arbitrary list of artists I enjoy
Radiohead, sufjan stevens, hot chip, miyavi, 12012, wilco, of montreal, keane, the flaming lips, fiona apple, conor oberst/bright eyes
I also enjoy classical music. All types really. Me and my mom listen to the classical music station in the car if we’re going somewhere and it’s really nice.
Firebird suite, anyone?
I mostly like stuff I’ve played in orchestra.
i’m going through a dannie darko spot. Which means, crying my heart out to ”Mad world”. All my friends keep sticking their heads into my room and saying, ”oh are you watching ‘darko’?”
Matchbox Romance is one of those obscure little bands that I am fond of. Other than that, my main music supplement is My Chemical Romance, Panic (! optional, I like both CDs) at the Disco, Paramore, and the Beatles. I could honestly survive listening to only those bands for the rest of my life.
I like the firebird suite. I’ve never properly seen it, and I haven’t heard it at all in years, but I remember liking it.
I honestly listen to a lot of (Broadway) musicals. The Secret Garden, Seussical, and Dirty Rotten Scoundrels are some of my favorites to listen to.
Actual Title of Song by Atom and His Package:
“The Palestinians aren’t the Same Thing as the Rebel Alliance, Jackass”
Arrogant Worms anyone? I also like Plumtree.
John Mayer NE1? or my fav: SWITCHFOOT!! thatz a sicnarsty band
um NE1 = anyone, so u dont confuse it with the band name. (sorry 4 the double post)
A little oldies…
and if this looks familiar its cuz its copy/pasted off the chatterbox
Miley Cyrus (not really Hannah Montana stuff though)
Secondhand Serenade
KT Tunstall
Rihanna
sometimes the Jonas Brothers but only “Burnin’ Up” (awesome song)
Kelly Clarkson
I also really like “Summertime” by New Kids On The Block and “Everytime we Touch” by CASCADA. Those of you who like anime (I don’t, sorry) probably know that last one. I’ve seen videos on YouTube that have that song with anime (Naruto and… something else that I forget).
*smiles* Sooo who’s with me?
9-cut the chatspeak please, i don’t like translating and i know you’re intelligent enough to speak in complete sentences (or at least complete words)
1-radiohead’s good, flaming lips are sweet, i’m not a bright eyes fan (don’t like the singing/it’s a bit typical), and the rest i’ve never heard of
4-MCR and paramore are on my list of bands i hate…the beatles are rockin’ though
7-arrogant worms are hilarious
8-haven’t heard much john meyer/not really that interested in what i’ve heard. switchfoot’s good.
i’ve decided to move to finland. finnish metal ftw!
i’m also still insanely excited about phish getting back together
Piano Concerto #2 in B flat Op 83, by Johannes Brahms. ‘Nuff said.
I mostly listen to classical music, but I do listen to some soundtracks and musicals, including LOTR soundtracks, Avenue Q, The Secret Garden, and Seussical.
Yay, LOTR!!!
I’m partial to my Harry Potter soundtracks–namely #4. 1-3 are ok, but John Williams’ music tend to get repetetive–I was listening to a piano recital one time, and this kid was playing this song from some movie I’d never seen, had no clue who did the soundtrack–and I thought, hey that sounds like JW’s stuff, and sure enough, I looked it up and it was by john williams. the song had great similarities to themes in HP.
HP 4 soundtrack is totally awesome–Patrick Doyle is brilliant
HP5 is ok–honestly, I don’t htink I’ve even listened to the entire thing yet…..
Anyways, that’s really all I listen to, and I don’t evenlisten to themall that often….
10- Not many people will agree with you there. *controls anger* *can’t take it*
NOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! NO! NO! NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
10 – You may not be entirely supported by people here.
Urk, I can’t find a link right now, but there was a comment about locking the Jonas Brothers, Demi Lovato, Hannah Montana, etc., in a room with their guitars, CDs, music, etc., and lighting it on fire. Pleasant, no?
But, seriously, tread carefully with those comments. Those are… not very welcome, shall we say, here?
They Might Be Giants (of course). I actually met people (my age!) in real life (!) who had heard of Them, while I was at my camp-ish-thing. It was exciting.
Kila, Altan, Solas, and other Irish-ish bands are fun, and Kila is bordering on amazing, in my opinion. I love their album titles… Gambler’s Ballet, Luna Park, Handel’s Fantasy, etc. Except for the fact that the itunes album of Gambler’s Ballet is messed up and not labeled correctly. *cough*
I listen to random classical music a lot, especially Saint-Saens and ballet music… I can’t decide if I adore or detest the Nutcracker.
I found a song by Oppenheimer (questionable spelling?) that I thought was very nice… Look Up, it’s called. The music video is cute, and makes me smile.
I am thinking I need to expand my musical tastes.
11- *sigh* Well, we all have different tastes.
Country! Love it. Dixie Chicks are cool beyond the brink of cool.
17-i was on the bus back from an away game once, and i was listening to my ipod and doctor worm came on. So i was like “guys, listen this is a brilliant song” and started singing, in an attempt to convert the unenlightened. Yeti goes “TMBG? i love them!” and starts singing along. we both knew the words to pretty much everything…and so all of our friends became instant TMBG fans, unable to withstand the sheer force of awesome.
the doctor horrible soundtrack is out. i don’t have a gift card though, so i’m not getting it (that’s the only time i deign to use the itunes store, is when people give me free things)
Nothing very new or exciting on the recently added list, just some stuff i had before that wouldn’t fit on the comp. Andy still needs to get me the dr. dog and VHS or BETA stuff. and bill has tickle me pink but i didn’t think they were quite brilliant enough to put on my ipod (a little too towards the emo side of things for me)
11) mmm yeah I can see that. I wasn’t too impressed with his new cd actually.
15,16) dudes, chill. we all like what we like. I’m no fan but it’s not my place to say one way or another.
19-Wow… XD Maybe I’ll start on a campaign to convert the unenlightened. Though I don’t know if it would turn out as well as yours…
I guess I shall stop contributing to this thread since no one seems to value my opinion.
22- Its ok. Not many people like my music either. I love underground hip-hop and everyone hates rap here. I don’t like Hannah montana or the jonas brothers but I respect your opinion.
(16, 10) Kokonilly — Were you telling LadyGaladriel that her comments were unwelcome because some people on the blog disagreed with her? That’s not very Muselike. Perhaps I misunderstood.
No, I don’t think you misunderstood. Kokonilly was telling me I am not welcome here.
If so, the proper response is “Nonsense! I’ll say what I please. *pies*”
-throws pie at Kokonilly- -huge messy blueberry pie- :p Kokonilly
(25) Maybe we should give Kokonilly a chance to respond. There are other possible interpretations. Perhaps she was merely pointing out (from her perception) that those particular artists are not all that popular on the blog. She might even be making a sideways reply to Beatlesrockr’s comment. The last sentence in her post suggests she did not intend to be unwelcoming.
Whatever the case, others have supported you, even though they don’t necessarily share your taste.
16- Nilly, that was Beatlesrockr’s comment about blowing them up. Keep the guitars, though. But some people like them, and there’s nothing wrong with that.
28- quite possibly, Lady B. Kokonilly’s never struck me as the sort to randomly hand out an ill-considered post.
27- You’re always welcome, LadyGaladriel. But please don’t use chatspeak–it’s hard to always have to decipher.
I’ll say Kokonilly wasn’t telling LG to leave, just warning her several MBers have posted rather violent things concerning the Jonas Brothers, Miley Cyrus, ect.
LadyGaladriel, I love KT Tunstall too!!!! I agree with Rebecca, sometimes comments online sound like they mean to hurt you, but really the poster meant no harm. Just trying to make you feel better. *hands over choklit*
Has anyone heard of Dar Williams?? Anyone? I really like her. I’d love it if someone else knew who she is.
I like Dar Williams. “The Green World” is some of my favorite music for long drives.
NO! NO! I wasn’t trying to be mean to her or anything. I was simply trying to warn her.
MIKA = ftw
Also, TMBG is the best band ever. (MIKA isn’t a band) Out of their albums, I like Flood the best.
Music playing right now: Walking on Air by Kerli.
Coldplay is pretty awesome too, as is Dido, Regina Spektor, Weezer, Yael Naïm, and Sara Bareilles.
33(/all)-i do have some new music! mutemath! (i don’t have them yet but i want them). they’re like coldplay but a little less annoying (admit it, coldplay’s a little annoying at times…). anyway, they’re really good
33- I like Sara too!
30- thanks for the choklit Yay KT!! I love “Suddenly I See” and “Black Horse and the Cherry Tree”.
24- No no, I really think she was just trying to touch on the point that most people here prefer music that is not rap, or pop, usually. (Other than Cliff Eagle, and all of his wangsta rap… luv ya, Cliffie.)
Oh BTW…. can I clarify something here? I said, “Miley Cyrus (not really Hannah Montana stuff though) !!!!!!
AKA, I only like ONE song by Miley Cyrus and that is “7 Things”. And, I ALSO said, “sometimes the Jonas Brothers but only “Burnin’ Up†(awesome song)”!!!!!!! I ONLY LIKE THAT SONG BECAUSE IT HAS AN AWESOME BEAT!!!!!! OK????????????
37- I don’t adore the Jonas Brothers, but I don’t hate them either.
My dad and I just microwaved a banana. It exploded a little, then it just smelled like burnt rubber. (In case anyone was wondering what happens when you microwave a banana… clearly, my mom is at work.)
30 – I love Dar Williams!
I am rediscovering my love of folk music. I went to a folk festival over the Labor Day weekend, and it was flamablamablous. Has anyone here heard of Leela and Ellie Grace? They are two sisters who are folk singers and sing beautiful harmonies.
I like the song Stick By You by Andrew Lipke. It has a catchy folk-music type beat, and it’s similar to Jack Johnson.
Hi guys! Has anyone ever heard of band Breaking Benjamin? (Hard rock/metal) They are my current favorite.
41 – I’ve certainly heard of them (they’re one of my friend’s favorite bands) but I don’t think I’ve actually heard any of their songs. Hard rock/metal isn’t really my style.
Bands I Like (In No Particular Order):
My Chemical Romance
blink-182
Mindless Self Indulgence
The Birthday Massacre
Atreyu
the Beatles
Breaking Benjamin
The Medic Droid
Elvenking
The Black Eyed Peas (yes, still)
Jeffree Star
Aw, I might as well add Scotty Vanity
AFI
Theatre of Tragedy
Elis
Noia Ssaion
Kerli
Boys Like Girls
The Killers
Rihanna (sometimes)
Katy Perry (sometimes)
All-American Rejects
Cobra Starship
Cassandra Syndrome
Bands I’m Getting Into, But I’d Be A Liar If I Put Them On The Previous List:
Jack’s Manniquin
The Devil Wears Prada
Nightwish
Panic! At the Disco
Cradle of Filth
17- Ooh, Solas. I haven’t listened to much of their stuff; my uncle has like, all the albums, or at least four or five of them, so I listened to them a bit, but then my mom put all that on the external hard drive and I’m too lazy to go retrieve it. But isn’t Karan Casey in Solas? I’ve heard quite a bit of her stuff, and it’s amazing.
33- As in, Dido Twite? She’s my hero(ine). Too bad she’s totally fictional.
REALLY REALLY GOOD artists:
Old Blind Dogs (One time they played here and of course I fell asleep halfway through, but apparently my sister (who would have been four or five at the time) went out on the stage at intermission or the end or something and asked “Where’s the dog?” and they told her that they couldn’t take him on the plane so they had to leave him behind. )
Casey Niell (He played here in June but I missed it because I was kayaking )
41- I don’t think I’ve ever seen your posts, but I know you’re not a pyte. I assume you do Gaia?
Anyway, Breaking Benjamin is a cool band.
I got into a World Music elective at my new school were listening to everything from mongolian throat singing to gospel! ! ! ! ! ! ! !
25~ You are welcome here! i often get lambasted for my musical choices, like the time I got called a “music-hater”, and I live for music. We all have different tastes, and music is personal, what I hate my friend loves, and on some we meet in the middle.
That said, I love Irish, Scottish and English traditional music, the stuff that goes under the general title of “Celtic.” I play fiddle (thus the name) and concertina, which makes most people give me a blank stare and say “Uuh, what’s that?”
I adore historical music, I love finding old songs and playing them, it’s like a musical treasure hunt.
I also have a passion for maritime music, sea chanties and work songs. I love to sing them and think about the jobs they were sung to, the people who sang them and the way they were done. Another treasure hunt, and it’s good to review the parts of a working ship or sailing maneuvers…. ( yes, I’m a geek.)
I also like listening to all sorts of random stuff that friends tell me about, I find by accident or that I hear just about anywhere. For example, having access to a tv last week made me look up Drake Bell’s music. (yes, be surprised.) It’s interesting, some of it is fun, I enjoy it as something different.
A friend sent me a song by the Rolling Stones, and I love it, I’ve been listening to all sorts of things lately, and thoroughly enjoying them.
Yes, I’m weird in all things. those who know me are used to it, those who don’t know me yet, take this as fair warning…… I’m safe though, really. Heh, who wouldn’t trust that face? If not that one, maybe, this?
GAH. I have a huge musical assignment. I must find a song that expresses at least three of the different worldviews we discussed in Global Studies, with at least four references (total). I suppose it’s not so hard, if I have lyrics, but of course I don’t. The music moves too fast for me to analyze without lyrics.
48~ Ooh, fun, what different world views o you have to find expressed in songs? I may be able to think of some….
49- Fun? Not quite. It would be fun, if I had more time and less homework in general. The worldviews are: Secular Humanism, Communism, Cosmic Humanism (New Age), and Christianity.
What an odd assignment. John Lennon’s song “Imagine” has aspects of some of those ideologies in it. What course is this for, again?
38–with the peel, or without the peel?
48/50- Only one song for three of those world views? That sounds really difficult.
itunes hates me
basically i lost all the music/movies on my comp
some of the movies and music i can get back through cds, and i can upload about 4000 from my ipod
but
i basically lost about 1000 songs. and some really good movies. and dr. horrible!!!
*tear*
51- It’s for Global Studies. It’s not that hard, just annoying and time-consuming (find the lyrics, analyze as much as possible, count the references, start over). -sigh- Oh well. If we’re lucky, someday we’ll move onto actually studying the globe.
Attn: People that hate rap music
Here’s something to get in touch with your rap-loving side. Try Citizen Cope. Especially “Let the Drummer Kick” and “Son’s Gonna Rise”.

54) oh that sucks so bad. I now a lot of the stuff I had, if I lost it I couldn’t get it back.
56) not gonna lie, I dig the beat rap has. it really gets you pumped up, and I think that that’s about as universal as what pop music does. so it’s cooooool
I need help. I somehow mentioned around my music teacher that I played piano. And it’s jazz band tryout time. I never wanted to do jazz band or the 7th grade band. He grabbed me after class (not literally, thankfully) and, to make a long stary short, wanted me to join band. He rambled on about how it’s “Your 1st opprotunity to play piano in middle school” and how it would be so wonderful and all that. I tried to tell him that I thought that I had too much else going on, but he wouldn’t take the hint. So he told me to come see him again before I got on the bus after school. Again, I told him that I didn’t have the time to commit to practicing. He looked at me like I was insane and was like “You’d miss a great opprotunity” and blah blah blah. I DO NOT want to do this, but I don’t know how to say no with out just outrightsaying “NO I don’t want to be in band!”
Help?
54- That really sucks. I would be so mad if that happened to me… most of my stuff is on my iPod right now, but not everything.
58- Explain to him that you TOTALLY would, but you have WAY too juch going on right now with your dogs, soccer, (uhm… bring up some more stuff that’s on your schedule). If you be clear but polite, he’ll back down.
60-I told him that twice! (he is the evil music teacher I’ve told you stories about ) I said that I just joined the school soccer team that has like, 3 games a week, and he looked at me like I was INSANE for not wanting to sacrafice my life for the jazz band. (Okay, maybe not that dramatically, but I’m practicing for drama club. ha ha. Now I’m totally getting off topic.) I think that if he mentions it again, I’ll tell him that (this is what my Mom told me to do) my parents won’t let me do it since I have a lot of other stuff going on. *wink wink* Whatever. I don’t like him anyways. To bad for him.
58-or just do it! jazz band is a party. and you don’t have to practice much for jazz piano, it’s mostly chords or improv
besides, if he’s disappointed at your skillz (or lack thereof) you could just be like “well, i told you i didn’t have time to practice…”
GAH.
I have “The Sound of Silence”, by Simon and Garfunkel, stuck in my head. AND IT WON’T COME OUT. I know every line of it by now, and the tune… -shudders-
It’s not a bad song, I swear. I actually kind of like it. But it’s so persistent!
63-I like paul simon as a solo artist- (Graceland is PWNSOME. Repeat, Pwnsome.) but I hate Simon and Garfunkel.
The best way to get a song out of your head is to sing the Happy Dance Song. I can post the lyrics here. It works on the level that it clears the song out of your head, but it puts itself in. The lyrics were written by a counselor at my camp named Eli Cohn Wein and can be sung to any tune. Here goes.
This is the happy dance,
The happy dance, The happy dance,
This is the happy dance, The happy happy dance.
(Spanish version)
Esta es el Happy Dance,
El Happy Dance, El Happy Dance,
Esta es el Happy Dance,
El Happy, Happy Dance.
(Hebrew version)
Zeh Ha Rikud Sameach
Rikud Sameach Rikud Sameach
Zeh Ha Rikud Sameach
Rikud Rikud Sameach
(German Version)
Das Ist Der Happy Dans
Der Happy Dans, Der Happy Dans
Das Ist Der Happy Dans,
Der Happy Happy Dans
(French version)
C’est la danse heureuse,
La danse heureuse, la danse heureuse,
C’est la danse heureuse, la danse heureuse heureuse.
There probably are more verses. These are all I can remember.
i got some opeth from glassy. kind of freaking love.
i want to hear the new new metallica if anybody has it…it’s supposed to be really good
(i call it the new new metallica because new metallica is from when they started sucking to their newest album. i’ve heard like one song but it didn’t suck :D)
61- Ah yes, that one. Well, that’s a bit different. With him, just try to avoid him; try not to raise your hand in class and sprint for the door as soon as you’re dismissed. If he can’t make contact with you, then he’ll probably back down eventually. You’re so lucky; we can’t play piano in our band. The pianists (Annah and myself) play drums, bells or xylophone. Doesn’t take that much talent.
65- They’re selling their new album at Hot Topic for 5$ right now. (I frequent Hot Topic; my friend’s dad is the manager :D)
I like the song Monsoon by Tokio Hotel. It’s so catchy!
65- Really, it doesn’t suck? I’ll look into it then… the only new Metallica I’ve heard is St. Anger, which is horrible.
66- “:roll: Doesn’t take that much talent”? Those instruments take talent to play well, and anyone with that attitude probably does not play well.
I have not been on MB in a while! *waves hello*
On recent musical decisions, I’ve decided that Rihanna is OK.
And also, I cannot stand Tom DeLonge and never have. Though “The War” by Angels & Airwaves is on my iPod (it’s okayyy).
And I am probably going to see The Academy Is… on their first tour date. *grins hugely*
4- Matchbook Romance? My English teacher’s son is in that. She talks about him all the time, it’s kind of annoying. The band’s okay.
21- Once I tried that. I was met with scorn. Good times in eighth grade…
48- One song with all of them? That’s hard.
58- JOIN JAZZ BAND BECAUSE IT IT TOTALLY COOL AND AWESOME AND- sorry about that. If you really don’t want to, say so and the teacher might understand.
I want to go to another concert but none is convenient. I want to be in the mosh pit again but I don’t know of/have time for the bands playing at the local venue.
68-the academy is is good. i liked their old stuff a lot better though. the new cd sounds like they’re trying too hard and they end up being pretty typically emo-esque and sucky, like five million other bands out there.
70 – I like their older stuff better too, but I still love Fast Times. They just change their sound a lot with each album and for this one it’s more summery, high schooly. But I know what you mean.
I AM THE WALRUS!
72- Goo goo g’joob!
50~ Sarcasm there, Oh, I misread what you’d said before, only ONE song???? That’s ridiculous. I have no idea.
Umm. I had “Makes me Happy” by Drake Bell stuck in my head for almost a week.
Now I have “Whiskey Before Breakfast” and “Boys of Bluehill” (both trad) chasing each other around the big empty space between my ears. Probably because I just learned both of those on the concertina….yay!
Yesterday I got my copy of English International, a three CD set of all English concertina (what I play), JOYJOYJOY!!!!!!!! I’ve had the earphones glued to my ears all yesterday and today, WHAT FUN, WHAT FUN!!!!!!!!!
I want to go to a bookstore and browse the CD isles, I feel like splurging and buying myself a bunch of music………..of course, then I’d revert to my usual miserly ways.
27-Yeah, it has no in-deapth meaning or sweet electric guitar intros, but its still like, good to listen to when you’re in a convertable car with hydraulics.
66-This guy is always at the Hot Topic everytime I go there. Every. Time. He’s there a lot.
Speaking of Hot Topic, I haven’t been there in a while due to acute brokeness.
Anyways. New Fave Song: Curse of Curves, by Cute Is What We Aim For. Very catchy.
70-Ugh. Yes.
72-No. Bono is the Walrus.
I got invited to a Panic! concert on Halloween, and its the last time they play the good songs from A Fever You Can’t Sweat Out, and it’s my first concert, and Clairssa’s first real concert, and MOM WON’T LET ME GO.
GOD.
73- Expert texpert choking smokers don’t you think the joker laughs at you
73- I am we as they are he as we are she and we are all together (or something to that effect).
Has anyone heard of the British band The Hours?
Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.
AhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!
OK.
This Saturday is a free concert with The Offspring and The Bravery.
I know.
Gosh.
And Benji Madden is DJing at some point, but THE OFFSPRING…
And I remember recently thinking how awesome it would be if they came here…gossssh….
Plus, Katy Perry is coming here in October, but it’s an eighteen and over show. Which I guess is sort of a relief because then I don’t have to worry about going, because I just can’t go!
And then there’s the TAI concert, still, which I still don’t know the answer to. :/ But hopefully… Yeah, mostly I want to go to TAI.
78-AHHH! Tell me where you live so I can go!!! Have fun. *whimper* I really wanna go!
Hah, I’m such a weirdo. At the session last week I was chatting to the fiddler next to me, and he asked me who I like to listen to, i answered a few names, and then remembered that I had my iPod in my case, so I fished it out and handed it to him to browse through the artist list…..he recognized most of it, nodding and occasionally raising the eyebrows when he came across something (“Echo and the Bunnymen?!?! “Ooh, yeah, I like so-and-so’s stuff…” “Charlotte Church, she’s good…”) When he handed it back he was laughing, “Wow, you are a tradhead!”
It would be amusing to post a list of the artists I have on there………the GAPAs would probably falling off their chairs in hysterics.
Hmm, I should go raid my parent’s CDs, now that they’re both out of the house…………..
80- Do you like cajun music? Or Red clay ramblers?
(80) Echo and the Bunnymen! In 1983, I inadvertently had dinner with them in Stornoway, Scotland. I was seated by myself at a corner table when they came in and took over all the surrounding tables. They were funny and gregarious and quickly included me in their conversation. Little did the Bunnymen know they were dining with the future Lady Bunniful.
Sadly, I didn’t get to hear them play. I was spending the night on the ferry, which had an early curfew.
81~ I’ll listen to just about anything these days. I don’t usually listen to cajun music, though. Any groups that I should look up?
I’ve never heard of the Red Clay Ramblers, either..
82~ Cool. I have one song by them, “Seven Seas” that a friend sent me one time. I like it quite a bit, I was listening to it earlier today, in fact. Sadly, I have a lot of individual songs that I like, but no more by that group…..but I am in music aquisition mood, so that may change if I can haul myself (or, more aptly, get my parents or someone who can drive to haul me) to a bookstore……..I actually want to go shopping, quite an unusual feeling for me, let me assure you!! =]
I borrowed Opal’s portable DVD player today, unfortunately, any area at school where you’re allowed to listen to music is pretty much deafening, so .
I put my iTunes on Shuffle. It’s a rather disconnected list that’s come up so far, but since I like everything on my iTunes, I’m happy enough.
Or wait. Just a sec.
There. I had to get rid of The Sound of Silence in order to protect my sanity.
83 Bois-Sec Ardoin, Balfa Brothers, and Bruce Daigrepont. Those are my favorites anyways. As for the Red Clay Ramblers, they come from the College Triangle area in North Carolina and perform traditional appalachian tunes. The best album is Rambler, but they don’t sell that on Itunes. You might get it at tower records or something. The second best (and most famous) is Merchants Lunch. That’s on itunes.
84~ The Sound of Silence? That’s from Simon and Garfunkel, right? How funny, I was just going to go down to the barn and steal Dad’s CD of theirs……..
85~ I’ll look that up. I never buy stuff from iTunes, I prefer actually having the CD in my possession.
Okay, I’m off to the barn to steal dad’s CDs……..wheee!!!!
I am currently suffering under an acute case of Music Acquisition Syndrome. I feel feverish and crave the atmosphere of a bookstore, my ears ring, my head is stuffed with songs and snippets of tunes, and I feel the need to spend all the money I have on CDs. In short, I’m in a very impulsive mood, all CDs within reach are fair game…..
84-what’s wrong with the sound of silence?
81-i’m intrigued. what exactly is cajun music?
(89) See comment 63.
89- Cajuns: former Quebecois (sp?) who were forced out of quebec by the british when they took Canada. Moved to the bayous of Louisiana. still speak french and play songs that sound like fr-canadian fiddling mixed with creole/african rythyms. pretty freaking sweet.
91~ I’ve not heard a whole lot of Quebecois music, but what I have I really like. I once got to listen to a CD of contemprary/folk French-Canadian music, wow. It was interesting and quite nice, I wish I’d have written down the title so I could find it again…..darn.
Anyway, the French-Canadian fiddling is has a wonderful sound to it, I’d love to learn the clogging that they do while playing, it adds such a wonderful dimension and the rhythms are fantastic.
(Go look up Jean Carrigan. Now.)
What’s the best TMBG Album?
OMIGOSH!!! YAY!!!
So, I got home for our choir practice, and guess what. WE’RE SINGING ONE OF MY FAVORITE SONGS EVER!
ORINOCO FLOW! THAT’S RIGHT! I’m am PUMPED. We sound ok, it’s good most of us can hit the high notes I guess. We practice at the my school after school, even though most of us don’t even go to my school. My music teacher and a bunch of other people I don’t know direct it, we’ve been singing for only a few years, but anyway, I can’t believe we get to sing Orinoco Flow! I was really surprised because it is a hard song. I hope we get it right!
I just added a bazillion Beatles songs to my iPod. I don’t even know half of them. But yay!
58 – Do jazz band. It’s pwnsome.
Speaking of which, I’m trying out for Jazz Band II (on trumpet) next week. I’m the only trumpet who’s signed up so far, but I have a feeling more people will sign up.
By the way, does anyone have any tips on playing a brass instrument with braces?
96-That sounds tricky. I’ve got braces, but luckily I play piano. I have a friend who used to play trumpet and has braces, and she was fine. (As far as I know.)
Yay! I worked out the intro to a song I’m writing. I love writing music, even if it is goth-ish tunes. I’m not a goth, though. Just it sounds like goth rock, if you listen to the tune.
I just finished my song. My friends were joking around and calling it “Twinkle Star Land; Where Dreams Come True!” We were making up annoying stuff like that. But I just call it Rolling Plains, randomly. It’s a soft rock song, guitar and piano, my sister is working on putting cello into it, not much though.
96-eep. can’t help, i’ve never had braces. seems like it would be difficult though…idk, guess you’d just need a way different embouchure. i know people who have done it, but i don’t know how they did it
i have a last.fm now. it’s pretty spiffalicious
Search “Albuquerque Weird Al” on YouTube to find a very funny song. Type thing. It’s about this guy. And he basically talks about his life. The whole thing is built around Albuquerque and sauerkraut. Kind of. He gets on to random stories. Anyway, it’s really funny.
Weird Al is cool, I wouldn’t say he’s anywhere near my top 10 composer-artist-things, but he has a few really funny songs.
“Way back when I was just a little bitty boy living in a box under the stairs in the corner of the basement of the house half a block down the street from Jerry’s Bait shop
You know the place
well anyway, back then life was going swell and everything was just peachy
Except, of course, for the undeniable fact that every single morning
My mother would make me a big ol’ bowl of sauerkraut for breakfast
Awww – Big bowl of sauerkraut
Every single mornin’
It was driving me crazy
I said to my mom
I said “Hey, mom, what’s up with all the sauerkraut?”
And my dear, sweet mother
She just looked at me like a cow looks at an oncoming train,
And she leaned right down next to me
And she said,
“IT’S GOOD FOR YOU!!!”
And then she tied me to the wall and stuck a funnel in my mouth
And force fed me nothing but sauerkraut until I was twenty six and a half years old”
That’s the beginning.
100 – Yeah, it messes up your embouchure. I have my tone pretty much under control at this point but it often dies on high notes (and even sort of high notes) and often it included my mouth being poked with various wires.
101-One of my guy friends recited that ENTIRE THING to me this summer. It was one of the strangest things I’d ever heard.
96- I play the clarinet with braces, but I doubt that will help. Practice! Just pretend that the braces aren’t there. Wait, I can’t help you! We have a whole different mouth positioning, and I started with braces! What was I thinking?! But surely, there’s someone else who can help you…?
Has anyone heard of the song Shadow of the Day? I can’t remember who it’s by, but it’s a great song.
103 – Yeah, a couple of the geeks at school have the whole thing memorized. I memorize really fast, and I’ve heard it at least five times (if you include the times the guy recites it at school), so I’m pretty close to full memorization. Great song. Crazy + awesome = Weird Al Yankovic.
I just watched Carrot Juice is Murder on YouTube. Great song, and they all have good voices too.
105 – I just went to Youtube. It’s by Linkin Park. Not really my style, but cool song and interesting ideas.
105- Linkin Park. It’s probably one of their better songs, which isn’t saying much. I’m not a huge fan of them.
101-I can recite the lyrics when I’m listening to the song, but otherwise I don’t have them memorized. That’s a funny song, though.
105-Isn’t that Linkin Park? It’s one of my least favorite songs from them.
Listening to: The Beautiful People by Marilyn Manson. Last song: Dragula by Rob Zombie. See a trend today?
105- Er, no.
105 – I have. I think it’s pretty good.
67- My drum part is on ONE drum (the kind they use for executions in old movies) and consists of the following.
Half note
Quarter note
Quarter note
Eighth note
Half note
Whole not
Repeat.
For six minutes.
69- *gaspity gasp gasp gasp* Can you PLEASE ask your teacher for an autograph and somehow get it to me?????????????????
74- Sugar We’re Going Down Swingin’ was stuck in my head for, literally, 2 weeks. I had one of those tally marks that prisoners use above my bed, and I made a mark for every day it was stuck in my head. I almost called a psycologist.
75- Yeah, that’s like me and my bffls from school. We are there every time each of us acquires money. (ie, “OMG, I just got $2!!!!!!!!! Let’s go to Hot Topic!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
78- Katy Perry scares me, even though I liked I Kissed a Girl.
78- If I hear “I Kissed A Girl” or “When I grow Up” one more time, I will kill someone.
Does anyone else here play the recorder? I can play two at once.
112-I must agree with that. I mean, it’s okay, but it gets REALLY annoying after about five repetitions.
112- My sister does. She’s currently learning play the oboe, which sounds like a duck being strangled.
I play the violin in my school orchestra. I think a lot of Weird Al songs are funny, especially A Complicated Song. My favorite song currently is Unwritten by Natasha Bedingfield. I recently heard a song called Stand In The Rain, and now it’s stuck in my head.
devin and andy both just got the dr horrible soundtrack, which means they’ve both been playing it at me pretty constantly, and being the geek that i am i know all the words so i’ve been singing along. so it’s stuck in my head. a lot. like every song, in order, and then back to the beginning
yeah i’m sad…
devin and i started making a playlist of songs for our band spread. the main issue is finding things that are appropriate (or that you can’t hear the words to)
Listening to right now:
Song Name: Nirvana
Album Name: Love
Artist: The Cult
anyway…
Currently:
Shout by Tears for Fears.
I grew up with these old 80’s songs – my dad loved them and played them. They were my sister’s lullabies when she was a baby. So now I have most of them on my iPod.
Love Me Dead by Ludo is the best song in the world, right now!!!!!!!!! Look it up, watch it, listen to it, love it. You will not regret it!!!!!!!!!
currently…
My Name Is Jonas
Weezer
The Blue Album (Weezer)
Right now I’m listening to…
Orange Jam
I think it’s by Jeffrey Bishop.
Ok, great, it’s done I like it.
And now…
Edelweiss, from The Sound of Music.
Next up will be Within You Without You, by The Beatles.
Um, right now I’m listening to Ultimate Showdown. The chorus reminds me of the battle scene in the Sparklypoo comic. The link is at https://musefanpage.com/blog/?p=30 . Click post 11.
I’m currently listening to:
song: “Poor Old Horse/Portsmouth”
CD: Tales of the Brigantine
Artist: The Pyrates Royale
Thoughts: The poor horse! Wait, that verse is from a different chanty, why did they use it here??? *is suddenly confused*
~~~~~
the other day I met a member of a group that plays “pirate” music, sea chanties and such, and he wanted me to get ahold of them and have an audition to join……said they were looking for a concertinist, of a fiddler for that matter, the fact that I can sing probably didn’t hurt either.
So, do I want to do it? Maybe. They look like an interesting bunch from what I gather from the website……..frequenters of Renaissance Faires, I see…hmm. I think Ren Faires are fun, as a big fantasy pary, but they ARE NOT HISTORY. I’m sorry, there’s a thin verneer of historical trappings, but that doesn’t make it educating at all. If anything, it should be strictly fantasy, with no history worked in to confuse people.
Hmm, I’d also have to go pretty far to the rehearsals, maybe when I can drive myself……that may work, but the traffic there is probably rather fierce for a beginning driver…….*thinks*
We’ll see.
song listening to now:
“The Brigantine”
CD: Tales of the Brigantine
Artist: The Pyrates Royale
thoughts: Nice, but I’m tired and should be sleeping, not blogging.
Good night!
93- depends on your opinion. I don’t think there is a best, all I’ve heard is pretty good. My favorite is John Henry right now, with Flood and The Else tied for second… if you’re just starting and looking for a good album, The Else is their most recent and is what they sound like now. What songs do you like?
111- That drum part doesn’t add up unless it’s in a really weird meter…
Also, I would ask, but I don’t think she would get an autograph for me and I don’t know how to get it to you, so apologies but no.
Someone I know suggested The Postal Service to me and for the last week or two whatever I can find on youtube has been stuck in my head. I want an album, but on the other hand if I get it I no longer have an excuse to borrow his mp3 player.
111/124- Yeah, I can’t even think of a really weird meter that would work for that. The eighth note messes it up. Without the eighth note, it would have to be in 2/4, in which case the whole note doesn’t make sense; it would be half note tied to a half note. So, in conclusion, the eighth note should be a half note and then it would be in 4/4.
Orchestra audition tomorrow, woo. I’m playing a timpani excerpt from Dvorak 7, a snare drum etude, and possibly a short timpani etude. (I have a lesson tomorrow, in which I’ll find out about whether or not I’m playing the timpani etude.)
125- I suppose calling it 21/8 is cheating?
112-“When I grow up, I wanna be a star, I wanna be famous, I wanna be in movies!”
PCD is a sham. Nicole Shertzwatever does all the vocals AND background, and there’s nothing to suggest Jessica, Kimberly, Melody, Ashley or anyone else isn’t just eye candy.
Currently: Becoming the Bull
Atreyu
Lead Sails, Paper Anchor
126- Yeah… I really doubt there would be any insanely weird time signatures in school band.
Finally! Ok, well, you might be wondering why I just said that. I heard that in 6th grade (next year) I will get to play guitar for this orchestra thing called Swinging Strings. Last year and this year I didn’t get to be in band or orchestra (though I occasionally played piano as an accompanist for solos) and I really wanted to. So I get to play my guitar! All I have to do is play some really easy chords.
Well, my school has a choir, so now I’m in two choirs. So far, we’ve been practicing Orinoco Flow a lot, and we’re going to sing it at the town winter parade (we sing a few songs every year), we’ve got a few percussionists from the highschools to play with us. For the parade we’re singing Sleigh Ride, Orinoco Flow (this was a random choice, but we all wanted to sing it), Winter Wonderland, and Do You Hear What I Hear? For the last one, I’m in a small group that sings the solo. I didn’t audition, because I usually don’t for solos, but one of the kids can’t go to the festival, so I’m filling in for him. Finally, at the end of the parade, our choir and a bunch of other ones sing Holly Jolly Christmas.
130~ With Mary Dillon???? I HAVE THAT!!!!!
We’ve gotta get together someday.
131-
Now I’m listening to Luna Park (album) by Kila. Supposedly it’s Celtic, but it reminds me in places of, I dunno, Brazilian music, that sort of thing. Not bad, though. Just different.
Does anybody else here like or know of the Greek composer Vangelis? His stuff is awesome, especially the themes from COSMOS.
132-You’re not serious! I love Kila, and you’re the first person I’ve ever, ever “met” (besides my Dad, who doesn’t count) who has heard of them.
I’ve heard the name Vangelis, but I don’t think I’ve ever listened to any of his music… or maybe I have and I just haven’t realized it. XD
Not sure about my favorite TMBG album… Maybe I should just listen to all the ones I have (and all the parts of ones I have) again so that maybe I could decide. It’s a good idea, no? *runs off to find buried and lost mp3 player*
133–Yeah, I really like him. He did the scores for Bladerunner and Alexander as well.
Anyone know who the song Werewolves in London is by? I’ve liked it since I was, like, 8, but I was never able to figure it out.
Just heard a cover of it at this benifit thing I went to instead of homecoming…
134- Wow! I never knew so many people listened to the same stuff as I do.
136-I looove that song!! It’s cool.
136-Warren Zevon. and jimmy buffett covers it. i didn’t know that either…good song though
129- Yay! Sounds cool.
136- According to Google, it’s by Warren Zevon. There’s also a song called “American Werewolves in London” by Wednesday 13.
135- Yup, and Chariots of Fire!
The Automatic Automatic- Monster
Pwnsome song. Not rap.
Awesome song! It’s unusual and you have to get used to it, but if you listen to the whole thing you will be singing and raving about it. Why Don’t you Love Me by Mika. So good! And the singer is hawt (MissSwann bonus!)
Oops, it’s called Grace Kelly. (whoops).
132~ I have one song by Kila……only one, and I don’t listen to it too much, but it’s alright.
I like the opening theme to Naruto. It’s stuck in my head right now.
So I am 99% sure I am going to the Academy Is… concert in two days.. Excited!
I know one song by each of the opening bands…yeahh..
And I want to get the CD In Love and Death by The Used. The art’s really cool too – the guy who does the album art for The Used (and the vid for All That I’ve Got) does art for Aiden too..
147-i like their first cd. not a huge fan of their later stuff though
The song “They Reminisce Over You” by Pete Rock, which I only knew the existence of after last night, is now my favorite song. It is incredibly beautiful- its talking about a friend of the musician who was killed, almost reduced me to tears. I advise everyone to go hear it on youtube and tell me what you think.
Has anyone listened to the song I recommended? Grace Kelly by Mika?
I am not listening to anything at the moment. But going to iTunes, selecting party shuffle, and picking my favorite song…
I’m going with “All You Need is Love” on Bach meets the Beatles.
151- Bach meets the Beatles???
Description of today’s band performance- Somebody shoot the brass section. They’re in pain.
Mr. Fish (that’s based off his real name, but not really. T_T) hasn’t critcized the clarinets yet (YES). He only has time to yell at the trumpets, the trombones, and the saxes.
Oh, yeah, guess what chair I am? SECOND! And the first clarinet is actually supposed to be in CHAMBER band, but he really wanted to do advanced science, so he isn’t in chamber band (although he’s regretting it), so, technically, I’m first chair! YAY!
I’ll stop.
I’m crying now because I’m listening to “For Good” from Wicked. It always makes me cry.
154- Really? It has a nice tune, but the saddest song is probably No Good Deed.
155-No Good Deed is one of my favorites. That also makes me cry sometimes. It usually gets stuck in my head all day after I listen to it.Defying Gravity does too.
156- I’ve memorized both, along with a whole lotta others.
last night we had a game and j’s been letting people leave after halftime if they get something signed from their parents saying they have to be up early or something. so all the cross country kids left, and most of them are trumpets. then devin’s mom made him go home because of the SAT. so the trumpet section was me (i can play the stuff but i’m not loud), carolyn (doesn’t know some of the music but is generally fairly good), and max (freshman, doesn’t know most of the stand stuff). it was bad.
152 – It’s Beatles songs arranged in the style of Bach.
154, 156 – For Good is right up there at the top (along with Defying Gravity and sometimes Popular), but I’ve never been fond of No Good Deed.
158 – Ouch. I remember when our top trumpet was kicked out of jazz band for the day last year.
159-ouch. there’s a story there what’d he/she do?
160 – He talked when the director was talking and basically just goofed off except when he was playing. Our director was getting impatient with the lack of the cooperation during rehearsals (aka the quintessential quality of our jazz band). We were awful without him.
161- Our first trumpet sucks.
161-are you kidding, that’s what our entire trumpet section does. and most of the low brass. and then the flutes talk constantly but when the band gets yelled at they always turn to us and yell “shut uuup” even when they were the only ones talking
(i’m not a huge fan of the flutes. or the clarinets, for that matter. actually most of the woodwinds. actually, all the woodwinds minus two flutes, one clarinet (sometimes), one alto sax, one tenor sax, and one bari sax (sometimes))
Am I the only clarinetist on this blog?!
163- Hey, don’t stereotype the sections!
There’s this girl who sits behind me that the first chair, Bagel (he’s quite nice), and I both really hate. She hates us, too. She’s like, fifteenth chair, and she says I don’t deserve my chair and that she’ll challenge me. That’s impossible, as she’s fifteenth and I’m second. I made a really speedy comeback today, and Bagel called me a “natural disser.” Bagel’s really supposed to be a sixth grader like me, but he skipped second grade, so now I’m surronded by seventh graders. *sigh*
Melon is a percussionist and Pear is second trombone. Mr. Fih really hates the saxes and the trumpets, but he only yells at the percussion and trombones once in a while, and he’s fine with the flutes and clarinets. ^-^
Busta Rhymes- Woo Ha (I Got You All In Check)
awesome song.
I’ve been introduced to Joan Baez (well, her music, not her). It’s really good. I like “Silver Dagger” and “Mary Hamilton”. And “Sweet Sir Galahad” always makes me cry. But I’m not a huge fan of the country songs, y’know?
I hate the stupid “barbie girl” song. Whenever I hear it, I want to claw my eyes out or bash whatever radio or mp3 device is playing it.
167- I hate all pop music. That includes rappers that have songs on the radio like Soulja Boy and lil wayne. They are not rap, they are pop. If you really, really hate rap, I suggest listening to The Roots- especially the song “What They Do”. I would love to hear feedback from people who vehemently hate rap and listen to this song.
I’m currently addicted to the soundtrack of the anime Mermaid Melody.
Go to youtube. Search for Feltbeats. Listen to the three videos posted by Tom. I just discovered his music, and omg, he has such an incredible voice–and his looks certainly don’t hurt, lol. Seriously, he is clearly quite talented in more than just acting. (In case you don’t know, Tom Felton is the actor who plays Draco Malfoy in the Potter movies.)
167- I think “Ugly Girl” is a very nice twisted version of the song.
come on guys, that song only exists to make fun of.
…right? nobody really listens…to…that…
song…oh god, people do…
if anyone needs me i’ll be crying in a corner somewhere
I was under the impression that the Barbie Girl song was written to kind of make fun of Barbies. Kind of. It wasn’t meant to be like “OMG I LOVE that song! It’s like the most played song on my iPod!”
Or that’s what I thought.
154-For Good always makes me cry too. Not That Girl is really sad too, although it depends on the mood I’m in.
163-That’s the flutes! I played flute last year and the year before, and they were all girls who hated me. Fun, eh?
167-Thanks. Now it’s in my head.
Um, I’m with the “I thought it wasn’t really a song to listen to” crowd.
So. Go look up Vitamin String Quartet. They make amazing classical versions of rock songs. My Chemical Romance, HIM, Coldplay, Radiohead, Metallica, Panic!, almost anything. I love them.
Aqua’s song ‘Barbie Girl’ is of course making fun of Barbie and pop cultuyre (or they make an attempt at doing so.) However, Aqua is, in my opinion, crap in general.
It was also Denmarks largest money maker in some parts of the nineties….
167- I’M A BARBIE GIRL/ IN A BARBIE WORRRRLD
AHHHHHHHHH! That’s this popular girl’s ringtone and her boyfriend WOULDN’T STOP TEXTING HER and the song was playing OVER and OVER and OVER and OVER… and it was on a FIELD TRIP, and I couldn’t ESCAPE it because we were in a STATION WAGON that was smaller than my SHOWER… AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
175- Looks cool, I’ll look them up…….
Grace Kelly, Mika, anyone? It’s not a bad song… look it up please?????
-explanation for TAI show-
Okay, so I did go!! But I had to leave at 10:45, so I missed…half of TAI’s set maybe? Not sure.. But we were in the second row!!! And we met William Beckett and Michael Guy Chislett (I have pictures!)! Apparently afterwords my friends met William again and Hey Monday and Carolina Liar and others… I’m still pretty happy though.
I think that the comment box is shrinking again.
And Muse is amazing. Get Black Holes and Revelations if you get the chance.
178- I do agree that Muse is amazing.
So, I currently can’t listen to anything on Youtube but POtential Breakup Song, Don’t Jump, and a lot of Lemon Demon. And Tom Lehrer.
177- I recommended Mika to you!!
Also; Coldplay fans? Beatle fans? Just wondering…
180- We are ALL Beatles fans. Except for Cliff Eagle… and even he might me… i dunno…
179 – I like the Potential Breakup Song, despite the singers.
Muse in any shape or form is amazing.
178- I love Muse! That album is great.
179- Potential Breakup Song annoys me, but I have it on my iPod anyway because it brings back memories of camp.
180- I like both The Beatles and Coldplay, but I like the Beatles a lot more. Coldplay is boring at times.
YAY BEATLES!
Does anyone like the Monkees besides me and Zinc?
I found a new artist the other day. Well, two, actually, if you want to be technical. The Watson Twins are these identical alternative singers with the most gorgeous voices. They came out with a new album called Fire Songs. I have the entire thing on my album, and they really are amazing. In addition to having lovely vocals, their songs aren’t the kitsch crap that gets blasted into your ears pretty much everywhere else.
Check ’em out! My favorite songs of theirs are “How Am I To Be”, “Waves”, and “Map To Where You Are”.
185- Hm… I dunno. Although I’ve only listened to one, so I’ll keep trying.
184- I like the Monkees!
182- The Beatles and Coldplay are awesomely awesome.
Today I wrote a few random lyrics in the margin of my spelling test because I was so incredibly bored. And I was just writing random words, and they happened to rhyme. That’s usually when I get my good ideas (and that doesn’t happen much). What surprised me most was when I got it back, my teacher wrote “I hope your writing this down somewhere.” and nobody ever looks at my doodles and stuff. Kinda odd.
187- I have a similar problem, except I write down lyrics to sad songs, thinking back to fourth and fifth grade…
184- They’re okay.
Coldplay bugs the crap out of me, but the Beatles are undeniably awesome. Queen is good too! (going through a Queen phase).
I’m writing a song. And the music. The guitar chords are basically C, D11, and Emin, so far. And the lyrics are frustrating me, but I’m working through them.
Hey hey flutes aren’t all bad. I, for one, am made of win.
Barbie Girl is only a good song when Brandon is playing it on his trombone and thrusting his hips, then it is amusing.
181- Are you freaking daft? I’m cool with the beatles. Especially “Eleanor Rigby” and “I Am the Walrus” and “The Magical Mystery tour.”
Has anyone heard of the Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain?
179- Have you heard Knights of Cydonia or Starlight? Those are my favorite by them.
188- Yeah, except for me, it’s more, well, a bored kind of randomness thingy, I can’t describe it. Here’s what I wrote (I think)
Fear’s shadow creepin’ up on me
why did this happen
how can it be?
Turning, twisting
flying high
why must life go by and by?
An aberrant snowflake wandering away…
Which actually isn’t that good. The rest of the paper was full of smilies and other random words. Nothing about school being prison or anything like usual.
190 – Flutes… can’t say I like them. Though actually my closest friends in the middle school band were flutes. I actually had more close friends in chorus.
192- It’s mostly Hallelujah, Yesterday, and Eleanor Rigbey.
Do you know how friggin’ scary it is to be listening to Nightmare on Elm Street’s theme song in the dark and imagining shadows from around the corner? Seriously. The song freaks me out.
191- Well I don’t know, you’re always going on about rap, and most people who like rap dislike anything that isn’t rap, from my expirience… sorry?
194- Really? What about that ring tone from One Missed Call? I nearly gave myself a heart attack by doing that.
195-I know people like that. But I also like world music and some rock. World music is awesome. Especially from one of these areas:
Turkey
Armenia
Chechnya
Circassia
Ireland
Cajun
Bulgaria
Macedonia
Albania
Tajikistan
Bluegrass
Bosnia
Peruvian
Gypsy
178-You met William Beckett! *jealous* He’s SO HOT.
192-Who hasn’t heard Knights of Cydnoia? It’s on Guitar Hero, for gosh’s sake.
Across the Universe’s versions of the Beatles songs are amazing.
Yeah. I got a Marilyn Manson shirt yesterday.
195- I’ve never heard of it. I’ll look it up on Youtube! ^-^
197- I haven’t for one. (Awkward…)
198-Are you a Muse fan? If you’re not, it’s okay.
197-some are, some aren’t.
Muse is ok…
I like beatles and the monkees. coldplay’s boring or brilliant, depending on the song
199- No… whyt dot yout askt?
200- Yay for the Beatles and the Monkees!!!
has anybody heard of the bravery? they’re really good
also, i’m going to see the kooks tomorrow and then the columbus jazz group, whatever they’re called now (used to be jag), and then thursday there’s a choir concert that i’ll probably go to.
The Nightmare Revisited album finally showed up at Hot Topic! It’s amazing. Best songs:
This is Halloween by Marilyn Manson
Kidnap the Sandy Claws by KoRn
Making Christmas by Rise Against
I love it.
200- WORSHIP the Beatles, love you John Lennin, and love “Clocks” and “Yellow” by Coldplay.
Anyone: “But you” by the Moldy Peaches, or “Bold as Love” by John Mayer?
*pops in* 204 – It’s Lennon. *vanishes*
205- *gaspy gasp* Where did he/she go!!!????!?!!!?!!?
204- Em, if you worship The Beatles, why did you spell John’s name wrong? It could mess up the entire worshiping ceremony. You sound kinda like me, The Beatles are the gods, John Lennon is Zeus, and Coldplay are the Muses (ahem, the old ones). John Mayer is pretty awesome too. I haven’t heard of the Mold Peaches.
PAUL MCCARTNEY AND THE FIREMAN HAVE A NEW SONG THAT IS ACTUALLY PRETTY GOOD. I KNOW. SURPRISING. ALL HIS EARLIER WORK WAS SO MUCH BETTER. NOW IT JUST SUCKS. BUT, IT IS ACTUALLY GOOD. It’s called Sing the Changes. And sorry if you got annoyed by the all caps. I just had to
197- The Across the Universe versions aren’t bad, but I like the originals better.
205/207- You know, i and o are next to each other on the keyboard… it could have been a typo.
208- “Let It Be” and “I Am the Eggman” were the best. But I agree, the original ones were better.
Does anyone else here play Irish music? I play the pennywhistle.
I like the AtU versions; I’ve Just Seen a Face is the best.
209- No Irish music, but Japanese music galore.
I’m so geeky……. I don’t even have an iPod…….. The only songs I know are capoeira songs…….. I feel immature……….
210-i thought i’ve just seen a face was fantastic sped up, as do most of my friends. so we sing it that way. the bf hates it, but he refuses to sing so he can’t slow us down
You want fast? Friends of mine and I used to perform that as a bluegrass song.
209- In ‘Across the Universe’ they make I Am the Walrus seem, well, creepy almost.
I’m not a huge fan of Across the Universe ( the movie, not the song. The song is flamablamablous). This is partially why:
I was in the city and you know how sometimes, you just randomly hear music from maybe a concert not far away or some building? Yeah, well, someone was playing Strawberry Fields, and some teenager was like (to her friend) “OMG it’s that song from Across the Universe! I love it! Jim Sturgess is like the best singer ever!” I grew red in the face, and if my sister hadn’t stopped me I would’ve, well, you get the picture.
I also don’t like how the stinkin Jonas Brothers did a cover of Hello Goodbye. All the kids at school were all “Do you like the song Hello Goodbye?” and I said yeah and then they exploded and said “I KNOW, THE JONAS BROTHERS ARE THE BEST BAND EVER! The song is so awesome! I can’t believe they wrote it!”
AND you know what I did. “That’s because the didn’t!!!!! THE BEATLES DID. AND THE BEATLES ARE THE BEST.” AND all of them asked who are The Beatles. OH MY GOSH.
Heh, well, yeah, that’s about it. As you can see, I think the Jonas Brothers and all those other corrupt Disney people suck.
214 – The kids at your school don’t know who the Beatles are? That’s just sad.
213-hahaha…i REALLY want to hear that. you should record it and put it up here
214-hold on, i think i have some spare nukes here…where is your school again?
devin failed us all…he saw one of the jonas brothers drive by in a limo the night of their concert and DIDN’T shoot him
212- ‘The bf…’
213- Wow. *brain explodes*
214- AND THE ******* TARGET COMMERCIALS!!!!!!!!!!!! I WANTED TO MURDER MANY COMPANIES FOR THAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
215- *sighs and shakes head*
216- *sighhh* Too bad. Too, too bad. Shame, really.
Oh my cod, you guys have got to see these. Marching band videos!
The Difference Between Cheerleading and Marching Band
Cal Band- Big Game Video Game Show 2007
Don’t mess with a marching band!
These are so friggin’ funny!
Hey this is Zinc’s sister! And yes, I have posted on the phyte thread before.
I play clarinet in the marching band at my high school. We are the largest band in our town at 147 members, compared to the two other marching bands at 37 and around 50. We are a parade band, which means we compete primarily in parades, not field shows. We still do feild shows, but they are nowhere near as elaborate as feild show bands’ are.
We won first place in our town fair in early October. It was our tenth consecutive first place. (Yay us!) We missed out on sweepstakes by .5 to a marching band not even in our town, who had pulled out 40 of their worst members. All three band directors, particularly our’s, were furious. Mr. Koala(nickname!) who is really impassioned (he puts his heart and soul into the band) and drives us to our capacities was getting teary when he told us after the event that he would never, ever cut anyone from our band “if they have to cut 40 members out of their band to win, they can just take the trophy and shove it up their-” No, he didn’t actually say the less polite term for a donkey. The band stood up and we gave him a standing ovation.
I might be on somewhat infrequently to talk about the success (or failure, we’re going to a band review (HARD!) for the first time ever (we were established in 2004) and Mr. Koala is saying that he seriously wants to have competition and get his butt whupped) to you guys on the music thread (even though we don’t (luckily) have afterschool practices like many bands do, our music is hard, and I’m learning the oboe for symphonic band so I have to practice two insturments on top of high school homework).
Bye guys, thanks for listening! Please tell me if you like this kind of post. I know not everyone is a bando, but it is interesting! Thanks!
214-That is horrible. I would have stabbed those girls. And anyone who thinks the Jonas Brothers can do a better version of a Beatles song than the Beatles can.
The Vampire Beach Babes. Look up Gothc Surf-O-Rama. I don’t know why, but I love it.
Weird, IKR?
214- WHAAATT? WHO DID THIS???? I’LL FRY THEIR LOWLY LITTLE HEADS OFF! (yay for flamethrowers!)
217- I agree entirely. I swore my head off when I saw that commercial (luckily, I wasn’t in front of my mom. ).
221- Yeah… I cursed many advertising companies in…ah… slanderous ways. Unfortunately, my mother was present…
So, good band; Bullet for my Valentine.
At the dance last night, When I Grow Up was the last song. My friends and I, indignant that they didn’t play any good songs, shouted out our revised (and better) lyrics.
Bulls call you sexy
And you don’t care what they say
See every time you turn around they mooing your name
Now I’ve got a confession
When I was young I wanted attention
And I promised myself that I’d do anything
Anything at all for them to notice me
But I ain’t complaining
We all wanna be bovine
So go ahead and say what you wanna say
You don’t know what its like to be cowless
Want them to know what your species is
’cause see when I was younger I would say
When I grow up
I wanna be a cow
I wanna go moo
I wanna have black spots
When I grow up
I wanna be a cow
Milk good milk
I wanna have udders
When I grow up
Be milked each day
People can eat me
Be on ranches
When I grow up
Fuzzy and fat
Number one cow when I step out on the field
Be careful what you wish for ’cause you just might get it
You just might get it
You just might get it
Be careful what you wish for ’cause you just might get it
You just might get it
You just might get it
I used to tell them I was silly
Until I popped up on the pasture
I always wanted to be a moo-cow
And knew that givin’ milk would get me this far
But I ain’t complaining
We all wanna be bovine
So go ahead and say what you wanna say
You don’t know what its like to be cowless
Want them to know what your species is
’cause see when I was younger I would say
When I grow up
I wanna be a cow
I wanna go moo
Be careful what you wish for ’cause you just might get it
You just might get it
You just might get it
Be careful what you wish for ’cause you just might get it
You just might get it
You just might get it
I see them staring at me
Oh I’m a fat cow, yeah
Yes this is true ’cause what I do, no one can do it better
You can talk about me, ’cause I’m a moo topic
I see you watching me watching me and I know you want it
When I grow up
I wanna be a cow
I wanna be go moo
I wanna have black spots
When I grow up
I wanna be a cow
Milk good milk
I wanna have udders
When I grow up
Be milked each day
People can eat me
Be on ranches
When I grow up
Yes, thank you very much.
222- AHHH I hate that song! Those lyrics are hilarious
222- “I wanna have udders”! ROFL!!!
Oh gosh. I just listened to The Flames Beyond the Cold Mountain by Mono, and that song is AMAZING.
-raves-
222~ That’s good. I don’t know the original song, but those lyrics are hilarious.
Fern is very, very happy. She has two new CDs by Simon & Garfunkel, some of her favorite new music. Wednesday Morning, 3AM and Live From New York City, 1967, because that’s what was at the store. She is listening to them now, as she has been all day now.
I GOT AN iPOD!!!! I’m so excited!!! Actuallky, I’m waiting for Wicked to download onto it right now. Annnnd it’s done! Gotta go!
226- Simon himself is better than Simon and Garfunkel. Especially Graceland. That album is freaking awesome. And it has Ladysmith Black Mambazo on it which makes it like 10x better.
227- CONGRATS!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I’m getting one for my birthday….and thats about a month from now. *sighs impatiently*
so i’m moving everything back from my ipod to the computer…
i’m up to david bowie. it’s slow though because i’m reluctant to leave my ipod in the comp for extended periods of time (i wants it with me!)
228~ I dunno, I really like them together….but I’ll look that up.
The Monkees are awesomely awesome.
232- w00t! Monkees lovers UNITE! *high five* *oh yeah*
Hehe, I love “Summer In the City.” I’m listening to it too much.
Now, I really should go to bed, or I’ll be regretting this in the morning when I see all my posts stacked up against each other. So, gute nacht! Auf wiedersehen! Et cetera!
~Zinc the sorceress- Esse quam videri (I think I shall start signing my name (excluding RPGs) for a spell.)!
my ipod is dead. and i can listen on my computer, but of course i was still in the process of moving all my music back onto my computer from my ipod.
which means L-Z (including everything that starts with The, as senuti counts those as T’s) is gone pretty permanently. until i can download it or beg it off friends.
so my music is somewhat limited, and dominated by Rush, Flaming Lips, Sonata Arctica, and the Beatles, which were all on my computer before (in large quantities, i own basically everything those bands have ever done)
on the plus side for music, i’ve discovered my love for MC Frontalot. nerdcore FTW!
Are you aware that there is a 60’s song the starts with the words, “Yummy yummy yummy, I got love in my tummy, and I feel like lovin’ you”? If not, then now you are.
Twilight soundtrack out on iTunes!
It’s not bad, actually. They use Supermassive Black Hole because Stephanie Meyer’s favorite band is Muse (I think), and it’s not that bad for the opening song. Surprisingly enough.
Also, Paramore. Again, not too bad, but not my style.
Anyways. With this soundtrack, the movie won’t be too horrific. I think.
236- What is up with the people who designed what Edward looked like?? Vampires are NOT emo! Music: Okay, I guess.
223/4- Thanks so much. We have a lot of time on our hands, because we made a lobster version yesterday. And a vampire one.
237- Some of them are.
On Twilight Soundtrack: Pretty awesome, mostly. Supermassive Black Hole is amazing, it was stuck in my head all yesterday. I am obsessed with the Paramore songs, Decode especially. I forced my guitar teacher to give me the chords and now me/my other musical friends are making a sort of band arrangement with it to play at V’s birthday party. And Eyes on Fire is tres cool. Bella’s Lullaby is amazing. I have the sheet music pre-ordered on Amazon. Go All The Way is… well… a little bit more appropriate for Breaking Dawn. Wheeeee… If I were to make any changes to this CD, I would add more fast rock songs, and maybe something from the 20s, or 40s. Frank Sinatra-ish. And Debussy. I was sad at the lack of Debussy.
Probably the best non-Beatles/Monkees 60’s song is Summer in the City by The Lovin’ Spoonful. You’ve gotta love it!
*sings*
“All around, people lookin’ half-dead,
Walkin’ on the sidewalk hotter than a match-head…”
“But at night it’s a different world
Go out and find a girl”…
Good song!!! StillDoll by Kanon Wakeshima. It’s in Japanese but it’s vair cool.
“Come on, come on, lets dance all night. Despite the heat it’ll be alright and babe, don’t ya know it’s a pity the days, can’t be like the nights in the summer, in the city, in the summer.
*cars honking* ……..Hot town, summer in the city, back of my neck gettin’ dirt and gritty, all around, people lookin’ half dead, walkin’ on the sidewalks, hotter than a match head…..
Summer in the City by The Lovin’ Spoonfull
I wrote that all from memory.
Muse is ok. i kind of hate paramore. and you all should already know my opinion of twilight
i named my ipod Toki
238, 243–Wow, I’m listening to Bella’s Lullaby right now for the first time, and I have tears in my eyes. Makes me want Edward to exist even more, actually.
Anybody into Fall Out Boy? They have some kinda crazy lyrics, but they’re amusing and make you think…
I’ll listen to almost anything, but the Beatles were my first love.
I’m sad that marching season is just about over. I hope I’m not the only person waiting to see the Macy’s Thanksgiving parade just for the marching bands. Haha.
Has anyone heard “Heroes of our Time” by Dragonforce? It starts out kind of crazy, but then it gets to this a capella part that’s pretty much AMAZING. It’s on Youtube, if anyone’s interested.
Fave bands:
My Chemical Romance (particularly Black Parade)
Movie Soundtracks (ok, not technically a band, but whatev)
Dragonforce
Panic! at the Disco
Fallout Boy
Elvis
The Beatles
The Electric Light Orchestra
244 – I never even got to see my own school’s marching band… Technically, I did but it was during a pep rally and I could barely see them and I couldn’t hear them at all.
We had our first concert for Jazz Band II last night. In fact, it was the first concert I’ve played in in high school. (I missed the first band concert, because I was in New York.) We were pretty good, better than my middle school jazz band, but we couldn’t compare to Jazz Ensemble (top jazz band). They sounded like professionals.
237-WTF, Edward isn’t emo in the movie or the book.
Ew, I don’t get why everybody loves Edward. I hate him. They’re not even good books, and all the good ideas are stolen from Amelia Altwater-Rhodes’ Shattered Mirror and Demon In My View.
Ew, Fall Out Boy. Sellouts.
Panic! At the Disco’s good. I have the whole Fever album, minus the Intro and Intermission because I couldn’t find them on Project Playlist. Panic At the Disco? Not so much.
Now Supermassive Black Hole is going to be popular. Ick. And people are going to be like “OMG I LOVE MUSE” and only know what one song.
But we can pie them because Muse is like OUR Muse, so it’s like “OMG I LOVE MUSE” “MEE TOO *pie*” and they’re like “ahh scary man”.
Moment. Sorry.
244 – Love Fall Out Boy. What an incredibly underrated band.
Re: Supermassive Black Hole on Twilight Soundtrack
I don’t think it really goes with the movie, although Muse is amazing. Time Is Running Out was what was on Stephenie’s playlist – why did they have to go with Supermassive because it was newer? Sigh. Same with Leave Out All the Rest.
And the Paramore songs are luff. I Caught Myself especially. It makes me think of Bella towards Jake in New Moon, Eclipse..
214 – Ah. I feel your pain. Last year, only one person in my grade knew what “grunge” was.
“What’s Pearl Jam?”
Bleah..
247 – Ohoho, you have inspired me to write a long item on Fall Out Boy. I will in a second.
First, I would like to say that I LOVE Panic! At the Disco, and I used to like Panic At the Disco but I don’t really anymore. Still okay to listen to though.
Alright, in my next post then.
“Fall Out Boy – ‘Sell Outs’?”
Fall Out Boy gained success with their second album, From Under the Cork Tree, and the popular singles Sugar, We’re Goin’ Down and Dance, Dance. (Some believe Evening Out With Your Girlfriend was their first album, but I am quite sure it was an EP.) Their first album, Take This To Your Grave (a bit more on the pop-punk side than FUTCT), was a little popular, but nearly unheard of, and FOB hit the mainstream in ’05. They gained loving fans, and two years later, came out with the song This Ain’t a Scene, It’s An Arms Race.
“Sell outs!”
Oh, the cries then! Disgracing them, saying that they had changed their sound oh too much from what they were used to! May I ask: is that such a crime? Was not From Under the Cork Tree an ENTIRELY different album from Take This To Your Grave? And then there is that phrase – “sell out”. It seems to mean that, if you are a sell out, you do not do what you are doing for the music. You are just doing it to make money. What does just one song, two songs mean that? And they never, never even appeared to be only in it for the money. They’ve been in it for the music, and now they are there for the fans, as well. Now, they have released more songs, and more people notice that the sound is different, and again the cries of them “selling out” repeat. Every good band changes their sound, and I wonder, how does that mean that they are traitors and greedy?
I think I got a lot out. Ho-hum.
My writing style is strange.
But that’s what I think, anyway.
Does anyone know the name of the song that has the lyrics of this.
“You’ve already won me over,
In spite of me,
Don’t surprised to find
I’m head over feet
*insert more lyrics here*
It’s already happened
It’s all your fault!”
I heard it on the radio and I want to know the song. Please help!
251 – I think that’s an Alanis Morisette song. Hold on.. Yes, “Head Over Feet”, I think?
243- *sniffle* 2 of my favorite things, dissed heavily in one fell swoop.
244- I know! It’s such a beautiful piece. I have the sheet music on pre-order on Amazon.
253–I had two friends at school today fighting for my iPod in order to listen to it, had one of those friends try to get his English teacher to listen to it (she has the soundtrack, and is in love with Decode, btw), then had two friends more fake crying over how beautiful it was. It was great.
And, yeah, I definitely need to get my hands on the sheet music, too.
247–I love Fall Out Boy more than I love Panic, but they’re pretty good too. I dunno…once you reach fame, people are gonna call you a sell-out even if you weren’t.
I get where you’re coming from–I’ve loved Sara Bareilles since waaay before everyone was trying to pound the opening chords of Love Song on Every. Flipping. Piano. They. Could. Find. And it tickes me out that they won’t give us the songbook for Careful Confessions, ’cause I like that album better.
252- Thanks!
245: Van Canto. A capella metal, except for drums. They sing the guitar parts! They are epic amazing win.
All of you should look them up.
256- Yes! They are amazing.
254- I prefer Panic over Fallout Boy, but don’t gte me wrong, Fallout Boy rocks, too.
I’m doing this stupid song for band; I’m doing the piano part, but the keyboard is on cello setting. It’s so weird. It doesn’t even fit in the piece.
256–Wow, that’s cool. It’s interesting because the woman has such a classical voice, but it totally works with the rest of the group. I wonder how they got the idea for that kind of singing.
first chair trumpet!
emma beat my brother for first chair horns andy got third
the flutes are in an uproar because everybody hates their chair except tori, and even she thinks feds should be first. but feds had a bad audition, and the flutes are dumb and tell each other that they won’t challenge. which is a total lie but we’ll let them feel superior about it for a few days until their egos get the better of them
honestly, our flute section is exactly like what people say trumpets are supposed to be. except the trumpets are at least open about it. like, we admit we’re going to challenge each other. and we’re nicer to each other too
260- *does secret band geek handshake* I was originally second chair, then someone challenged me, they won, then I was third chair (so sue me; it was my first challenge). Then we had a scale test and I got nervous and messed up really badly and got bumped back a row. I challenged the girl in front of me (she’s in the first row), but it came out a tie. Then, the guy behind me challenged me, but thankfully, it was a tie too. So now, next week I’m challenging the girl again, and hopefully, I will win this one, so the guy behind me won’t challenge me. He’s really good. *gulp*
Our trumpets, alto saxes, and trombones are crappy. I don’t know about the french horn; she’s the only one. The woodwinds attract the least yells from Mr. Fish. Well, if you exclude Bagel; he got yelled at last week.
But what he got yelled at for was SO FUNNY! See, he found this Lego head that looked like Mr. Fish, and he put it in a Darth Vader suit. Then he impersonated a DV voice and said, “Luke, I am your father. Together we will rule the band room, for I am Darth Fish!” *cracks up thinking about it*
260, 261 – Fellow band geeks! Haha. We’re trying out for chairs second semester, I think, but we have a scales test on Wednesday.
260 – Good job!
My band director says were doing complete reauditions after the December concert. He mentioned that some of the Concert Band I (good freshman band) kids might be moved down to Concert Band II (bad freshman band). There are 10 trumpets, and the top 4 make CB I. I am 3rd chair, but the 4th chair is way better than me.
I playe dpiano in a resteraunt this morning. MissSwann came. It was fun!
Jeez, I’m having typing issues lately.
264 – That would be fun. My piano teacher wants me to come to one of his jam sessions and play Autumn Leaves. (He teaches jazz piano, as well as jazz on other instruments.) It’s in a Borders and he gets a professional band to come and play and then students will play with the band.
258–I guess they don’t have a cellist?
260, 261, 262–I’m also a band geek, just not hornline. I’m in percussion. I’m glad we don’t have chairs…
266-Wow, that’s really cool. How long have you been playing piano?
267- You guys are so lucky! Challenges are scary. Along with the fact Mr. Fish’s office is small and stuffy, can you say EXTREME PRESSURE???
269-this year we had our band director and our assistant director! (he just started this year). two people staring at you and scribbling=twice as scary. in one small office, with windows through which the rest of the band could watch if they so chose (which a couple of them did)
268 – A little over 8 years now. I’ve been playing jazz for about a year.
270- The scale test was in front of the whole band, and everyone had nothing to do but watch. *shudders*
(Since everyone’s talking about their positions) I’m in orchestra, (I play the cello) and *yay* I got first chair. I still remember when orchestra started at school. There’s this hilarious story.
Ok, so, there was this guy in my grade who carries around this walkie talkie when he goes to school so he can tell his mom he’s there (he’s also in orchestra). So one day, during practice in the morning, we just started playing ‘Mission Impossible’, and at that moment, the guy walked in with his walkie-talkie and told his mom “I’m in.”
We called him Bond after that. Though some kids called him ‘Ethan Hunt’.
273- *cracks up* Note: Pear’s a flirt. Okay, so one day in band, Mr. Fish saw Pear writing on the hand of the boy next to her. He said, “Pear, stop writing on Soy’s hand! I don’t CARE if it’s your phone number!” *cracks up again*
264- Yeas and it was vair cool!
274- I took a picture of this dude in my class last year, and if you zoom in on his hand, it says clearly “Heya Jon-boy, my studman! Call me, hotcakes!” Then her number. My friend called her shamelessly, calling her ‘hotcakes’ and ‘jon-boy’. It was very funny.
Remember that scales test I mentioned in 262? Well, it turns out I need to play a two-ish octave chromatic scalle at 100bpm. I can’t play it at 100bpm. I can barely play it at 90.
Does anybody here have an ocarina? Yes, they do actually sell them. Google “Songbird ocarina” and you’ll probably find it. They look cool, and I’ve heard some of them play – very nice. If I get one for my birthday, maybe I’ll play it at the winter party.
269–Well, if it makes you feel any better, we still have to do scale tests on the mallet instruments. Everytime the rest of your section/the entire band is watching. Eeep.
We don’t often get to pick what we play in percussion; the same people tend to go on all the same instruments (we have auxillary, then we have mallets). Which gets frustrating if you know you worked your butt off on a run on the marimba, and some other person just has to do two or three cymbal rolls per song. *rolls eyes* Not that I’m bitter. :p
277–I just looked it up…looks cool. Have you ever heard of/heard a karimba?
278 – A what
E-flat major scale. My fingers DO NOT LIKE the E-Flat major scale. o.O
WHO IS CLIFF EAGLE?
[Hello, Eli. I snipped the rest of your name because of our policy (quoted from THE RULES): If you are in high school or younger, don’t sign your last name. Use a pseudonym (false name) or your first name (plus last initial, if you like).
On the other hand, if you are an adult, let us know. In that case, we’d want to include your full name.
Two of my favorite artists are ones that people either think are awesome, or hate their guts. And those two awesome MCs are……….MC Lars and mc chris. For the latter, sometimes I stop and wonder why I’m listening to a song about Reese’s, but then I get over that. As for MC Lars, I think my favorite song of his is Roommate from Hell. The mc chris part.
Boy you need a b*slap
Not my fault we’re mismatched
You geek out over Beakman’s World
I dig on World of Witchcraft…
I love that guy.
Aah, I love that guy.
Why did I type that twice? Oh, well.
281- That would only be the pwnsomest Musebloger of all time. Just kidding.
281–Eli–are you a ‘phyte? If so, I might suggest visiting the Welcome Neophytes page (accessible from the home page), as well as the rules (which our dear GAPA Rosanne kindly posted in 281). And if you are a ‘phyte, then welcome to the blog! We (most of us, anyway) always enjoy having some fresh blood….. *laughs maniacally*
280 – My fingers do not like Bb major or E major. (Not concert, saxophone specific.) X_X
284–Bit conceited, are we? just kidding.
277-i have two ocarina love!
286-saxes are in Bb, right? or at least tenors are…
my fingers love almost every scale. because i only have to use three of them (or if it’s concert F, two of them! and if it’s my F, which is concert Eb, almost one of them! (stupid A))
286 – Yes, tenors are Bb, but I play alto, and that’s Eb. What instrument do you play, again?
I find Bb, F, and A easy. Stoopid pressure; made me mess up on F… *mutter*
I once had thissong where about half of the clarinet part was A, A, A, A, A, etc.? Ugh.
Mr. Fish hates our brass… I (and about everyone else) find bad trumpets HILARIOUS!
Am I the only Bb clarinet on this blog???
Do you think we should have a Band/Orchestra thread?
288 – Aren’t they awesomeness? I particularly like Epona’s Song, Zelda’s Lullaby, the Song of Storms, the Song of Time, and Saria’s song.
The band at my school is doing Green Day and My Chemical Romance. I love my former band teacher.
Yeah, I really don’t regret quitting, but this year would have been a lot better than last.
Listening to right now: All Around Me by Flyleaf. I don’t really know them that well, but I’ve heard All Around Me on the radio multiple times, and it’s not bad.
Suggestion: Mercy Mercedes. I like the guy’s voice, especially in the song “The Perfect Scene”.
292- Flyleaf annoys me but I listen to them occasionally anyway.
I’m going through a Muse phase. Absolution is amazing.
293-I’m going through a Muse phase, too. Black Holes and Revelations is an amazing album.
The should use “Beauty of Uncertainty” in a Twilight movie. KT Tunstall. ROCKS.
292- ARE YOU SERIOUS????? Damn you, Beavo! We’re doing all hymns. HYMNS!!!! Damn religious school…
293/4- Hey, me too! Love that album… I’m surprised it hasn’t broken, what with me listening to it on average 2 hours a day…
292 – No fairrr.
294 – That’s the one I have..amazing.
I officially love the Smashing Pumpkins. I only know a few songs, but The Beginning is the End is the Beginning just blew me away..
The bad thing about Muse is that it’s addictave, so you listen to it so much it gets old easily.
Sorry for the two poster.
I bought my first rap song since, like, summer of 07.
In The Ayer is sooo catchy!
It looks so weird, though, because the song before it is Get It Up by MSI and the song after it is Join Me In Death by HIM. Kind of a strange combination: Synth Punk next to Hip Hop next to Gothic Metal….
Do all of yourselves a favor. Go to Youtube and search “Dennis Havlena”. He makes his own musical instruments out of random crap and they SOUND AWESOME.
Ahh triple post!!!
You know what else is catcy? Lifestyles of the Rich and the Famous by Good Charlotte. I agree that they’re ready made for the radio pop plus guitars with no talent, but it’s just catchy!
Yeah, my catchy song taste sucks.
I’M GOING TO SEE FALL OUT BOY! IN CONCERT! WITH BACKSTAGE PASSES! *faints* *wakes back up*
Sorry. I’m terribly excited. PLUS my friend migt be taking me to Katy Perry! This is too good to be true! *faints again*
300- I’ve seen that guy. The propane tank hank drum is woah.
There’s another guy who makes Ocarinas out of random items of food. Lets see, there’s broccoli, an Ostrich egg, a carrot, an apple, a pumpkin, and watermelon. There’s also a butterbur oboe, a radish slide whistle, a carrot pan flute, a cabbage slide flute, ect.
Woahness. You can even find out how to make your own Ocarina out of a carrot.
That dude’s kinda odd.
I have a ocarina. It’s called Muse XD. But of course the ancient one. My mom bought me the cheapest she could find first (an Alto Celtic) and then finally when I got better she got me another.
It’s pretty awesome.
You know that “Hello Goodbye” song that Target has as their theme song? I thought it was a pretty lame pun, so I didn’t really like the song much.
Well, today I found out it was written by the Beatles.
And that changed everything, because man, if it’s by the Beatles, it’s GOTTA be awesome.
292-yeah…but we’re doing copland XD
304: The original version was my favorite, and I went around singing it. Then I couldn’t sing it, for people kept commenting, “Hey, you’re singing the Target song!” Grr…
290 – Oooh! We had that piece back in 6th grade! It was, um, The Tempest, right?
We definitely need a band/orchestra thread.
301- Yeah, that’s a good song. And it’s so true… I used to be absolutely obsessed with GC, but now I’ve kind of cooled off about them…
302- AH, I HATE YOU!
304- This is the problem with ads ripping off beatles songs! People always think ‘Oh, the Beatles are doing that song from the Target ads!” And I’m like AHHHHHH NOOOO I KEEEEEELL YOU ADVERTISING COMPANIES!!!!!!!
You say yes, I say no
You say stop and I say go, go, go
Oh, no
You say goodbye and I say hello
Hello, hello
I don’t know why you say goodbye
I say hello
Hello, hello
I don’t know why you say goodbye
I say hello
I say high, you say low
You say why, and I say I don’t know
Oh, no
You say goodbye and I say hello
Hello, hello
I don’t know why you say goodbye
I say hello
Hello, hello
I don’t know why you say goodbye
I say hello
Why, why, why, why, why, why
Do you say good bye
Goodbye, bye, bye, bye, bye
Oh, no
You say goodbye and I say hello
Hello, hello
I don’t know why you say goodbye
I say hello
Hello, hello
I don’t know why you say goodbye
I say hello
hello, hello
I don’t know why you say goodbye I say hello
Hello
Hela, heba helloa
Hela, heba helloa
BEST. BEATLES. SONG. EVER (I am the Walrus is a close 2nd).
308 – Forget the advertising companies, I am going to one day sue Target for ripping off the Beatles. You can not rip off the Beatles and expect to get away with it.
302-That is so cool, even though I’m totally not a fan of FOB and I think Katy Perry is meh. But STILL.
I didn’t know that was written by the Beatles! *kills target*
Listening to: mOBSCENE, by Marilyn Manson.
I almost put this on a CD, but then I remembered the CD was for art class…
Stupid Target. Even if they have goodbuys, I will not say hello.
Meh.
Dog with a spot on his eye. What an idea.
I don’t know. I like Target! But I am annoyed by their use of that song. They have very good buys, for what it’s worth.
Music currently on my shuffle: Mountain Goats, Elliott Smith, Belle and Sebastian, Neutral Milk Hotel, Avett Brothers, The Decemberists.
312- I guess their prodsucts are OK. But I don’t enjoy how they mixed that song. It’s probably enfringing on copyright laws of some standard.
313 – No, I’m pretty sure it’s legal. If it were illegal, the ads would have been pulled off the air by now.
In Target’s defense — someone sold them the rights to use the song and got paid very well for it no doubt.
You should have heard the outrage when Nike used “Revolution” to sell sneakers back in the 1980s. That was viewed as nothing less than sacrilege by many. And they were already worked up over the fact that Michael Jackson outbid Paul McCartney for publishing rights to a sizable portion of the Beatles’ catalogue.
314, 315- But how do they get rights to the song if the band has broken up and two are dead? Wouldn’t there have to be full consent of the band for the rights?
I don’t know. Copyrights have always messed me up.
312- !!! Belle and Sebastian! I had forgotten… Oh, the memories.
Except that I only know for sure that I like on of their albums. I listened to a different one and it was Lame.
315- “Revolution” by who?
(316) Copyrights can be divided in many different ways and parts can be sold off separately. Publishing rights usually end up in the hands of companies or even several companies, rather than individuals. The Beatles case is rather complicated. Snopes has a detailed account of Michael Jackson’s involvement and provides some general information as well.
(318) “Revolution” was a Beatles Song that came out in 1968, a year when a lot of people thought revolution of one sort or other was happening in this country. For many who saw that might be a good thing, “Revolution” was an anthem. Therefore they found it especially painful for that particular song to be used for selling shoes.
You say you want a revolution
Well, you know
We all want to change the world
You tell me that it’s evolution
Well, you know
We all want to change the world
But when you talk about destruction
Don’t you know that you can count me out
Don’t you know it’s gonna be all right
all right, all right
You say you got a real solution
Well, you know
We’d all love to see the plan
You ask me for a contribution
Well, you know
We’re doing what we can
But when you want money
for people with minds that hate
All I can tell is brother you have to wait
Don’t you know it’s gonna be all right
You say you’ll change the constitution
Well, you know
We all want to change your head
You tell me it’s the institution
Well, you know
You better free you mind instead
But if you go carrying pictures of chairman Mao
You ain’t going to make it with anyone anyhow
Don’t you know it’s gonna be all right
315 – I don’t care, you should not be allowed to use a song from the band that is the king of a genre in a walmart/target/etc. ad. Especially if it’s a lame pun.
317 – Which albums?
315- It IS sacrelige!
Stupid Michael Jackson.
So, Spotlight is a good song. I forget the artist and I’m too lazy to check, but it’s a good song. Trust elmo.
323: My dear Bella (I forgot (and was too lazy) to say hi, so here it is- *pies*), for future reference, the Recent Comments Bar stops your post at the first period. Your post is a real whopper on it.
[You will be relieved to know the Recent Comments Gnome tended to that. –Admin.]
323-i mega-..<
my musical preferences are many and varied, so i won’t bother listing them. i’ve been listening to a lot of musicals lately though.
Beatles… Green Day… and Weird Al.
Oh, and of course, Harry Potter and Star Wars soundtracks XD
Okay, so my current theme song is ‘Rainbow Connection.’ It’s such a poetic, intresting, and unique song: I LOVES IT!
I have a few more songs to add:
*Songs:
• Absolutely
• How to Save a Life
• On the Plane
• A Thousand Miles (?)
• Mad Dogs and Englishmen
There. A lot of songs in the Songs catagory are songs I’ve heard on the radio and/or Pandora, like On the PLane, A Thousand Miles, Absolutely, and others. More will inevitably added. Now, I’m off to finish the A section. *scurries off*
279- Um, it’s an African instrument sometimes called a thumb piano. It sounds kinda like a mixture of a harp/vibraphone and bell kit when you play it…it’s small enough to hold in your hands. They sound beautiful.
302–Have fun! I envy you, though.
315–Ugh. John’s probably rolling in his grave.
So, today, we had our Christmas parade. Aaand drumline (including the, *ahem,* cymbalist) didn’t get to wear gloves. However, the other two percussionists, the banner, did get to wear gloves. It was something like twenty-six degrees out. For two miles. About three hours outside. I can still type tho, and play piano. Thank God. The movies afterward made up for it.
Anybody else have to suffer through parades recently?
I can’t wait to catch Macy’s on Thursday…find the marching bands.
328- Oooh, I had one of those once! Then my bookshelf broke, and a Harry Potter book fell on it… so I don’t have one anymore.
328: My sister’s going to shove my face into the TV to look at the marching bands. And speaking of marching bands, BHS’s is coming to PMS on Tues. to perform for us little band geeks. He.
325-that should say <3 the fratellis
328 – Sounds great.
328-we don’t have a christmas parade, fortunately. except this year we’re going to disney, but the parade is fairly short.
parades can be fun or not, depending. our parades usually get rained on, and recently johnson has stopped us from running around within the lines and switching places with people to talk. walking backwards is still an option, if you remain in step and if he’s not looking. other than that, not much fun. also there is dramaz about who gets to be in the first line. (i’m usually second line, so i get to witness the theatrics)
Our school’s band had to do a parade for the homecoming at the High School, which was funny, because I got to sit in the bleachers and laugh at all my old band friends looking stupid on the field.
Our band SUCKS, even if they are playing Green Day and My Chemical Romance.
I put Being For The Benifit of Mr. Kite on the CD I burned for art class.
