1-If you don’t mind some mild swearing, and like a good faux-horror story, and are okay with slightly *cough* skimpy clothing, then I suggest Von Van Hunter. Or, if you like cute little prima donna ferrets, then try Peach Fuzz (I never really got into that one, but, hey, to each their own.). There’s one other that I can’t think of right now, but if I remember what it is, I’ll let you know.

I’m attempting to find scanlations of Kaze Hikarubut it isn’t working. DX It’s an old series, that’s why. But I do so love the Meiji period pieces. -sigh-
ANIME SERIES I RECOMMEND FOR EVERYONE okay mostly girls but whatever real men watch…HOST CLUB. Ouran Koukou (High School) Host Club. Okay I watched the entire thing this summer and it was so precious. Tamaki my heart. -tear-
1) Naruto.
2) Hikaru no Go.
3) All the cool anime movies (castle in the sky, howl’s moving castle, nausicaa of the valley of the wind)
Marjane Satrapi’s “Persepolis” and “Persepolis II” are both excellent. They’re autobiographical books about the cultural revolution in Iran.
oh, and graphic novels are fr00dy, too.

I recommend Grave of the Fireflies, an anime movie set in Japan during World War Two. It’s very sad, but it is an incredibley good movie. Also Princess Monaroke and Spirited Away , my favorite of Hayou Mizaki’s. (I’m sorry I can’t spell.) Howl’s Moving Castle was okay, but not very true to the book. (Which, by the way, I also recommend, along with its sequel, Castle in the Air. They’re hilarious.)
As for manga series, as said before, it depends on taste. Ruroni Kenshin in a good (semi) realistic choice, though not exactly historical. For fantasy/sci-fi fans, I recommend FullMetal Alchemist. (Argh. I am being deprived of manga. Must…go…to…Borders.)

I’ve always thought of Fullmetal Alchemist as a more action/psudo historical with some fantasy thrown in. Since it’s almost like a German society they live in.

Favorite anime/manga-related sturf and such in no particular order:
-Ranma 1/2 was what got me in to manga, and it pwns you all with its hilarity. Forever shall it be the best gender-swapping martial arts romantic comedy EVAR. Why are you not reading it right now?
-You must read Ouran because it is also absolutely hilarious and involves bishounen parading around making fun of bishounen sterotypes. Also Kyouya is sexy.
-I adore Fushigi Yuugi, but the animation is so much BAD it makes me want to gouge my eyes out with a SPORK. Another bishounen-party manga, but there’s hardly anything wrong with that, now is there?
-Miyazaki pwns j00. And that is all I have to say about that.
-Inuyasha has its faults; I will freely admit it. -coughfivehundredchapterscough- But I love it anyway. However, the anime sucks utterly, despite Kappei’s awesome.
-Penty is slowly and inexplicably becoming a Narutard. Akatsusquee! The dub, however, is awful. Do not listen to Axa’s nasty LIES. >.<
-Rurouni Kenshin, which I mustmustmust catch up on, is absolute LOVE.

I had such lowlowlow expectations for the dub that what resulted was pretty good. I also saw the VAs at Anime Expo and they were al awesome people so nooooo but yesssss. -cries-

What’s the definition of anime and manga? They somewhat confuse me.
My parents banned my 10 year old brother from watching Naruto for two reasons. One, they think there’s too much fighting. Two, it’s usually on when he’s supposed to be getting ready for bed.
57 ~ htat sucks. it is not too violent 4 a ten-year old. i started reading T-rated manga when i was 11, and that’s so bloody. naruto is extremely mild compared to bleach, one piece, some DBZ, and the list goes on and on and on. he should be able to watch it. besides, who needs sleep?

(57) Anime= Japanese animation, manga= Japanese comics. Very straightforward, yes? It must be made in Japan (or at least based in Japan, because sometimes Korean animators draw the actual cels and such but you know what I mean) to be considered anime or manga. There is a good deal of anime influenced programming on America television ex: Avatar, Teen Titans, but they’re not anime. Same goes for manga-esque comics.
Of course, I’m a purist. plz kill me now. D:
Naruto isn’t “violent” until later in the series, as far as I’m concerned. And honestly the only thing I can think of that’s “disturbing” would be the Uchiha massacre which I actually thought was more SPOOKY OH GOD HOLD ME and not really disturbing. I don’t know.
Everything still pales in comparison to the Rurouni Kenshin OVAs. Oh the violence. My friends were like “wat are we watching” but I’m HARD COREEEEEEEE RruroKen fan so it didn’t bother me.

(I will not go into its horribilities because either you don’t care or you already know them.)
