It’s a fifth-grade reading level, the plots are not brilliant, the characters unappealing for the most part, the magic childish and unrealistic, as magic goes, and yet half the world’s literate population is totally fanatic. WHY? I thought it was good a while ago, and I wouldn’t have anything against if it wasn’t so CAKING POPULAR!

Whew…..Cat’s Meow asks how we know tis stuff? I’ve read the first four books approximately 8 times each, the fifth 7 times, the 6th 4 times and the 8th 2 1/2 times. (yes, 2 1/2, it’s possible.)
I love the books, I thin that the writing is wonderful for all ages, and the plots are so intricate and perfect that I am continually amazed at them. I never tire of reading them, and I intend to read them all over again many times before I die.
I’m so glad that I’ve been part of this generating and able to see them unfold and develop.As for their amazing popularity, that’s what kept me from reading them for awhile, but once I started reading I realized why they are so popular; not because they are cheap and easy reads like some bestsellers (*coughTiwlightcough*) but because they have real worth.

So we have to wait almost a whole other YEAR to see the 6th movie!!!!!!!!!!!!! Here’s the article:
“Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince,” the sixth installment in the blockbuster film franchise about boy wizard Harry, is moving from its planned Nov. 21 release to July 17, 2009, distributor Warner Bros. said Thursday.
The move was made to take advantage of an open weekend in Hollywood’s busy summer season, said Alan Horn, Warner Bros. president and chief operating officer. The film had been on schedule, and the change was not due to any production snags, he said.
“The picture is completely, absolutely, 100 percent on schedule, on time. There were no delays,” Horn told The Associated Press. “I’ve seen the movie. It is fabulous. We would have been perfectly able to have it out in November.”
The switch will mean a two-year lag between the film adaptations of books five and six in J.K. Rowling’s fantasy series. But it will shorten fans’ wait between “Half-Blood Prince” and the final two installments, which are being shot simultaneously next year.
Based on book seven, “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows,” the last two movies are due out in close order, in November 2010 and summer 2011. Horn said the later release of “Half-Blood Prince” will not affect the schedule for the final two movies.
Horn said the studio has had success with past summer “Harry Potter” releases, including the fifth movie, which was released in 2007 and became the second-highest grossing in the franchise.
The recent Writers Guild of America strike also had affected Hollywood’s lineup in next summer, leaving a key date open for Warner to slot in “Half-Blood Prince,” Horn said.
The July 17 release will be over the same weekend that Warner debuted this year’s blockbuster “The Dark Knight,” which had a record-breaking opening weekend and is on its way to $500 million domestically and the No. 2 spot on the all-time box-office charts behind “Titanic.”Oh, not to take everyone’s minds off of trivia, but the other HP threads aren’t very active any more, and this one is.

2. I believe it’s whom did he marry–and I”m only correcting your grammar, to stall on answering the question, because I really don’t remember. (Oh, just googled it–septimus weasley, according to the HP wiki)
3. Oh, jeez, i don’t remember–why couldn’t you have asked who confunded him in tryouts in HBP? (also on wiki–just regular this time–he ate a pound of doxy eggs on a bet)

in September 1st, 2008 @ 14:57ok–just an interesting note: We have established (via wikipedia) that the Death Eaters were originally named the Knights of Walpurgis. Additionally, we know that Gellert Grindelwald was defeated in 1945, the same year that Adolf Hitler committed suicide (suggesting a parallel between the two, when combined with other similarities Nurmengard/Nuremberg; “For the Greater Good”; and their oppression of “lesser” races).
It is also interesting to note, that according to wikipedia, Adolf Hitler committed suicide on the pagan holiday of Walpurgisnacht (May 1)–perhaps Grindelwald was not only defeated in 1945, but on this same holiday? And JKR mayhap was going to have them be the Knights of Walpurgis, in some form of tribute to the Dark Wizard Grindelwald?
Just a thought…..

According to one of my scrapbook pages on JKR’s official site, where she was making a list of the genders of Hogwarts teachers for Azkaban, Prof. Sinistra was listed as female (Aurora Sinistra). but, at the same time, Divination professor was listed as male–and I can’t quite make out what the name is supposed to be. So, the gender could have changed by the time the books actually came out, but I don’t actually remember there being a gender listed in the books, so anyway…..

There’s “Merhione Pager”, a pureblood witch, a troublemaker, and later gets mugglified. There’s Sen Aesli, son of some Ministry dude, who is Porry Hatter’s best friend. There’s Krako Malhoy, a wacko Porry Hatter fan who refers to him as “My favorite sweetie”, who is accompanied by Grabbe and Coil, two boys “of intelligent appearance”.
And don’t even get me started on how wonderful Yugorus Loozh is.
