That was great! So this is the first take?

I don’t believe a single male got into this one, but they were there at the kokonvention, peoples! :D

  3. Glassboro says:

2- Hmm. What about those bits with Robert? He doesn’t count?
Great work, you two. Looking forward to the full version, and hoping that I don’t sound/look like too much of an idiot…

  4. Lizzie says:

  5. Red-tailed HAWK says:

3-Well, I meant we weren’t in there, but yes, I guess I should have said boys. But wouldn’t that include Robert too?

  6. Gwendolyn of the Eastern Seas says:

That’s flamablamabulous! You MBers look a lot like I expected, from the little I saw. Robert, you sound way different, though. Far more polite (No offense. I always imagined you as having a frank, somewhat sarcastic voice.). Roseanne, beautiful singing. How long is your hair now? My mom keeps nagging me to get mine cut, and it’s not terribly long at all.

    Have a pie….

    Pie 0
    Squid 0
  7. Glassboro says:

6-I think that I might have counteracted that with new music. I hope that I did…
5- There were only two of us…

  8. Kiki the Great says:

    Wow….

I WANT TO HAVE BEEN THERE SO MUCH THAT I AM CRYING!!!! but i’ve probably met 1/4 of all the people there, so whatev. I’ve met THF/PP, Shadowkat, erm…. that’s it. lol.

  9. Rosanne Spector (Administrator) says:

Gwendolyn (6): That’s Rebecca with the long blond hair singing in the video – not me! I was singing too but was safely off camera, sharing my songsheet with Glassboro’s mom.

  14. Capricious The Great and Terrible (cappy) says:

I just got home!!! And I figured out I CAN HAVE MY PICTURE ON THE INTERNET. As long as nothing that could connect me to being identified is shown, like my name!

I can’t believe we did it! I have pictures of that pieing! Fantastic job! Thanks for letting us come Robert, Rosanne, and Rebbecca! You all rock very hard and as do the other musers I met!

I won’t tell you about it, seeing as everyone has piled stories until you could breathe no more!

    The pizzza was goooooddd…

  17. Jadestone says:

  21. Capricious The Great and Terrible (cappy) says:

In the part when it says “Insanity” you can see my dad! He’s on the righthand side waaayyyyy over with a yellow-ish shirt and black hair!

    Pie 0
    Squid 0
  22. Midnight Fiddler says:

hat was SO FUNNY!!!!!!!! It was really great.
In the “have a pie”, Glassboro, THF and I were all sitting in the corner laughing our heads off. It was reahlly hard to sing while laughing that hard….
You can see the back of my head in the INSANITY, and A licence plate on THF’s shirt? Ha, ha, braids.
Yeah, what was that with the emails? I don’t even know who half the people are!

    Pie 0
    Squid 0
  23. Sweet Melpomene says:

Heehee, love the singing. And “this is an actual writer.”

I wish I could go / could have gone. Maybe if there’s another. Well, not this Wednesday, but another, you know? I could drive myself there next summer…

Who got pied by the GAPA? I couldn’t tell with the coat and the icing and all…

    Pie 0
    Squid 0
  24. Capricious The Great and Terrible (cappy) says:

23- Well, you’d most likely be hanging out with a bunch of kids mucho younger than you… :D

    Pie 0
    Squid 0
  25. Red-tailed HAWK says:

23-It was Robert and Rosanne pie-ing each other!

What I meant by the e-mails was that anyone who does not like getting tons of e-mails from other Musers (if there is such a person), don’t be sad that you are not on the e-mail list! (jk)

    Pie 0
    Squid 0
  26. Sweet Melpomene says:

I’m Olivia, in case you’re wondering. On the email thingy.

24- *shrugs* Not that much of an issue.

    25- Oooh. Okay.

The rewrite of “Let it Be” should totally be the next big hit…

    Pie 0
    Squid 0
  27. Beavo the Online Stalker says:

    Have a Pie. Hehehehe.

That was really da pwnage cool!!!! I can’t wait for the next version to come out.

“This is an actual writer.” *bursts out laughing*

Who was the person in the hood? I couldn’t tell. Anyway, I wish I could have been there. You guys have really nice voices… mine already broke so I have no hope of singing that. :( I sing horribly anyway…

    Pie 0
    Squid 0
  28. Robert Coontz (Administrator) says:

The hooded person was Rosanne. She was wearing one of my rain ponchos, which was much too big for her, and was being extra-careful to keep custard pie filling out of her long, curly hair. (It didn’t work, for either of us. My hair was plastered onto my forehead with chocolate custard all day.)

    Pie 0
    Squid 0
  29. Midnight Fiddler says:

It was really great. “okay, now I’m totally weirded out. How many of you have wlked into a room and seen your licence plate on the back of someones shirt?!” *keels over laughing*
    That was so halarious!!!
the Pie-ing, everybody was just sitting there, watching, and waiting to see what would happen. Was it true that you didn’t tell the AAAS you were going to do that?!

    Pie 0
    Squid 0
  30. Robert Coontz (Administrator) says:

It’s true: they didn’t know, and I’m sort of glad the other AAAS people weren’t there — not that that would have stopped us.

    Pie 0
    Squid 0
  31. Midnight Fiddler says:

PP and THF~ I just listened to your musecast #1. Great, very funny. Thanks!

    Pie 0
    Squid 0
  32. curious and questioning says:

    I so remember that.

Can you just upload (or send to me) any and all footage?

And I echo everything everyone else said, mostly.

    Pie 0
    Squid 0
  33. Purple Panda says:

Do any of the Kokonventioners have anything specific they want put in the video? I can’t include everything, and I don’t have footage of everything, but if people have requests, I’d be glad to add them.

And, for the misspelling of “license” – I really do know how to spell the word…I just accidentally used 2 “s”es, and then when I went back to fix it I must not have deleted the s. As you can probably tell, I just threw it together really fast.

    Pie 0
    Squid 0
  34. Midnight Fiddler says:

30~ Wow, will they ever know?

I really can’t say enough how much fun I had, it was amazing.
I was quite releived, actually, when we skipped the pie. I had been feeling slightly threatened since Robert was sitting right across the table from me!!!!

It was great, no words can describe it.

    Pie 0
    Squid 0
  35. Glassboro says:

14- Yeah, that pizza was great…
22- Yes, we were. I still think that we should have tried again, though. :(
I have to agree with post 34, it was the best day of my life (I think). Looking forward to the next one, and still hoping for it to be in Princeton.

    Pie 0
    Squid 0
  36. Alice says:

8- You’re not alone. I was a bit snappish on the tenth, and I think I can guess why…

It looked like so much fun! Send more!

    Pie 0
    Squid 0
  37. purplefinch says:

Oh, I wish I could have gone… It looks amazingly fun! We do need a NY kokonvention, I think.

    Pie 0
    Squid 0
  38. kricket says:

29- Never seen a license plate on the back of someone’s shirt, but my friend has one on the back of her basement stairs. Which led to all of my friends sitting on the stairs and “driving the stairs.” (we were making all the swervy and vroom noises ourselves. You should try driving the stairs sometimes. It’s fun.)

My friend: AH IT’S A DEER!!! *swerve*
Me: AH IT’S A BUSH!!! *swerve*
My friend: LOOK IT’S *insert name of person we don’t like*!!! FLOOR IT!!! *vroooooooommm!*

Haha, good times. I’m so weird.

37- Yeah, we either need a PA or NY one. ’cause I’m all lonely down here… *is sad*

    Pie 0
    Squid 0
  39. Midnight Fiddler says:

where in PA?? I might be able to come, if it’s in a part of the state close to where I live…..

Rebecca looks like she’s having so much fun singing “Have a Pie”! That was so great.

    Pie 0
    Squid 0
  40. Sweet Melpomene says:

37, 38, 39- Ooh, NY would be good. Like, at the Museum of Natural History or the Met! Or in PA, maybe a big city like Pittsburgh or Philly. Or in Allentown, so we could sing Billy Joel. Or, better yet, Muse. But is there anything there?

    Pie 0
    Squid 0
  41. Momothebrainlesspig says:

Oooh, yes, one in PA would be awesome since that is where I am. *hopeful*

    Pie 0
    Squid 0
  42. Glassboro says:

40- There is apparently nothing in Muse, sorry. There’s lotsa stuff in Princeton, though…

    Pie 0
    Squid 0
  43. Red-tailed HAWK says:

Whadaya mean therz nothan in Muse? :D It’s a totally awesome magazine! :P / ;) heheh!

    Pie 0
    Squid 0
  44. Robert Coontz (Administrator) says:

    (42) Having been through Muse, Pennsylvania, I wouldn’t say that there’s nothing there. There’s a lodge hall, an elementary school, and a general store. I’m sure we could find a room to meet in if we tried, and maybe even a piano. And the general store must have ice cream. What more do we need?

    Pie 0
    Squid 0
  45. Glassboro says:

Oh. I thought that you said that it wouldn’t be a very good place for a kokonvention, but I guess that I misunderstood.

    Pie 0
    Squid 0
  46. Purple Panda says:

Well, we could stop there if we do the Pumpkin Drop, though I’m not sure how close it is. It’s about 14 miles from my Pittsburgh, which will only take about 20-30 minutes.

    Pie 0
    Squid 0
  47. the man for aeiou says:

44- why do you say they must have ice cream. what more do we need? it sould be pie!

    Pie 0
    Squid 0
  48. Kagcomix the Bowler Hat Guy says:

    you all looked american…..

    Pie 0
    Squid 0
  49. Midnight Fiddler says:

44~ I’m vegan, and therefore don’t eat dairy ice cream. :( Pie would defenately be better!!!

    Pie 0
    Squid 0
  50. Elizabeth says:

49- if you don’t eat dairy products then you must oppose milking cows, and that is definately cruel to cows, I would know as I have 15 of my own cows and wouldn’t ever let them suffer.

    Pie 0
    Squid 0
  51. Dancergirl13 says:

I live really close to St. Louis, and we are already paying to go to New York in November, we should have it down here!!!

I apologize, I just had to protest for some reason.

    Pie 0
    Squid 0
  52. Alice says:

50- Once I was taking a walk and I came upon a cow that needed milking. Poor thing! She looked so uncomfortable. We took her back to her home, because she was wandering the roads.

    Pie 0
    Squid 0
  53. Dancergirl13 says:

Sorry for the second post, but I would like to point out that St. Louis has the extremely positively awesomely awesome city museum!!!! We have the art museum, the science center, the zoo(of course), everything in Forest Park etc. etc!!!!

    Pie 0

  54. Robert Coontz (Administrator) says:

Back to Friday’s Kokonvention. In the excitement, I forgot to mention that the publication 125 Questions: What Don’t We Know? (in the “goody bags” the AAAS people handed out) was reprinted from a special section that I edited for Science magazine. It’s my own handiwork, so you know it’s got to be good!

I’ll have copies for the August 15 Kokonventioneers, too.

    Pie 0

  55. kiwimuncher says:

    HAVE A PIE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Pie 0
    Squid 0
  56. Purple Panda says:

54 – Cool! I read about half of it so far.

My brother also LOVES “Kinetic City” – he’s 7, so it fits his age group. He’s now obsessed :D

    Pie 0
    Squid 0
  57. Sweet Melpomene says:

49- …Same here, now. No more dairy here… I’d second the movement for non-dairy pies or something…

Hmm, would a Kokonvention during winter break work? Hmm, could be snowed out, though…

    Pie 0
    Squid 0
  58. Robert Coontz (Administrator) says:

We could have a snowpie fight.

    Pie 0
    Squid 0
  59. Jadestone says:

    Have a snow-Muse building contest.

    Pie 0
    Squid 0
  60. jammin j says:

    Pie 0
    Squid 0
  61. Robert Coontz (Administrator) says:

There’s a thought. We could go to the Plantation and speak Elizabethan.

    Pie 0
    Squid 0
  62. Glassboro says:

    Curses… I got here too late. I think… There’s still a chance.
57- I was thinking of that… We could have it in Princeton. There’s not too much snow, and when there is it’s fine. And we could go to the library or somewhere to use the computer.

    Pie 0
    Squid 0
  63. Dancergirl13 says:

It would be fun to do it during the winter, but not in November!!!!

    Pie 0
    Squid 0
  64. Midnight Fiddler says:

50~ My uncle is a dairy farmer in Wisconsin. I’m vegan because my parents are. This probably isn’t the best place to start discussing cows, though.

54~ Oh, cool, I haven’t read it much yet, but I’ll have to check it out. I wore the shirt last night! Thanks so much for the AAAS people for doing that, it was really nice.

58~ SNOWPIES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yes, I like that idea, very much! However, that shape would be harder to throw and have it stay intact than I sphere……hmm…… *thinks*

Did the GAPAs pie each other today?

    Pie 0
    Squid 0
  65. Red-tailed HAWK says:

OK, so here’s a brief decription of what happened:

    1. We were lost and couldn’t find a parking garage, found one right across the street from bookstore, and went in. Found ReB and others, except I think kt wasn’t there yet…

    2. We waited, Robert came in, and we went to the bus stop.

    3. We all got on the bus, but Robert had to go back to work ( :( ) and went over to NPR.

    4. Took tour of NPR-very cool!

    5. Went back to pick Robert up, went to Press Club for lunch again.

    6. Walked with Ivars Peterson (w/out Robert) to the Mathmatical Association of America, took tour, in two cool old houses, and went to recently renovated carriage house to learn about and make mobius strips.

It was all great, and I’m sure we will all be filtering in details soon!

And kt looks a lot like I thought she did! But the others, not so much…I don’t know why some people turn out how you think and others not..

Also, we saw what I believe were the same two noisy fire trucks, just as noisy.

‘Twaz very fun, but now they are both over, and I’m a bit sad! :( /

  66. Capricious the Too Lazy to Write Her Entire Name But Will Write a Longer, Different One Because She is Wierd That Way says:

33- Um… What was that one thing?… Any footage of the pies, or the pizza place, or anything!
50- Milking them doesn’t hurt them!

    Pie 0
    Squid 0
  67. Midnight Fiddler says:

Sounds fun. Well, I wore my Kokopelli for President button all day, and left a poster I drew at the lake cabin, for others to ponder. I also convinced my cousin, who will be able to vote next year, to vote Koko…. And I also sang Have A pie, and Mamas don’t let your Babies grow up to be Muses. I was thinking of you all.

    Pie 0
    Squid 0
  68. Sweet Melpomene says:

    58- Oh, heck yes ^_^

62- That would also be way amazingly cool!!!

You know those weird skiing hats that have dreadlocks or whatever hanging off of them? How flamablamablous would Kokopelli hats in that style be?

    Pie 0
    Squid 0
  69. Rebecca Lasley (Administrator) says:

Here’s a glimpse of the crew from DC Kokonvention Section II, including MuseBloggers, 2 GAPAs, and a few brave parents.

More documentation from both days to follow once I get back to NC.

    Pie 0

  70. The Insane Blue Sage says:

I wish I was on that side of the Mississippi. Arghhh. Anyone in the midwest?

    Pie 0
    Squid 0
  71. Jadestone says:

Sweet! Who’s who? I can pick out Robert and Rebecca, obviously, and I could guess at the others, but I’m not sure. Can’t read the name-tags from here ;)

    Pie 0
    Squid 0
  72. Purple Panda says:

Will you post a picture of the 1st Kokonvention? I have one if you need one.

Ebeth is the one pie-ing Robert. Rt-H is on the right.

    Pie 0
    Squid 0
  73. Red-tailed HAWK says:

Ahh, I was looking at someone else taking a picture. Anyhow, that’s me…

    Pie 0
    Squid 0
  74. Robert Coontz (Administrator) says:

    (71) Red-tailed HAWK made the name tags for everybody, by the way.

    Pie 0
    Squid 0
  75. violindino says:

Wow, that is so awesome!!!!!!!! Wish I was there… but for some reason, my parents wouldn’t drive twelve hours to DC. ;)

    70: I am!

    Pie 0
    Squid 0
  76. Midnight Fiddler says:

Fun. I only recognized Robert, Rebecca and R-t H, obviously.
73~ It’s a good picture, actually. I’m sure I’ll look like a total idiot when the Friday pictures come in…. *shudder* Not to mention any recordings of my playing music.

So, did the GAPAs get pied with anything other than felt pies?

    Pie 0
    Squid 0
  77. Midnight Fiddler says:

&0~ Where in the Midwest? I’ll be in Wisconsin for about a week.

    Pie 0
    Squid 0
  78. Midnight Fiddler says:

That was supposed to be 70, by the way!
    Sorry for the triple post…

    Pie 0

  79. the man for aeiou says:

you know Rt-H looks like an evil gunis and sounds like on (see musecast 5). we will get the world!

    Pie 0
    Squid 0
  80. Volanti of Phanland, trying out a thoroughly odd name (THF) says:

Stuff about veganism – A lot of vegans will drink/eat “organic” dairy products – the stuff from real happy farms instead of those awful lightless stalls that the cows aren’t allowed out of and stuff. Same with eggs. Some vegans believe that the animals should have their own life, cows use their milk for calves, not for humans, things like that. I respect that, but do not share those views.

    Pie 0
    Squid 0
  81. Midnight Fiddler says:

80~ Not really, some vegitarians will eat dairy products. Vegan is not just the kind of dairy, it’s NO dairy. There are various types of vegan and vegitarian, like “freegans”- vegans who will sometimes eat dairy if it would otherwise go to waste. But other than that, vegan means no dairy. We should probab;y move this to the vegie thread, sorry GAPAs!

    Pie 0
    Squid 0
  82. Alice says:

Cool! None of you look even remotely like I imagined. Mirabelle looks older (she’s often said that), HAWK just looks different, kt looked older than I thought, and Ebeth looks a lot shorter. And she has darker hair. HAWK’s hair looks much curlier than I’d imagined, I guess.

    Pie 0
    Squid 0
  83. borzoi lover says:

ok- please explain to the dumb newcomer-what exactly is the kokovention? where is it? when is it? what’s the point of it? thank you

    Pie 0
    Squid 0
  84. Red-tailed HAWK says:

Harhah! I found a moment to come on…

82-My hair looks a lot curlier than I imagined. My hair gets really weird in the humidity. In that picture, my hair isn’t all that bad, compared to what it can be…

79-Shouldn’t I look like what I am?

76-They were going to, but to (probably) Rebecca’s delight we never found a good spot, plus Robert was never seen again after lunch. :(

People did seem to like the name tags, but I was happy to make them! :)

I’ll be back in my full evilness soon! / ;)

    Red-tailed HAWK :D :D :D

  85. widdershins (e~a) says:

    who’s pie-ing Ebeth?

    Pie 0
    Squid 0
  86. Robert Coontz (Administrator) says:

    (85) That’s Ebeth’s brother, who never fails to remind you that he is her little brother. He’s taller, though, and has longer arms — useful in a pie fight.

    (83) Does anyone remember what the point was? I’m not sure we ever got around to deciding. World domination, I suppose, like everything else we do around here.

To find out more, go to the main page and type “Kokonvention” in the yellow search box. That should make you good and confused.

    Pie 0
    Squid 0
  87. Capricious The Great and Terrible (cappy) says:

80- But “organic” does in no way mean that the cows are any happier…

I can’t wait to see some more stuff from the first kokonvention!

    Pie 0
    Squid 0
  88. Glassboro says:

76- However bad you are, I’m worse. Just remember that, and you’ll be fine.
    84- The evil part fits… :D

    Pie 0
    Squid 0

Heck, if I only read books for my age level (not to mention my reading level, that would put me somewhere in the adult section) (not to brag, or anything), then I would have to give up E. Nesbit entirely. and then I would die.

billions of years ago (meaning like two) when i spent a summer shelving books at the library, i’d get done with my carts so fast that i’d have time to read an average length small children’s picture book. so i did. some of them were pretty good. :D

i’ve read all the oz books too. we found the entire set at a garage sale or something i think. or mebbe they’re from my mom’s bookstore days when the ripped the covers off unsold books and then gave them away to the workers (*gasp* yes we have unsold books. but the alternative would be to burn them)

111: Okay, I never got that. What’s the deal with ripping the covers off? There’s always that warning in the front of books, saying that books without covers were stolen. Huh? I used to think that meant that book thieves would sneak into factories and steal books before the covers were attached, then re-sell them.
