tower stretching past the flora towards the sky above. The smell of pine against a lucid wind. A dripping cathedral of rock plastered with starfish. Silence under snow. Wet sand. A mossy boulder. A fern. Air.
Amazement, awe, beauty. *is in noveling-semidysfunctional thesaurus mode*
SFTPD: Te next thing that I think of is the ocean.
A sunset with pink and orange colored clouds.
And superheros.
a sunrise.
A little girl (my past self?) tiptoeing through a field of flowers.
In a spaceship, looking out at all the stars twinkling different colors. Also, over the whole thing is one arm of a galaxy.
The sky, but as seen from the western states without all these trees. Just a giant dome of sky.
A Disney princess.
This is not ironic. This is true.
67- White “chocolate.” I love it so.
68- My mind.
70- 1) Telepathy Failure 101
2) Obsession 101
3) The Pedantic Bibliophile
4) Cheese ADDICT
5) Gylfie 101
(There’s an interesting story behind the first one; ask Cskia if you want to know, or me if she doesn’t remember. The last one is for if I had run out of ideas and decided to go with my personal tradition for non-RPG sites.)
70: I don’t think I have any… I never really gave much thought to it at all. I go by Bibliophile on every site but two, and it was the first to occur to me–except the one I go on on two other sites, Ima, which I don’t like at all, but thought up years ago and never bothered changing for some reason… And I have no idea what I’d go by if I weren’t Bibliophile. I’d have to think about it for a while.
71: I start, well, wondering things–except that I don’t. I get into an inquisitive mood, but no questions spring to mind–I just have the feeling I normally associate with curiosity. I seem to be thinking of a different sense of the word ‘wonder’ than everyone else…
Does anyone else just sort of feel colours in music? For instance, at band practice today, it was like there were colours in the music, and I could feel them, but it was like they were just out of reach and I couldn’t quite tell what the colours were.
Not really, but I hear shapes.
I do too, sometimes, but more like graphs or functions. Beethoven give me headaches because it’s pointy and then square where it’s supposed to be round, etc, etc. I dunno, this sort of thing only happens when I listen to classical music, which is probably why I don’t like it much. The pointy-ness gives me headaches and the square-ish parts bore me or annoy me. Some pointy-ness is okay, if it flows right (like the Radtzky March) , and the Blue Danube waltz is beautiful, like little ripples even though it’s almost square at times but without the edges and the square bits aren’t long. My mom can sort of do this too, I think, but it makes her love classical music instead. Anything non-classical never has caused anything like this, which is nice. Still, I think it has more to do with the highs and lows of the music than actual synthesia, the rise and fall of the music.
Not feel… I don’t quite know how to describe it. If I’m listening to classical (Mendelssohn, yum. ) and close my eyes, I see sharp lines forming on black. It’s not really clear; I can’t grasp them. They’re so fleeting.
I meant angular, not sharp. They’re like jagged lines that you would draw when fooling around with a pen. And then even more vague are these… things. I know they’re there, but they’re so faint I can’t even tell what they are. They move with the music. they’re like… blurs of light, almost?
Sort of.
For all my favorite pieces of music, I can feel a palette of colors. For example, Eric Whitacre’s piece “October” (Which everyone should look up!) gives me gradient ranging from a soft honey orange yellow to a dead leaf brown. However, his piece “Lux Aurumque” gives me a palette of white to a very light gray. There aren’t any specific colors, just general feelings of them. I don’t see them, so it’s probably not Synesthesia.
The same things with some really good books- I imagine a palette of colors which are most of the colors I picture. For example, I picture 1984 as being essentially black and white, and the people just pale, nearly specters. Harry Potter books are a dark yellow grey, with regal, muted though bright tones.
*rambles*
Well, if you asked me to draw a painting based on a song; a faster song would be bright, so on and so on…but that’s not really the same.
Yes, definitely. I can feel colors and shapes in music, albeit a bit vaguely. In orchestra, particularly if I know what notes are being played, different notes will have different colors. For example, E’s are green, A’s are yellow, and D’s are blue. They’re all the same colors as I imagine the letters to be unrelated to music (though I don’t actually see things as written in them), and the deeper the note, the darker the color. I know I see shapes, but I can’t really describe them or picture them well, but high notes have clear, defined edges and are narrow, but deeper notes are blurry, sort of like oil pastel on paper, and wider. I can picture violin and viola music well, cellos a bit less clearly, but basses’ music is so dark and blurry it just looks like a big blob of gray-brown, which is probably why I don’t like basses much. Pizzicato, and other “beep”-ish noises are easier to distinguish. I also feel images of non music sounds.
Only when the music has no lyrics. When music has lyrics, I automatically envision what they’re talking about.
For some reason, the whole ‘feeling colors but not quite being able to see them’ things occurs with people for me as well as non-lyrical music…
While we’re on the subject of music, does anyone sing harmonies to songs when they sing to them? I do, sometimes. Of course, my voice occupies “that strange half-world between being able to sing and not being able to sing where I’m not quite sure if I can sing or not and no one will tell me if I can or not”, (:lol:) so I’m pretty sure it doesn’t sound that great, but it’s fun. Today, I sang “Your Guardian Angel” by The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus with “Underwater Waltz” by Ben’s Imaginary Band, and they sounded perfect together.
By singing harmonies, do you mean also singing what the backups sing, in addition to the main singer?
I tend to sing descants to things. If there isn’t one there, I sing it anyway.
What are some unusual places you’ve learned things?
I learned what phosphorescence was from Scooby-Doo. (The episode with the glowing hard-hat diver)
I learned the meaning of the word “telekinesis” from Pokemon.
I first saw the B-2 Spirit bomber in a book about UFOs that I got from the library.
I learned how to spell “Opportunity” correctly by writing about the Mars rover so much.
I learned how to spell ‘coelacanth’ from writing about yours on the Embi thread.
Would you rather have an inferiority complex or a superiority complex and why?
A superiority complex, because I’d always be depressed if I had an inferiority complex.
Kai – Most of my “adult vocabulary” was learned from the Harry Potter series.
A superiority complex. If I had an inferiority complex I would be, obviously, terribly insecure and depressed. If I had a superiority complex everyone would hate me but they’d be too beneath me to matter!
Favorite type of undead- zombies, vampires, ghosts, or other?
Other-Lich
Other, if banshees count as undead. If not, zombies.
Other- the dead from the Garth Nix universe. They’re sort of a cross between vampires and zombies approaching mankind but going south in the last instant.
77: Superiority complex because it wouldn’t be as much of a change (I might have one already; I can’t really tell) as the former, and I don’t otherwise have a preference.
78: I’m reall not sure. Ghosts, maybe?
Wonder – Looking up at the sky, open-mouthed.
My name came from a combination of Kokopelli and nillybuckbuck, Kokopelli being obvious and nillybuckbuck being an idiotic genius (y’know, someone who can do calculus but thinks that 3 squared is 3 – true story).
Semi-photographic. I am very absent-minded but I know where words are on a page. For example, in my edition of Hamlet the “to be or not to be” soliloquy starts on the left-hand page, about 2/3 of the way down.
On my walls? Posters from Science Olympiad nationals tournament, a couple periodic tables, light blue paint, and a random square of duct tape. Also, a poster from a puzzle I never finished showing how to complete it. It was about different palaces in London, and also how I learned King Henry VIII’s six wives.
Superiority complex, please.
I learned “obtain” and “telekinesis” from Pokemon…
I don’t know what I could possibly be but Kokonilly. I always use Kokonilly; it’s actually part of my identity now.
Wow, this is disastrously out of order and cobbled together. Ah well.
Oh, if banshees count as undead, they’re my favorite type as well.
My memory isn’t photographic, but it is visual. It’s just like Randomosity’s except that mine is blurry, like a Monet painting. My mind will be focused on one part of the memory, and that will be clear enough, but the rest is fuzzy. I’m really bad at finding words on a page, though, because I’m not even truly thinking about what they look like; I’m automatically envisioning the meaning. It isn’t just my memory and reading process, either; I think in blurry images and videos.
Technically banshees are harbingers of death, not undead themselves. They’re of the SÃdhe, a fairy-like folk in Gaelic mythology. SÃdhe actually means “the mounds,” and “bean sÃdhe” is a woman of the mounds.
What does everyone’s avatar mean? Mine’s a tardigrade from the genus Echiniscus.
Tudor rose.
Mine is a flying Kangaskhan that I drew. Kangaskhan is a Pokemon. Normally it does not fly, nor does it have wings. However, in Pokemon Red and Blue, the glitch Pokemon ‘M can learn Fly. And it can evolve into Kangaskhan. So you can get yourself a Kangaskhan with Fly. Sadly, that does not mean it actually has wings.
It can learn Fly? Isn’t Sky Attack the only Flying-type move it can learn?
By level-up, yes. But it can learn Fly by HM.
Just take three guesses to what mine is then I’ll tell you.
I’ll give you three hints:
1. It’s a campaign button.
2. It has kokopelli on it.
3. It has the words, “Kokopelli for president” on it.
Boy, that’s a tough one.
Mine is a screenshot from the game Eversion. CREEPIEST GAME EVER
THAT’S what it was! I knew it looked familiar!
YES, BUT THAT’S PART OF THE REASON IT IS SO INCREDIBLY CAKING AWESOME!!!!
Of course.
If you think Eversion is awesome, then go look up EverymanHYBRID on YouTube. Start from the oldest video, and watch up until the most recent.
*hides in a corner in fear*
Or watch the DiseasedCrab Blind Walkthrough.
I don’t know, I just liked it. I think I was just searching flowers. I don’t want to change it, because I think it’s distinctive.
It is distinctive, and pretty.
I have never changed my gravatar (nor blogname for that matter)!
SFTDP (Because this is technically a double post), but my avatar is a picture of my favorite pokemon ever next to the silhoutte of a zombie. This accurately portrays two of my longest-standing obbsessions. Though, I really should change it to incorporate science as well…
Mine is some kind of weird face-thing.
I chose mine to go with Radiant_Darkness. The blackness almost seems to give off the light.
It’s John C. Calhoun. I don’t pretend to have any real reason other than the fact that it’s John C. Calhoun.
Mine is a tesseract.
What? How does that relate to your name at all? Crazy people…
It was just a whim–either that or the platypus. I chose the unrelated one.
It is so weird to see “tesseract” in all lowercase…
Mine is from John William Waterhouse’s painting The Lady of Shalott, chosen because 1) I really like his paintings and 2) I love the Tennyson poem of the same name.
Mine’s Death from The Sandman. I drew the picture.
Mine is Romola Garai in the newest BBC adaptation of Emma.
Mine’s a part of a picture I found by googling ‘error’, and I added the ‘oops’ myself. I thought it sort of went with my name, and I haven’t changed it because it’s fairly distinctive and hopefully mildly amusing.
Mine’s the TARDIS, but most of y’all probably know that……And it doesn’t really *mean* anything, except that I’m a Doctor Who fan…. ((Totally thinking about that scene between the Ninth Doctor and Charles Dickens. ))
Mine’s a painting of the USS Constitution, the world’s oldest floating commissioned navy vessel. I chose it during the RRR SMAS-TT, I think, so I was into War of 1812-era history.
The Constitution’s celebrating her 214th birthday this October, by the way.
Mine… eh, long story. Sometime around November ’09, I found a cute brunette manga figure that I used as gravatar, with both my eye color and approx. hair-lenght, holding a rose. I thought it was cute and sort of symbolic and used it as avatar. I though of using it again, but somehow it just portrays what I wanted to be like at 14 (hint: nicer, more social, possible R&R). So I found a new picture, that seems a little more grown up but still out there, wild hair but still pretty & serene. Neither of them look like me facially, obviously, but I still like them.
82 (Bibliophile)~ My current avatar is a picture that I took last April on the whole Tom’s “day without shoes” thing, which I participated in, mostly because I like going barefoot. But yeah, it’s my feet and s swishy skirt.
I thought it was a line dancer.
I wasn’t sure what kind of dancer it was, but I was sure it was a dancer as well.
It is a dancer. Her name is Midnight Fiddler.
Oh… I thought it was a face… I may need glasses.
Oh.. I thought that the dark-blue part was a dancer’s head, the red part was some kind of cape, and the light blue part was ens legs.
Replies to 83 (P_M, Bibliophile, Piggy)~
Piggy is too kind, I’m nowhere near graceful enough to be considered a dancer, though I do enjoy contras.
The picture was taken wit photobooth (my computer was on the floor) and I was doing a steppy sort of thing, to look dancery. Apparently I succeeded.
How did everyone choose their blog names? (I think this question has been asked before…oh well. :P)
Well…
I was originally captain_cynomys, because Cynomys is the genus name for the prairie dog, which was my favorite animal at the time. I changed it to Prarilius Canix shortly after the Pie War to distance myself from my noobishness (I was a big fan of the Edge Chronicles at the time, so I gave myself a name in its style). I don’t remember why I created Sir Ozlips, my first alter ego, but I do remember that Ozlips was the name of a minor character in the Akiko series by Mark Crilley. My second alter ego was created for the Pieceful Pie Planet; his name was Oob, which was basically a random silly-sounding syllable. Switching between alter egos eventually got tiresome, so I decided to turn my names into an acronym; Prarilius Oob Sir Ozlips Canix, or POSOC for short. With the exception of minor variations, I’ve been POSOC ever since.
I thought it sounded cool, pure and simple. I don’t remember where I got the idea, but I’m glad I did. Errata has become my name in a way that other usernames haven’t.
I occasionally regret that I didn’t chose something that I made up, so it would be free on other sites, but ah well. Can’t have everything, I suppose.
I like chocolate oranges and Kokopelli52 sounded a bit too juvenile.
SFTDP: I had a brief flirtation with ‘Orophin,’ but I kept spelling it wrong.
How did you pick yours, Selenium?
Well, to be completely honest with you – I really have no idea. I think it just came to me…randomly. No obvious reasons other than I think Selenium sounds cool and Quafflebird…a Chaser influence? No idea why bird though. My mind works in mysterious ways. But anyway, I rather like it, so I don’t plan on changing it.
Wait a minute, you used to be Kokopelli52? No wonder you just seemed to appear out of nowhere.
I was looking around, and saw a Scientific American (Sorry, Robert, we don’t get Science) and it was about the moons of Saturn, with Enceladus pictured on the cover.
I’m considering a name change, though. Vote!
1. Lux
2. Radiance (Might be somewhat confusing, seeing as we also have Radiant_Darkness)
3. Lux Perpetua
4. DONT CHANGE YOUR NAME YOU CRAZY PERSON
Option 4!
Don’t change your name, you crazy person! Option 4!
Option 4.
4!
Four.
I’m so used to Enceladus and I really like it, so four! Although the other options sound cool, too.
Four
Four. Fourfourfourfourfourfour.
Completely, utterly 4. I cannot imagine your avatar next to the name Lux.
Well, I think I have my answer now.
4
Option Four!
Four. Although it would be funny if you changed it to one of the others and someone thought you were a girl.
In eighth grade, my friend and I had to do a math project on any topic of our choosing (my math teacher was a big fan of barely-related-to-math projects) and we chose theoretical physics. The project involved a lot of watching of Flatland and imprompteau discussions, often in the middle of the hallway, of directions which we cannot see. We both found it tremendously interesting, although I feel like the class wasn’t able to follow our presentation too well… Oops. Anyway, during that time I learned that a tesseract is a four-dimensional cube, and spent a while messing around on sites that allow you to manipulate a projection of a tesseract.
Four months into the phase, at the beginning of 9th grade, I joined MuseBlog, and it seemed like a decent name. I think I had it noncaptialized for about three days before capitalizing it to Tesseract, which was my only name “change” to date!
Well, first of all I want everyone to appreciate the gargantuan amount of thought that went into my name- kidding. Let me explain: when I was twelve, my family got our first internet modem and I actually had continuous access to the internet (outside of brief use of it at school for projects and some stolen time on *site*) for the first time in my life. I made an account at *site*. I had no idea what usernames were supposed to look like back then, but based on a few examples, I settled on “bookgirl”. But that name was taken. Suggestions ran along the lines of bookgirl_97, bookgirl_13, etc… I didn’t want a number, so I went with bookgirl_me instead.
Then I had no more internet for half a year and didn’t miss it much and then I found MB. I’d already thought of a username before, I figured, so I unceremoniously typed “bookgirl_me” in the “Name” space and posted.
I considered changing my name several times, since it a) was a pain in RPGs where MBers acted as characters and b) it seemed a little immature. But by the time I decided to change my name after all, the “who’s posted how much” thingy came out and I reconsidered. Besides, I basically had a chance to try out a new name when MB1 went down and I posted on MA logged into my gravatar account, namely skybluebunny (the opposite of s). I got tired of that name too, eventually, so I figured if I did change my name, I’d just keep changing it every few months or so and never be happy with it. So I stuck with bookgirl_me (though Violet Sky(e) still tempts me sometimes).
I started out as soccer starr because at the time I discovered MB, I was more involved in soccer than I am now and I honestly have no idea where the star came from, it just sort of popped into my brain when I was first commenting. (Actually, I’m pretty sure I started out as crazyreader101 or something along those lines, but when I realized that MB is not really as chat-roomy than I originally thought, I felt that soccer starr was more appropriate.) Soccer starr was shortened to starr, and I’m happy with it.
A question for which I have no answer. I don’t remember how I came up with this, but I like it.
I already went by Bibliophile on a couple of different sites because I am one, and I like the sound of it, and it was the first thing that popped into my head, so I went by that here, too. If I were to go by anything different, it would be Xenomorphida, but I like my name and don’t need to change it.
85.4: I like the name you have, but if you really want to change it, I like Lux Perpetua the best of the other options.
I started out as Princess Aqua, which was a friend’s nickname/alter ego at the time. Then after deciding that it wasn’t me, I switched to Midnight*Fiddler because I play fiddle and am a night owl and it generally made more sense then Princess Aqua. The * was to be like a star in the night sky, I think. Which I liked, but then one time I forgot to do it (because I was using the library computers at this point) and decided to drop it permanently, and I’ve been referred to as MF or Fiddler ever since. I believe Alice was the first to call me Fiddler as an abbreviation, and I must say that I prefer it over MF. It seems to have become the norm now, which is nice.
My gravatar account sometimes messes up my posts by singing me in as “bemusedmuser.”
All this begs the question, if you have a longish MB name, what do you prefer to be referred to as? (Eg. Tesseract/Tess, Enceladus/Enc, Choklit Orange/CO, etc.)
Well, Selenium is a rather shorter name than ‘Selenium the Quafflebird’, and I think that’s what most people would refer to me as, but I know quite a few people know me as ‘Sel’ also. Selenium works; Sel also works. It’s up to you.
Or “Leni”?
I don’t recall seeing that one before, but it’s cool. Sure, why not?
Or “Quaffy”? Though that may sound too much like what New Yorkers drink with their breakfast.
You mean people really call it that? I thought that was just from a story whose title I can’t remember that took place in outer space (The rhyme was unintended.) in a story called Nad And Dan Adn Quaffy… Apparently, I was wrong.
I’ve heard Selen as well. What about Se? It’s rather short, but it is your atomic symbol.
I suspect “Sel” or “Selly” will wind up having the most staying power.
I’ve never actually heard Selly before…
Those with strong accents, yes.
Oh, I read that story! I think…
I’m Kai. Not KY. KY is Kentucky.
People usually end up calling me vanilla or vanillapi.
Maggie, Princess M, Magnolia, but not P_M.
RD, R_D, Radiant; anything is fine. Although I realized a while ago that the first three letters of Radiant and the first three letters of Darkness combine to form radar (if you combine d’s). I think that’s cool.
Fiddler said it: I’m Tess. I can’t think of any other way to nickname Tesseract, honestly, but that’s okay because I happen to like Tess.
I’ve always thought of you as MidFid.
Well, I don’t really have a preference. Choklit Orange is a bit of a mouthful (keyboardful, I suppose) so CO works. Then again, that sounds kind of like an abbreviation for “Corporation” or “Company,” so I would favor Choklit.
Okay, so I do have a preference.
A friend once saw my blogname and has called me Citruspeel ever since.
I don’t think Optimatum is really long enough to need to be shortened, but Opti is also fine.
Or “Op”?
Lil’BK or LBK, of course.
And “singing me in”. Another cool-ish typo.
If I made a new account on this site it would be as curiosity. But I was posting here before I started using that as my default username and so I’ll stick with this.
I saw somebody on a different site named Optimatus and it sounded interesting.
Nice name choice, Optimatum.
In Latin, your name means, the best, noblest, and aristocratic.
It sounds like it’s probably related to optimum, then.
I don’t really have a preference as to what I go by. Any version of my name will do except for a few that no-one would use anyway like Ophe, Bib, and Bible. I’ve been called Bibliophile and Biblio, both of which I like.
In Spanish, “biblioteca” means library.
Do you like books, by any chance?
A bibliophile is by definition “a person who collects or has a great love of books.” So yes, I think it would be safe to assume that Bibliophile likes books.
Yes, I love them. Luna’s right. Bibliotheca actually means library in English (presumably related to the Spanish word), and it’s really fun to use. Also, a bibliomaniac is a book collector.
Biblio______ = Book_______
Almost.
Also bible, bibliography. I think it has a Greek origin.
My name seems a bit…ordinary, but hey, I like it, and at the very least it’s longer than Mango, which is what I previously went by. Again, option 4: I know you by Enceladus and I don’t want to have to reorganize my thoughts!!
My name is fairly short, but I like being called Meow as well. That nickname seems to be sticking lately.
I’m usually called KA, sometimes Koko, and random other stuff. I don’t really care what you call me, as long as I’ll recognize it *shrugs*
This is the first time I have ever had my username as “ Neptune “, so I am not used to being called it.
I don’t know what came over me to name myself this, but whatever it was, I am somewhat grateful.
There was a default picture on my dad’s old laptop of a cat’s eye peering through a mousehole. So on a fanfiction site, I called myself Cat’s Eye Through a Mousehole. Everyone there called me Cat’s Eye, though, so I stuck with just that for MB. I think Cat’s Eye is short enough not to need a nickname, except when I’m being compared with Meow, when I’m Eye.
If I had another name, I’d be Frenchie, Watson, Dr. Chili Pepper, Bookbook, Indigo Sto Helit, or Sue de Nimme. None of them have any reasoning behind them whatsoever.
If you could revive one long-dead thread, what thread would it be?
For me it would be Muse Scouts
Our Reclusive Gardens, definitely.
I think I’d revive the Fractured Fairy Tale. I was very fond of Frank and Araminta.
Ohhh, yes. My mind went right to the RRRs as well. Not certain which I would pick though.
I loved that thread…
Let’s see.
Selenium the Quafflebird – actual, full ‘blog name
Then there’s:
Selenium, Quafflebird, StQ, Sel, Selen, Se, Seleni, Selly, Leni, Quaffy, Quaffles
that I’ve seen somewhere.
Wow. I really am ‘multiple-nicknamed’ (as I think Ducky once said?)
Personally, Se, Selen and Selly are a little weird, maybe because no one’s used them before, but I suppose you can use them if you want. I like Sel – it seems to be the most popular ‘short’ version. All the others work too.
A different sort of poll.
Which should I watch tonight: Howl’s Moving Castle or My Neighbor Totoro? I’ve never watched either.
Howl’s Moving Castle. It’s not much like the book, but it’s sweet and funny and enjoyable with a good dose of environmental activism. The characters in My Neighbor Totoro just kind of annoyed me – to me, it wasn’t as strong as some of his later stuff.
Both, but Howl’s Moving Castle first.
The Muses: Which JKR Houses? It’s a thread, but a closed one. I found it via the random button. Apparently it was for a fanpage project. What was it, by the way? I wasn’t here when the fanpage was, unfortunately; I would have loved to see it. Anyway, I think it would be:
Kokopelli: Slytherin, definitely. He’s obviously cunning, and he certainly has ambition.
Urania: Ravenclaw
Mimi: Slytherin
Chad: Ravenclaw
Aeiou: Ravenclaw
Crraw: Not Ravenclaw or Hufflepuff… Slytherin?
Pwt: Hm. He’s very loyal and hardworking, but his hard work is to achieve his own goals. I think he’d do very well in either Hufflepuff or Slytherin. I think I’ll put him in Hufflepuff, though, just because that includes more than one aspect of him. Anyway, he’s fair, too; he wouldn’t capture Crraw when he was defenseless even though he’d wanted to for years. Yes, I definitely think he’d be in Hufflepuff.
Feather: Hufflepuff, of course!
Bo: Ravenclaw! Many people put him in Hufflepuff on the thread, but I can’t think why; he’s a genius, and have we ever seen him do any work at all?
More importantly, The Muses: Which Muse Academy Houses? I think it would be something like this:
Kokopelli: Baker, of course!
Urania: Coontz, definitely!
Chad: Coontz, without a doubt!
Aeiou: Coontz!
Crraw: Spector
Pwt: …I have no idea. Probably not Coontz… Lasley? No, Spector.
Feather: Spector
Mimi: Spector
Bo: Coontz
But that means that Lasley House gets no Muses! That’s unacceptable! I think I’ll put Mimi there, then.
…Which means my 2 Houses get the most muses! Yay! I promise that wasn’t at all intentional, though.
Which would win in a fight: an HPB or a Dalek? (I think the HPB, because it could simply bunnify the Dalek, but it’s pretty close.)
Bunnified Dalek?
What’s your Meyers-Briggs (MBTI) personality type?
INTP.
ISFJ. (I think I’m fairly evenly split between S and N. I get ISFJ about 70% of the time and INFJ the other 30%, so I tend to go with ISFJ.)
*Myers. I always make that mistake. Curse my knowing people with the surname Meyer.
INFJ.
How do you find out?
Google around for Myers-Briggs personality tests. There’s oodles of them.
INTP. At least it was last time I checked.
OOH SAME AS PIGGY. *random*
…. “Nobody” by Emily Dickinson randomly popped into my head. WHY
“I’m Nobody! Who are you?”
Well yeah, you’re my daughter. It makes sense that we would have similar personalities. (Though that doesn’t always hold true. My father has the exact opposite MBTI type–ESFJ. My mother and sister are both ISTJ.)
Hm. I’m INTP too. Maybe we’re long-lost cousins.
INTJ
Interesting
INTJ. The T is somewhat questionable, though. I do take others’ needs into consideration; I’m just not good at figuring out what they are. This tends to complicate personality tests. When they judge based on what people do, I often get F, but when they judge based on what people are actually good at doing, I always get T.
INTP
Just took the test. ISTP.
INFP. Hmm. I took another one on a different site and got ENFJ or INFJ. Interesting.
INFP.
This is the other KA- INFJ, but I was kind of toying with the answers for a while on the questions involving feeling. I looked up the career’s for an INFJ, and although Web Design has interested me, Counseling is not exactly a career path I am that interested in choosing.
INTP, last time I took the test. There seem to be a lot of us around here.
Yeah, INTP and INTJ are pretty common around the internet. We’re good with computers.
I suppose that refers to latent talent, because I’ve shown no especially spectacular skill with them so far.
Neither have I.
INFJ.
INFP, or ISFP. I’m slightly more INFP.
I’m an INFP.
My F is super-duper strong and my N is pretty strong as well. I near the midpoint between E and I, however, and although I am fairly confident in my Perceiving nature, I am by far the most Judging person in my family at home (Purple Panda is a very strong J, but my dad and brother are 100% P), which makes things difficult for us to stay organized at home.
According to one (rather long and tiring) test I took, I’m 100% introverted, 100% Intuitive, 89% Thinking, and 95% Perceiving.
How exactly is it that you’re “confident” in being P, but you’re “the most Judging person” in your family?
What test did you use?
because “most’ is relative?
I am quite certain that I am P and very much not Judging; however, my home is currently occupied by my brother, my father and me. Both of the boys are 100% Perceiving. Although I am Perceiving, something (probably my strong F) gives me a bit of the organized, J-type characteristics.
That is a most solid INTP brain you’ve got there.
INTJ! Hardcore.
It seems that just about everyone on MuseBlog is introverted. I’m not surprised, but that’s interesting.
Oh, wait, I didn’t see Ducky’s post when I said that.
I’m in a odd place between introverted and extroverted.
Well, then, even if not everyone here is introverted, it doesn’t seem that anyone is quite extroverted.
Honey, where do you live? I consider myself pretty darn extroverted, except with certain people. But that hardly ever happens.
SFTTP, but I just read about the personality types, and I actually think I act more like an INTP. That isn’t right, though; I’m definitely a Judging person, not a Perceiving one. It’s not that INTJ doesn’t fit me, just not quite as much. Well, no personality quiz is perfect.
Ooh, I can pie my post about being an INFJ! I mean, that would be very, very wrong and… can’t control my finger… it’s going to be pied…
That’s the only emoticon I use outside Senseless Stupid Smiley Stories. But I must say I use it rather a lot.
*switches “Senseless” and “Stupid” in your post*
(Sorry, stupid strict-ish saying switching.)
Oops! I invented SSSSs. You’d think I’d know better than to call them SSSSs.
That looked strange in the recent comments bar.
I do my best.
85 (Selenium) (Re: blog names): Like many MBers, it seems, I chose my blog name pretty randomly. I was in 5th grade and in the middle of a project to create a goodbye package with my friends for a classmate, who was going to a new school the next year. She is of Taiwanese descent and loves cartoon hippos. That, my friends, is the origin of Taiwan Hippo Fan.
Poll: What is your preferred blog name abbreviation?
My name doesn’t leave a lot of options, but to be clear, I like THF.
21 (Princess_Magnolia) – I use wooden pencils for drawing, because they allow for a lot of different techniques and textures. For math, especially when we use fractions, I try to use the mechanical ones because they allow lots of little lines in a small space.
Ducky – If pencil sharpeners are mean to you, and you can’t have a knife, you should use sandpaper. It works really well.
I am the middlest of three children. My sister is Purple Panda, 3 years (and 4 months) my elder, and my brother is almost 5 years younger than I.
My gravatar is a sea turtle’s head. I imagine my Patronus/soul is a contemplative sea turtle not unlike this one.
I apologize for the double (triple?) post.
We did that poll a few weeks ago–see comment 87. Or was that in some way unsatisfactory?
You know, I scanned the page for this question, as it is sort of a follow-up to Selenium’s question, but I misinterpreted the conversation following Fiddler’s post 87 as a continuation of Quaffy’s question. My apologies.
*pies for using “Quaffy”*
Specific: Is it worse if you break your leg falling down the stairs because somebody pushed you or because the architect accidentally designed the stairs wrong (with no intention of hurting anybody)?
General: If the same bad result occurs because of malice or because of simple negligence/stupidity, which is worse?
Interesting question… I’d say because of stupidity.
The first one in both cases, because then the malicious person doesn’t have to feel guilty.
Specific: The latter, because it’s likely to happen again, though I wouldn’t blame the architect. Unless the malicious person is in a habit of pushing people down the stairs, which would be worse because it’s just as likely to happen again and for the reasons for my response in
General: Malice because, well, I just value benevolence over intelligence. I’d rather a stupid, kind, virtuous person exist than an evil genius, just on principle.
Malice is always worse than negligence. I am a big believer in that hippie energy stuff, and I would hold very little against the architect. But the Snow Queen that pushed me would leave a mark on my soul and theirs for a long time.
Specific: The second because an architecture problem is more permanent, and will affect more people.
General: Malice, in general. I would say malice for both, but the specific one had the issue of number of people effected. You may want to change your example in the first one so that there isn’t that additional factor if you want better results for the philosophical question itself.
Let’s bump this thread up to 2011, shall we?
